Portland Deep Learning - Fast.AI Part 2 and Deep Learning Book
Roll back
| description |

ets start by getting together to discuss the first video from part 2 of the Fast.AI course and the first chapter of the Deep Learning Book (links below).
You don't have to be completely 'caught up' on the material but it would be helpful if you have worked through some of it and bring your questions and what you have learned to help others.
We're at a new location that should be quieter and have more parking. There is no food there but you can bring your own as long as you clean up afterwards. We'll see how it turns out.
Also, I want to keep this group format more of a study group, book club, office hours type group. There are other great groups in town that do presentations on related topics. Perhaps I'll see you there too.
Looking forward to it.

Real-world Serverless security with FaunaDB and Amazon API Gateway
Roll back
| description |

Current popular cloud databases aren't native to serverless—you have to pay for capacity you don’t use. Additionally, they often lack support for joins, indexes, authentication, and other capabilities necessary to build a rich application.
See how FaunaDB's data and operations model fits serverless applications like a glove. The core of the talk is a live code session showing an app using the Serverless.com framework to run real world queries in FaunaDB. If you haven't coded with the Serverless framework before you'll be comfortable picking it up after this.

The format of the night is an “around the world”; after the welcome, we will break into 3 smaller groups and each smaller group will attend every session offered. The night will be centered around how the team at Second Story works collaboratively, how they create prototypes that help them push the boundaries, and the leadership styles that make it all possible. </p> <p>We hope you’ll join us. <b><a href="https://secondstory.com/">Second Story</a> </b>is absolutely thrilled to host us in their new studio!</p> <p>

Emacs Monthly Hackers Group
Roll back
| description |

This month, the Emacs Hackers assemble for lightning talks demonstrating the results of last month’s project. Followed by a session of **Hacking on Org Mode Tasks**.
Due to a [posted tweet](https://twitter.com/wobher/status/861784180195303426) about _automatic refiling_ of old tasks, we figured we could hack Emacs to analyze the timestamps associated with tasks and archive or delete tasks that are too old to be relevant.
Our hack nights are collaborative *group programming* and quite a bit of fun, especially if you know little about Emacs Lisp. We pick simple projects that can be started during our hack night, but that can be polished and personalized afterwards.
Hope to see you there! |

The building front doors will be locked. You'll find a phone number on the door to contact to be let in. (You can alternately try knocking.) You'll be directed to take the elevator to the 8th floor. From there you'll find Suite 850 on your right. It's labeled Forge Portland. Straight ahead you'll see a sandwich board that says Collective Agency. The Athens Conference Room is just to the left of that. |

Those selected after filling out the one page form will be given first priority in pitching order. It is highly recommended you fill out the one page form. To request the one page form to apply to pitch, email Mark Grimes at mark dot grimes at gmail

Basis: Women are 50% of the American population. Yet, less than 8% of investments go to women businesses. Let’s join Warren Buffet in his vision :”We’ve seen what can be accomplished when we use 50% of our human capacity. If you visualize what 100% can do, you’ll join me as an unbridled optimist about America’s future”.
Scholarship Tickets: are available if the ticket cost is a challenge at this time, contact Mark directly at mark dot grimes at gmail
Of course, the presenters are NOT buying their tickets, pitch events that charge for pitching are uncool.

Magic Night - Javascript Code Challenge
Roll back
| description |

Magic Night is a hands on, team oriented, Javascript coding lab, welcoming of all experience levels and backgrounds. We get together because coding is fun; fun to solve hard problems, and fun to work together. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group.
This month, we're going to build the popular RPG from 1990, The Oregon Trail. To set the scene, you're a pioneer ready to set out on the Oregon Trail. With a head full of big dreams, and a pocket of cash, you've got some choices to make, and many more choices await along the way. All of them affect your and your party's chances of making it all the way to Oregon City. Will you succeed? Its going to take a clear head, good decisions, and a fair bit of luck to make it through. Safe Travels Homesteader!
