Alternative to PDX Weekly Hackathon.
Come hang out and write code in a quieter, less crowded environment with your fellow nerds.
The meetings are extremely informal, and everyone is welcome!
The place is smaller, so finding the nerd herd shouldn't be too difficult. |

International NodeBots Day 2013--PDX
Roll back
| description |
This is not a hackathon. There will be no prizes other than the satisfaction of making something awesome! There will be very little in the way of talks. We're going to get together, collaborate and hack. This is more NodeConf SummerCamp than NodeConf. Sharing. Enjoying each other's company. Learning and exploring. And JavaScript. Lots of JavaScript.
We want to show that node is an all-purpose, fun tool by showing its potential with hardware. How? By bringing together those interested in node and hardware hacking, and giving them an open space to hack, collaborate, learn, and share their results with others.
What Cool Stuff can I do?
Checkout the Johnny-Five examples for some examples of cool stuff to do with Node and Arduino.
For more info on NodeBots and preparing yourself for the ensuing awesomeness: http://nodebots.io/

ChickTech Mid-Summer Picnic
Roll back
| description |
Join ChickTech at our annual Mid-Summer Picnic! Meet and mingle with HS participants, ChickTech volunteers, and women and men excited about getting more girls and women into tech. Families (including children) are welcome. Please make sure each person is counted in your registration so we have an accurate count!
We'll also have two fun activities! The first will be a soldering station, where anyone can learn to solder (or teach others to solder!). Soldering is a fun and useful skill, and you will love it! The second will be an activity creating a simple e-textile project (using fabric or felt to create an item that uses a small battery, sensors, and lights/sounds to react to the sensors--here are some more complex examples: http://makezine.com/2010/04/06/geek-chic-massive-e-textiles-roundu/). This is going to be a really fun event! We're excited, and we hope you'll join us to celebrate a summer that is starting any day now, tasty food, and of course women in tech. :)
This is a free event, but please feel free to make a donation to help defray our costs if you are able! All donations are tax-deductible and help keep our K-12 activities free to participants.
Food will be provided. Transportation will be provided as needed to HS participants, either through transit passes or pickup. |

AgilePDX Downtown Pub Lunch: A Roundtable
Roll back
| description |
After months of speakers, we agreed last month that it would be nice to do a round table discussion again, the format on which this group was founded.
So, bring your thorny problems, your triumphs, and your favorite soapbox on down to Ringler's on Burnside this Friday at lunch. Each month we fill the room with expert pontification, morale support, and agilista vibe fit to refuel your depleted vim.
We'll oil the conversational joints with a discussion of an upcoming Agile PDX special event designed to help us figure out if we've lost our way or are appropriately breaking new ground. |

Developing/Designing for Google Glass
Roll back

<p>Is it too early to start talking about Glass, Google's new eyepiece display? I don't think so. The small display, "card" and "timeline" metaphors, voice/visual interaction, new gestures (like blink!) and ever-present display will present new challenges and opportunities for designers and programmers alike.</p>
<p>Eric Redmond has spent the last few months working on the Mirror API, and peering into the gnostic Glass SDK. He's also writing a book about Glass (woops! that's a secret). If you want a peek at the future, or discuss why you think this technology will fail (unlikely), or just want to see what all the fuss is about, you don't want to miss this one.</p>
<p>Sign up early, I expect this to be a packed house.</p> |

<p>As a followup to Erin Kurtz's talk in May, Edward Irby will focus on the technical details of creating html wireframes and prototypes using modern libraries specifically Sass, jQuery, Handlebars js, and Meteor js. He will demonstrate and explain in technical detail how the four can be used to rapidly design and develop a UI. At the end, Edward will demo a live and current project.</p>
<p>Bring your thinking caps, this is a deep dive.</p>

- what that tells us about where we'd like to be
- what next steps will help us get there
Not one of our usual meetings, but more of an AgilePDX-wide retrospective and continuous improvement event. Please join us in service to the local Agile community. AgilePDX can be the best user group EVAR!

BI: Let's be Agile All the Way
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
The DAMA Portland Chapter is dedicated to delivering thought provoking presentations that will make you more successful in your job. In July we look at Agile BI and Data Management.
Speed, flexibility and iterative development have become critical success factors in BI and Data Management as organizations realize that there is no such thing as "set in stone project plans". Now, agility shouldn't stop at the project management level, it should also be engrained in the tools, the data model designs and the processes. From reporting, to analysis, to the database all the way to data integration and master data management, teams should focus on creating agility all the way and carefully choosing solutions and partners accordingly.
What are the latest "agile" benchmarks, how to take advantage of new technologies, what are the impact on project design are among the discussion points that will be shared with the attendees.
Our Speaker, Gauthier Vasseur, is a great speaker and thought leader in BI. Although the topic is BI and Agile, you can get a lot of questions answered and learn some vital information. |

Stay tuned as we'll be updating regularly. REGISTRATION COMING SOON.
## NOTE:
* For now, you can RSVP via the Meetup page (see website link above). This will help us to know how many people to expect! Thanks! |
