create Calagator::Event 1250472086 AH10 Austin Roll back

description nil Over the years we’ve seen teams of coders, designers and entrepreneurs from around the world become Whole Developers, watched as their Thoughts Become Things, and proved that Anyone Can Code. We’ve seen the code commit moment over and over again. The “oh sh*t I hope this works” moment. The moment where you know your hopes and dreams of winning that prize, that spot in the accelerator, that idea validation, are all on the line. So, for our 10th Global Hackathon Series, we’re asking you to Commit To Your Code, and in turn commit to your project, a global ecosystem, yourself, your team, and your future. #AH10 is here.

create Calagator::Event 1250472085 PDX Big Data Discussion Group Roll back

description nil "No talks. You may opt to take up to 60 seconds to complain about Big Data. No obligation to read the paper." We'll start by letting anyone who wants to take up to a minute to tell us what they've been doing with data lately. This month's paper is [What’s your ML Test Score? A rubric for ML production systems](https://sites.google.com/site/wildml2016nips/SculleyPaper1.pdf) by Eric Breck, Shanqing Cai, Eric Nielsen, Michael Salib, and D. Sculley. Read it or don't - the goal is just to have something to start conversations. "Did you read the paper?" will do nicely. Mention @PDXBigData on Twitter with the link to the full paper to suggest papers for future sessions. There will be food.

If you have an item women used to wear or take to work in the mid-80's, bring it along. Photo evidence works too! That ought to get us going and generate a new perspective. Agenda :<br> 5:30p.m. Gather, chat and nosh.<br> 6:00p.m. Lean Coffee: What’s changed for women in the workplace — and what hasn’t — since 1986?<br> 7:15p.m. Compare learnings across the Lean Coffee subgroups. PDXWIT Purpose : PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. update Calagator::Event 1250469845 IndieWeb Summit 2016 Roll back

description The IndieWeb movement is a global community that is building an open set of principles and methods that empower people to take back ownership of identity and data instead of sharecropping on 3rd party websites. Join us in downtown Portland for two days of a BarCamp-style gathering of web creators building and sharing open web technologies to empower users to own their own identities & content, and advance the state of the indie web! You’ll learn about ways to empower yourself to own your data, create and publish content on your own site, and only optionally syndicate to third-party silos. Along the way you’ll get a solid grounding in the history and future of Microformats, domain ownership, IndieAuth, Webmention, Micropub and more! The IndieWeb movement is a global community that is building an open set of principles and methods that empower people to take back ownership of identity and data instead of sharecropping on 3rd party websites. create Calagator::Event 1250472077 LIT-Lab PDX (Legal Innovation & Technology) - The Ethics of Legal Innovation Roll back

description nil <p>Hello LIT-Lab PDX!</p> <p>We're on track for our next Meetup on Tuesday June 20, when we'll be returning to the Jaguar Land Rover incubator for a very special presentation from Amber Hollister, General Counsel of the Oregon State Bar. </p> <p>Among other things, Amber provides <a href="http://www.osbar.org/ethics/">ethics assistance</a> to Oregon lawyers and others servicing the legal needs of Oregonians. More recently, she has spent the past several months as the Bar's primary contact to the Regulatory Committee of the Futures Task Force of the Bar (the sister committee to the Innovation Task Force that we kicked off here at LIT-Lab back in the fall). </p> <p>Both committees of the Futures Task Force are in the process of finalizing their findings and recommendations to present to the Bar's Board of Governors later this month, and Amber and I will both give you all a preview of those recommendations. (Teaser: if adopted, the recommendations should put Oregon at the national forefront of innovative approaches to Access to Justice issues).</p> <p>Then, Amber will spend a little time talking about the ethics of legal innovation more generally, including plenty of time to answer your questions.</p> <p>NW Corporate Law is generously providing pizza again this time. Hope you can make it!</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472075 How Does the Internet Work? Roll back

description nil Frontend, Backend, DevOps! Server-side rendering! SSL and HTTPS and SQL injection?! What the heck does all this jargon actually mean? If you're in a leadership position and you need to fill a tech role, it can be hard to know up from down. If your software engineer tells you to pay for an expensive service "for security reasons", how do you know whether its worth your money? In this workshop, we'll answer the question "how does the internet work" from a Helicopter's perspective. You don't need any programming skills to attend, but be sure to come with questions! By the end, you'll understand the following concepts and how they fit together: - The difference between websites, apps, and servers - Cybersecurity hygeine (and how to avoid being hacked) - Common software developer job descriptions - Basics of computer programming (bring a laptop if you want!) Tickets: Free for Hatch Members, $20 for non members Workshop Leader: Finn Terdal, Technology Manager at Hatch

update Calagator::Event 1250472065 Women + Tech Third Annual Summer Soirée Roll back

description **Please RSVP on Eventbrite** Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership withWomen Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia! Portland often prides itself on being inclusive, and the tech scene is no exception. We think of ourselves as being the welcoming tech city and congratulate ourselves for our diversity pledges. We read stories and articles on our feeds depicting the inequities — and sometimes monstrosities — our neighbors to the south, in Silicon Valley, face. We feel thankful those thingsdon’t happen here. Unfortunately, those things *do* happen here, often in the shadows, but those involved don’t know whom to tell or where to go. At this year’s summer soiree, our theme is dedicated to openly discussing how we can change the Portland tech culture to be more inclusive, moving away from the bro-culture, and discussing how this community and our allies can work together to make the Portland tech scene a more welcoming place for all. Our conversation starter is “Which label is the least helpful in tech? (e.g. bro-grammer, lady-boss, man-splainer, etc...).” The summer soiree is a mixture of networking and speaking segments, and we will be joined by a diverse group of panelists who will share their stories and insights, leaving us with ideas and next steps to strive for the change we desire: • Moderator: Terra Soma, Senior Organizational Development and Change Consultant at Legacy Health • Lori DeLone, CIO Health Plans at Cambia • Ryan Carson, CEO Treehouse • Deena Pierott, Founder iUrbanTeen and Black Women in Tech Advisory Board member • Katharine Nester, Chief Product and Technology Office Ruby Receptionists During the event, we’ll have an Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look forMeg Aul, our Event Activities Director. PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events. **Please RSVP on Eventbrite** Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership withWomen Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia!
