create Calagator::Event 1250463403 Cleanweb PDX Meetup: Monthly Hack, Eat & Drink Roll back

description nil At this monthly meeting, we get together, talk about app ideas for one or two industry (such as sporting apparel, commercial building, food, water, etc). These are the local industry that can use some help to identify solutions to reduce carbon footprint and lessen any negative environmental impact to local residents. Our goal is to brainstorm innovative ideas utilizing information technology by leveraging the mobile and social web. Of course, creative juice often comes after a glass of nice brew. That's how drink is involved in this. If you not a drinker, the Pub serves good food of you to hack & eat. We are not really building an app at the meeting (but if you would like to crank out an app in 90 mins, that would be awesome too). And what are we doing with these ideas? You'll have to come to find out. For those who won't be able to make it in person you can join via G+ Hangout. Please let me know in advance. Thanks and hope to see you on the 15th!

create Calagator::Event 1250463402 The PSU ACM presents Git For Ages 4 And Up by Michael Schwern Roll back

description nil Bio: Michael G Schwern is the author of Test::More (the Perl testing system) and Gitpan, 21,000 repositories on Github representing every release of every Perl module on CPAN. Schwern does not push to master, master pushes to Schwern. Synopsis: Tinker Toys are the best illustration of a Git repository I’ve found. Side-by-side with issuing Git commands, we’ll build a Git repository out of kid’s toys to show what’s going on behind the scenes. Mind bending concepts like remote branches, rebase and the staging area become child’s play. Basic knowledge of git commands is expected of the audience (init, add, commit, diff, log, push, pull). If you’ve started using git, but are uncomfortable with it and don’t really get it, this is for you. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD – Small Parts. Not For Children Under 4 Years.

description nil Estimating stories, sprint commitments, and releases--estimating in general--remains a real bugaboo for all teams. Agile teams have different approaches to estimating. What's worked best for your team? Has your team come to consider estimating "waste?" How do you make that work in your environment? What's your rationale and how does it test out in practice? Come share your techniques, tactics, strategies, and war stories with colleagues over lunch. Same bat time, same bat station. See you there. And, hey, we're about to bust our seams again. If you ping [email protected] or the AgilePDX list that you're coming, it can help us help the restaurant to provide fast service and the best possible layout for the tables. create Calagator::Event 1250463392 Intro to Wikipedia, and open edit-a-thon Roll back

description nil In the first hour, Pete Forsyth will give a presentation and Q&A about Wikipedia: what is it, how did it come to be, how does it work? And, what's with Oregon's special kinship with Wikipedia and all things wiki? After the first hour will be an open "edit-a-thon" - you can pair up with experienced Wikipedians to improve any Wikipedia article you like. Some suggestions: Portland's food scene, stuff that "keeps Portland weird", Portland area businesses and startups. Or even zombies. If you have reference materials, bring them along! Event sponsors: Wiki Strategies and Prichard Communications. Do bring a laptop, if you possibly can! If you don't have one, that's OK -- we may have a few loaners on hand, or you can just work with somebody else who has one. See here for more details -- and feel free to edit this page with your ideas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/February_2013 (You can sign up either on Meetup.com or on this Wikipedia page).

update Calagator::Event 1250463388 IxDA Portland: Wearable Technology Roll back

description <strong>Sit up Straight! - How Wearable Technology can Support Healthy Living</strong> Have you ever wanted to send a hug from far away, automatically track your daily activity, or have your clothing correct your posture? What if your insulin delivery went from being a plastic shot in your pocket to a beautiful ring on your finger? How ubiquitous can pervasive technology really be? We will look at the rapidly changing future of wearable technology where health and wellness companies are early adopters. Wearable technology syncs with daily life so that we don’t simply think about our health when something hurts, but rather utilize the ever present technology to get and stay healthy. Notoriously unattractive medical devices are being slowly re-engineered into desirable artifacts to carry with pride. Janna will bring a working prototype and samples to interact with and discuss. With 20 years of experience in apparel and health related design, as well as 10 years working in technology, Janna brings a unique perspective of how these two seemingly disparate materials can continue to merge to create the ultimate user experience. <strong>About Our Guest Speaker</strong> Currently the Senior User Experience Researcher (say that 10 times fast) at Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, Janna C. Kimel has been practicing design and design research since 1991. In the 1990’s Janna could be found in theatrical costume shops and running a business making adaptive apparel for people with special needs. With the turn of the century she became fascinated with technology and how it could be combined with her favorite material, textiles. Janna has woven together a career stitching seemingly disparate disciplines together. As the principal of a small consultancy, third brain studio, llc, she had the opportunity to partner with innovative agencies such as Ziba, IDEO, Lunar, and health care companies including EnteroMedics, Providence, and our very own Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. In addition, Janna spent several years working with Intel’s Digital Health Group where she was part of the team who brought you the Intel Health Guide 6000. She has published and presented on motivation, behavior change, user research and wearable technology. She is a ramblin’ wreck with a master’s degree in industrial design from Georgia Tech. <strong>Sit up Straight! - How Wearable Technology can Support Healthy Living</strong> Have you ever wanted to send a hug from far away, automatically track your daily activity, or have your clothing correct your posture? update Calagator::Event 1250463367 Technology Association of Oregon Marketing Forum: Hey, What's the Big Data? Roll back

description Hey, What’s the Big Data? How business intelligence is determining design, development, and marketing decisions It’s time to say goodbye to old school analytics, and hello to big data. Big data involves huge data sets, coming in at different speeds, from all directions. Everyday, we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data online. All that data (a quintillion has 30 zeros) comes from social media, digital pictures, purchase transactions, and elsewhere on the web. This kind of data sinks traditional database systems. To analyze the data, we need fancier systems. That’s why IBM Watson won Jeopardy, but Siri continues to drive us crazy with her analytical shortcomings. Predictive analytics can figure out how to land on Mars, but it cannot predict who will buy a Mars bar. What gives? Luckily, marketing automation tools from companies like Eloqua and Marketo are changing the game. Join us for a dive into the sea of data. This panel examines how understanding and working with data will optimize business actions in real time. You will: •Learn how humanizing data will help maintain a competitive advantage •Find out why big data isn’t just for big companies •Hear case studies of companies who are successfully interpreting data to predict the needs of their customers, increase purchases and save money •Listen to thought leaders and get ahead of the big data wave Panelists Include: •Hillary Ervin, Marketing at Tripwire, Inc. •David Steinberg, CEO at The Steinberg Group •Bob Newell, Director at Information Builders (In from New York) •Mike Smitheman, VP of Marketing at GoodData (In from San Francisco) Event Details: When: Thursday, February 7, 2013 Where: CrowdCompass Office (in the Ford Building), 2505 SE 11th Ave., #300, Portlan, OR Time: 6:00 - 9:00 PM Cost: $5.00 Members and Nonmembers Register: TAO - 503-624-5452 Series Sponsor: Adobe Systems CrowdCompass/CVENT Hey, What’s the Big Data?
