A One Day Immersion in Improvisation for fun, self knowledge
and self confidence
Play with Collaboration~Creativity~Flexibiltiy
This is an opportunity to embody and engage with the qualities of
flexibility, collaboration and creativity.
Supported by the warmth of personal story and the guidance that
Playback Theatre provides, we will navigate and learn from four
agreements of Improvisation. (âEverythingâs An Offerâ-Robert Poynton)
LET GO! Of having to be right, of trying to be clever, of prejudgments,
BE AFFECTED!
NOTICE MORE! Lean into your senses, commit, BE PRESENT!
USE EVERYTHING! Connect ideas, accept offers, say and do obvious
things. YES AND!
MAKE YOUR PARTNER LOOK GOOD! Take care of each other. BE
GENEROUS!
Cat Gilliam is warm and playful; she is a force of inspiration. As an improvisationalist, she makes everything an offer, models letting go and gently takes us to our edge and beyond. Sheâs been a social artist-activist with Playback Theatre since 1992; since 2003, she is pioneering an integration of NVC into Playback practices. She falls in love with everyone and your next!

Easy and Inexpensive Screencasting
Screencasting can help you clearly explain concepts to your clients as well as give you instant credibility. But, screencasting programs can be expensive and complex. However, all of us do not always need to create professional quality videos. Sometimes we just need to quickly and clearly convey some information and video is the best way to do so.
Rich will present a guide to inexpensive tools for screencasting which make the process pretty easy and will enable you to create clear instructive videos in little time and at low cost.
Some topics he'll cover are:
Why Video?
What hardware is needed?
Capturing video and capturing images
Sharing with Jing and sharing with Snagit
When is Jing better?
When is Snagit better?
Going beyond the simple tools
Presented by
Rich Wersinger founded RJW Consulting in 1998, and formed as RJW Consulting, LLC in July 2010. In 2007, Rich expanded his services to include screencast videos.
Rich has been helping professionals expand their horizons and realize potential they never thought possible since he was a scout in his teens. His first professional assignment in 1982-1984 was training Royal Saudi Naval Forces officers how to manage the day-to-day activities aboard their small naval vessels. Since then, he has discovered the challenges and successes helping professionals use software applications effectively

Presents:
Murky Waters: Where Do Tests Come From?
A discussion about requirements, and other
sources for the development of test cases
Moderated by:
Mary Torres
Lead QA Engineer,
Viewpoint Construction Software, Portland, OR
at
Con-Way
2055 NW Savier, Portland, OR 97209
on
Wednesday April 17, 2013
5:30pm until 7:30pm
Where do tests come from? Pittsburg. No not really. Actually, we hope to discuss the various sources for tests in the different SDLC environments. We want everyone to share good practices for gleaning information needed for testing, including; rummaging through requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, code commentary, etc. Do your Product Managers write up test cases, DEV’s? Business Analysts? Tech facilitators? Remember Use Cases? Much of what we used to do, has become muddled and wrapped up in terminology and processes that no longer mean the same things they used to. Let’s talk it through and see if we can help each other in this murky water.
Mary Torres; our moderator for this event currently works at Viewpoint Construction Software as Lead QA Engineer. She a degree in Computer Science, has almost 17 years working in the software industry, and has worked in QA for that entire time. Her work experience includes QA management, automated testing, and functional testing. She is also a certified scrum master. Mary has worked on projects that have utilized traditional Waterfall and Agile/Scrum SDLC’s.
Event is FREE and Open to the Public
Agenda:
5:30-6:00PM: Pizza, Networking and SQAUG Announcements
6:00-7:30PM: Scheduled Moderator: Mary Torres
Details:
• Event is Free to the public

Networking @ 5:30-6:30 PM; Seminar 6:30-7:30 PM
Abstract:
Automated testing in a hot topic right now in the QA space. But how do you get started in it? One step at a time. This talk is aimed at the beginner and hopes to provide some background in how to start to learn how to automate stuff. Stuff that can make your day to day job easier. Even if you think you don’t have any automation experience, you probably actually have something that you can build on. I’ll give you one path as a guide, but ultimately it will be up to you to complete the journey.

Rose City SPIN: Agile Industry Speaker Panel on "Escaping Velocity"
Roll back
| description |
Networking at 5:30 PM, talk begins at 6:00 PM.
In partnership with the Intel Agile & Lean Conference and the Pacific Northwest Quality Conference, Rose City SPIN is proud to present this park bench discussion on âEscaping Velocity.â
Has Agile crossed the chasm and if so, whatâs next? What will the industry look like in the next five years? This will be an open discussion with the speakers and audience about where we are and where weâre going in product development. Bring your burning questions about Agile as the audience will be able to ask questions during the park bench session. This is your opportunity to generate discussion about Agile topics with some of the top minds in the industry!
Speakers:
James Grenning trains, coaches and consults worldwide. James professional roots are in embedded software. His mission is to bring modern technical and management practices to embedded development teams. He is the author of Test-Driven Development for Embedded C. He is a co-author of CppUTest, a popular unit test harness for embedded C and C++. He invented Planning Poker, an estimating technique used around the world, and participated in the creation of the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. His business website is http://renaissancesoftware.net.
David âThe Dudeâ Hussman teaches and coaches agility in companies of all sizes all over the world. For more than 10 years, David has evolved the successful adoption of agile methods in medical, retail, legal, education, health care, control systems, digital audio, financial and more. Sometimes he is pairing with developers and testers, while other times he is helping product manager create product roadmaps. David believes in helping companies design processes that help them instead of simply teaching them to follow a process. In addition to working side by side with design and delivery teams, David works with leader and executives to promote the use of agile methods to attack the real challenges of their specific industry. In 2009, David received the Gordon Pask Award from the Agile Alliance. Davidâs company called DevJam provides coaching, coursework, development staff and product development. DevJam has seasoned mentors and builders who pragmatically match technology, people, and processes to create better products in more competitive cycles.
Diana Larsen is a founder of FutureWorks Consulting, LLC, Diana Larsen partners with clients in the software industry to create, guide, and fortify resilient workplaces and improve project performance. In addition to consulting with and coaching leaders and teams on adopting Agile work systems, she leads team, project, and whole system processes for collaborative learning, thinking and planning. Diana co-authored Agile Retrospectives: Making Good Teams Great! and Liftoff: Launching Agile Teams and Projects. She serves on the boards of directors of the Agile Alliance and the Agile Open Northwest non-profit, and is an associate of the Human Systems Dynamics Institute.

CHIFOO Presents: The Emotion Commotion: 2013 Redux
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
This talk revisits a framework for thinking about design and emotion introduced in 2007. A little over half a decade later, design has advanced to being one of the key differentiators in the business arena—namely for its power to forge strong emotional bonds. In other words, design helps experiences kick ass. How does one measure such a seemingly unquantifiable trait? This talk addresses this question with the second chapter of our story.
The competitive environment for technology is changing, and its impact on experience design is deep: capabilities, features, and functions are no longer enough. Emotional engagement will distinguish successful consumer experiences of the future. Designing in this world requires us to change the way we think about people and products. This presentation provides a brief overview of a counter-intuitive emotional design approach and its application to one of the hallmarks of the next phase in interaction design: Natural User Interface.
About the Speaker
August de los Reyes (@augustdlr) is a designer. He lives in Silicon Valley and works for Samsung. Previously with Microsoft, his teams helped design Windows 8, Surface, and the design language formerly known as Metro. He is a graduate of Harvard and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. |

I am trying to figure out how you guys are preventing spam.
When done I intend to delete this post. I also "scheduled" this six months out so it shouldn't show up in near future listings.
A quick search on google indicates it may involve some upgrade/modification in Rails...?
Step 1) Throwing in some bad keywords:
Via-gra hard-core pus-sy sluds
(the original terms were red-flagged in preview -- so I added the hyphens above, plus t ->d spello in sluds)
Step 2) If Step 1 allows me to post this I may add a nasty URL found in my spam folder.
After successfully posting step 1) I am now adding a casino URL (the original URL in my email spam went through some sort of tiny URL redirect http://lnkd.in/quc3PP )

Galois Tech Talk: Introducing HERMIT: A Plugin for Transforming GHC Core Language Programs
Roll back
| description |

Presented by Andrew Farmer.
The importance of reasoning about and refactoring programs is a central tenet of functional programming. Yet our compilers and development toolchains only provide rudimentary support for these tasks, leaving the programmer to do them by hand. This talk introduces HERMIT, a toolkit enabling informal but systematic transformation of Haskell programs from inside the Glasgow Haskell Compiler's optimization pipeline. With HERMIT, users can experiment with optimizations and equational reasoning, while the tedious heavy lifting of performing the actual transformations is done for them. The talk will explore design choices in HERMIT, demonstrate its use on examples, and seek input for further development and case studies. |

Everyone who's interested in learning about, using, or creating new technologies for self-tracking is invited to join us at our **Quantified Self Show-and-Tell Meetup at the Nike+ Accelerator** (1714 NW Overton St) at 6 pm on Wednesday April 17.
QS Show-and-Tell Meetups feature first-person, personal experiments and experiences in self-tracking, as well as plenty of time for informal conversation and networking. Besides our QS community, we're inviting the startup founders at the Nike+/TechStars Accelerator to join the mix and share their personal stories too. Let me know if you're willing to be one of the presenters. We'll have an agenda up soon.
With two events this month -- the QS Co-Laboratory on April 9, and the QS Show-and-Tell on April 17 -- you can really top up your idea tank with exciting technology developments and interesting personal connections. See you there!
