Come hang out, drink beer, and write code every Monday night.
The meetings are extremely informal, and everyone is welcome!
Maybe we'll be in the middle room, maybe in the back room, just keep walking until you see a table full of laptops.

Holiday Party! Introducing Maasive Cloud Services for Mobile
Roll back
| description |

→ |
ELC Technologies would like to invite you and a guest to a holiday party celebrating the upcoming launch of our cloud service solution, Maasive. Join us for FREE beer, FREE pizza, live demos on mobile programming with Maasive, and the chance to take home a hoodie at the end of the night!
Maasive is a mobile development platform unlike any other. We've developed an easy way for you to add cloud functionality to your iOS, Android and Windows Phone applications, including native object storage, push alerts, analytics and other services. Compared to other frameworks Maasive is easy to use and more flexible even across multiple platforms. And it's backed by ELC's unique history developing robust, scalable cloud based mobile apps for Fortune 500 companies.
Maasive is free during the beta period, and we're looking for YOUR feedback to help us make it even more reliable and easy to use. Come chat with us during the party and we'll set you up with your own account and show you how to integrate Maasive in your application. In the meantime, if you want to see how easy it is to get started check out this three minute screencast: http://vimeo.com/28125533
The party starts at 6pm December 14th, at Lucky Lab Brew Pub on 1945 NW Quimby Street. Hope to see you there!
P.S.- If anyone is interested in trying Maasive but can't attend, just send an email to [email protected] and I'll make sure you're set up with a user account and the SDK. |

Portland Perl Mongers – Pegex: Perl 6 Grammar Everywhere.
Roll back
| description |

speaker: Ingy döt Net - http://ingy.net/
Acmeism (http://acmeism.org) is the ability to think about and express one's creative ideas, beyond language borders. In programming, this means creating things that benefit multiple languages and communities. Perl is effectively one great community with 2 great languages (Perl 5 and Perl 6). Acmeism is essential to mongers, but kindly extends to pythonistas, brigadiers and nodelings as well.
Pegex is an Acmeist parsing language. Think of it as Perl 6 Rules and Regexp::Grammars for all programmers. Write One Grammar, Parse Everywhere. This makes Pegex the quintessential tool in the Acmeist's belt. Pegex.pm is fully functional in Perl 5, and working it's way across the Acmeist landscape. Come see Ingy döt Net (an inventor of YAML and the father of Acmeism) talk about Pegex and the exciting future of Acmeism.
As usual, the meeting will be followed by social hour at the Lucky Lab. |

Ben Houston: The Importance of Hackathons
Roll back
| description |
Difficulty iterating? Stuck in a rut at work? Throw caution to the wind and host a hackathon! You can finally play with Shiny Thing 2.0, show it off to your friends and teammates, all in a format that will encourage you to work in small, iterative slices.
Growing in popularity in recent years, hackathons provide a venue for folks to get together, explore new ideas and (hopefully!) build working software in the span of a couple of days. Come learn about their use in the corporate space and the public space at large, how to sponsor one, and how to make the event create lasting effects. We'll also explore the parallels between agile development and hackathons, and how each is good practice for the other.
This event is free and is at Puppet Labs. It begins at 6:30 pm with pizza, sponsored by PNSQC (Many thanks to both Puppet Labs and PNSQC for supporting agile in Portland).
The program starts at 7:00 pm.
After the program you're invited to join us for a no-host gathering at a nearby brewpub for further discussion of chicken wings and other agile conundrums.

Ben Houston is a pragmatic software engineer who is currently in love with mazes and geometry.

(Unconference) Evolving Virtual Teams
Roll back
| description |
Generally acknowledged best practices for software development strongly favor co-location, but with mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing, and off-shoring the co-located team is becoming an endangered species. Teams now are commonly project-based and geographically distributed. How can we work effectively with team members in different physical locations?
Learn from key open source leaders that with the help of virtual teams produce some of the highest quality, most widely used software today. Come prepared to speak your mind, share your experience, listen and learn about working in a virtual team. If you are involved anywhere in the software development lifecycle, this event is for you.
<b>What is an Unconference?</b>
An Unconference is the inverse of a conference, in that thereâs no predetermined, pre-set schedule, agenda, or speaker lineup. Utilizing the concept of OpenSpace, this unconference is the coming together of participants, with no predetermined agenda or program, to have an open discussion and share insight in a place where experts and beginners are equal. You won't be lectured at, rather you'll leave with a better understanding of a topic and the satisfaction of being heard outside Q&A time.
The OpenSpace methodology is carefully designed to elicit maximum involvement and creativity in a constructive atmosphere. It is also highly flexible so that the content is entirely determined by you -- the participants. This is not to suggest that the conference will not have content or outcomes, for there certainly will be both. Achievement in the meeting will be totally dependent upon individual and collective responsibility to make it happen. The content is what each person shares, and the outcome is what we will all create. The event will be inventive, creative, productive and full of surprises.
<b>Capacity:</b> 160 attendees
<b>Audience:</b> From executives whom are concerned with productivity, quality and cost management to product owners, analysts, developers, designers, and testers all who are attempting to share a single thought and build upon it.
