PRESENTATION
Rapid Discussions
on
Any Topic
by
Anyone & Everyone
Instead of having a formal presentation, we will get together and
discuss anything anyone wants to discuss in brief sessions of no
more than a few minutes each. If we have enough people involved
we can break into smaller groups to handle each topic.

PRESENTATION
What is Linux Fund?
by
Randal L. Schwartz and David Mandel
A discussion of the administrative side of running an Open Source organization - legal standing, non-profit status, taxes and fees, accepting donations, international issues, etc.
We will also discuss ways Open Source "Foundations"like Linux Fund, Apache Software Foundation, The Software Conservancy, The Free Software Foundation, The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, and others are helping particular projects minimize the overhead of running their own non-profit.
A lot of the discussion will center on Linux Fund since both presenters are from Linux Fund and ways to become involved with Linux Fund. |

A Talk by
Jeri Ellsworth
(Circuit Girl)
Jeri Ellsworth is a native Oregonian, born in Yamhill and raised in Dallas, Oregon. Early on she became fascinated with electronics and 8-bit computers setting the stage for her unique approach to learning. Not being challenged in school, she skipped higher education to pursue a career in car-racing and chassis fabrication. After that, she opened a chain of computer stores in Oregon and Washington. She sold those to persue a career in chip design, which lead her to design the CommodoreOne - based upon the Commodore 64 - using reconfigurable logic and the C64 DTV 30-games-in-one joystick, selling, a quarter million units. She currently works as an Oregon based consultant.
I'm not sure what Jeri is going to speak about yet, but judging from the talk she gave at Stanford, it should be very good indeed.
See a video of her Stanford talk at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1053309060448851979#

Springboard Social Innovation Forum
Roll back
description |
At the March Springboard Social Innovation weâll be addressing innovative physical spaces. By creating an active idea laboratory, shared workspace, specifically designed educational programs, appropriate tools, and needed expertise, we can cultivate innovative technology- and service-based solutions to shared problems using newly collaborative, enriched strategies that can be replicated in diverse settings globally.
Together MotiveSpace Coalition and Springboard Innovation are creating HATCH, a physical space that will serve as an active laboratory and incubator for community innovation and will foster an entirely new operating system between individuals, organizations, community, tools, and place. The space will offer classrooms, tools, programs, and experts who will work together to solve local and global problems. Tenants of all sectors will work in close proximity in a shared work space that fosters collaboration, community, and participation to generate social and ecological solutions.
Join us for a âworking Forum,â where weâll discuss HATCH and the potential role a physical space can play in solving social and environmental problems. **SPACE IS LIMITED, PLEASE RSVP** Please contact Mary Grace at (503) 452-6898 or [email protected] for more information about this event and to RSVP.
The Springboard Social Innovation Forum offers a monthly event designed to support those interested in creating a better future. Our focus is to help practitioners or potential practitioners of social projects push beyond discussion and debate into action. Each Forum will inspire and teach with ideas, powerful role models, and stories. Speakers, content experts, panels, and workshops will help you improve your strategies for planning and launching effective social ventures. The Forum will create a context to connect, learn, and take action around ideas that lead to tangible changeâall in a venue designed for building community.
The Forum is intended to attract people with a wide range of experience and backgrounds, but with a common interestâmaking a difference. If you are getting tired of waiting for someone else to step up to take on issues you care about, come see how this can be a place to make a difference, here or around the world. We invite people from both the business and non-profit communityâinvestors and activistsâto join in, work together, and make this a model for other cities to adopt.
Learn more about the Forum at www.springboardinnovation.org/forum.php
About Springboard Innovation:
Springboard Innovation (www.springboardinnovation.org) is a not-for-profit headquartered in Portland, Oregon. Through a process of âinnovation incubationâ we help community members launch social change organizations and programs. We invite you to be involved in our newest initiative for change.

EPISODE #2!
Get up early and work on your side projects with some like-minded geeks!
TechCoffee is part running club, part knitting bee, and part hackathon. It's hard to work on all of your amazing ideas after a long workday, so instead we get up early. And we get together, so we have the reinforcement of other people up early, too. A couple hours a week can make a big difference.
So bring your laptops and your work ethic to the inaugural PDX TechCoffee. One commit a week is all we ask. |

About The Social Innovation Forum

On commit a week is all we ask. |

Go Portland Tech

Go Portland Tech is a chance for everyone involved in Portland technology to come try their hand at Go, a game that is loved by geeks the world over.
Go is both thousands of years old, simple to learn, and poses interesting computer science problems (a computer player has yet to beat the best humans, and amateurs can still beat the bots too).
Regular Portland Go club meetups are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays (see: OregonGo.org) but this is a chance for tech folks that are seasoned players or absolute beginners to get together and share a game. No experience is necessary to attend. |
