create Calagator::Event 1250468011 SQAUG Presents: Non-Expert Automation Testing (NEAT) Roll back

description nil SQAUG Presents: Non-Expert Automation Testing (NEAT) by Loren Brown at Con-Way 2055 NW Savier, Portland, OR 97209 on Wednesday March 18, 2015 5:30pm until 7:30pm Event is FREE and Open to the Public Non-Expert Automation Testing (NEAT) is an automation testing framework that enables non-experts to harness the power of data-driven, Selenium automation tests. The NEAT web portal simplifies and guides the creation of otherwise complex scripts through the use of an intuitive user interface that manages a web element object repository, test case input data, and test scripts. This approach is intended to enable test script automation to be completed in hours or days instead of weeks or months. The motivation behind NEAT is to equip business analysts, without automation expertise, with an intuitive tool to create and execute sophisticated, automated end-to-end testing scripts. This framework enables teams to increase automated test coverage and allows the highly skilled automation developers to focus on more complex automation testing needs of the organization. About Our Speaker: Loren J. Brown is a Test Automation Architect and owner of Quantum Peg, Inc. He is currently teaming up with John Cvetko from TEK Associates to develop the DEAP testing tool. After obtaining a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at Portland State University, Loren worked for over two decades as a QA Engineer in various capacities. At Intel Corporation he spent a little over a dozen years in various product teams and Intel Labs as a QA Lead in various software projects including Video Conferencing, IP Telephony, TCP/IP Network Performance, and others. He spent over six years at Automatic Data Processing (ADP) as a QA Lead developing various test automation frameworks and harnesses, and multiple software lifecycle data visualization projects. When he carves out time for hobbies, Loren likes tinkering with microcontrollers and small electronics projects. Agenda: 5:30-6:00PM: Pizza and Networking 6:00-6:15PM: SQAUG Announcements 6:15-7:30PM: Presentation/Q&A Details: · Event is Free to the public · Onsite parking (directions below) · Light Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served · No RSVP is required to attend SQAUG is the Portland/Vancouver area’s leading Software Quality Assurance User Group. description nil Reading through technical books in a group is a great way to learn. You can stay motivated by reading together; better apply what you are reading by actively communicating it, as well as hearing others perspectives that will help you better understand the book. Even if you're a more experienced developer it's a great way to keep your skill sharp and share your wisdom and experience. If none of that is convincing just come and have fun with fellow ruby developers! We are reading [Practical Object-Oriented Design in Ruby](http://www.poodr.com) by Sandi Metz. This week we will discuss chapters 4-5. Please come having read the chapters and ready to discuss it. Make sure to grab food before.

create Calagator::Event 1250468004 PDXbyte users group (C/C++/Assembly) Roll back

description nil “Reinventing black boxes” Description: Open source has a long history of reimplementing, and reverse engineering proprietary tools. This talk will integrate the tools needed to reverse engineer into stories of how it has been done before. Abstract: There is a constant need to provide open source glue, and alternatives to new technology. Learning how to analyze black boxes frees you from having to wait for someone else to do it. When you solve the puzzle yourself you will really understand how it works. Reverse engineering is a lot like debugging. There are open source full development stacks including debugging for almost every operating system, and architecture. There are a few other tools you need, but with decades of reinvention the toolbox will usually have everything you need. Since black boxes aren’t documented it’s impossible to know for sure if you will have the skills you need ahead of time. They are puzzles which might be easy, or hard. Chances are you won’t have to go it alone for long as other people, and whole communities often want the same thing that you do. Bio: Daniel Johnson is a full stack developer who has been programming since 1990, and focused on Open Source technologies since 2003. Jobs have ranged from telephone tech support to systems administration, and freelance software development. He has spent the most time in the last few years working with Rails, AngularJS, Android, and Arduino. He was the first person to document how to use the intel real sense 3d camera with Linux. Talk begins at 7, get there early for socializing, pizza and refreshments! Join our mailing list! https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/pdxbyte

description nil Possible Topics this meeting: - [IPFS](http://ipfs.io/) Just launched and it would be great to talk about how it can help people host large files on their personal sites. Are you building your own website? Indie reader? Personal publishing web app? Or some other digital magic-cloud proxy? If so, come on by and join a gathering of people with likeminded interests. Bring your friends that want to start a personal web site. Exchange information, swap ideas, talk shop, help work on a project, whatever!

description nil <p>Robot Hack Night and a DeLorean! Thursday, 3/5 6pm</p> <p><br>Next week’s open house is going to be a bit different than usual. We’re mixing things up and hosting an impromptu robot hacking competition, similar to hebocon.</p> <p><br>Heard of hebocon? It is a sumo style battle competition for crappy robots! Rules are here <a href="http://portal.nifty.com/hebocon/files/HEBOCON_simple_rule_book_v1.pdf"></a><a href="http://portal.nifty.com/hebocon/files/HEBOCON_simple_rule_book_v1.pdf" class="linkified">http://portal.nifty.com/hebocon/files/HEBOCON_simple_rule_book_v1.pdf</a> Come hang out, build a crappy robot that battles against other crappy robots. The winner (or crappiest) will win a free ticket to ‘Hack to the Future’, but more on that in the next paragraph. Bring an old rc car or other electronics to assemble a robot for the competition.</p> <p><br>Also, you may be wondering, ‘what was that about a DeLorean?!’ Our friends over at Hackster (hackster.io) are going to be in town for their 10 city ‘Hack to the Future’ tour. One of the stops is here at CTRL-H! We’re very excited to host their Delorean on our back lot for the evening. Additionally, we’ve gotten a hold of a 50% off discount code. Use <b>CTRL-H </b>at checkout for your 'Hack to the Future' tickets.</p> <p><br>So come by and see a Delorean in person, and stick around for food, drinks and plenty of robot hacking!</p> <p> <i>Thursdays are open house night here at CTRL-H. This is when members gather and can open the door for you. We know we can be there by 7:00PM, but most of the time we are hours early. We don't have an opening ceremony or any formal meeting. This is a time for you to eavesdrop on other peoples projects and get support on a project that you may need help with. Bring your inventions, your technical toys and your broken microwave to CTRL-H and Hack with friends.</i></p>

description nil <p>Join us for tips on running an organization from folks who work in for-profit companies and want to share their wisdom — especially as it relates to technology and tech management.</p> <p><b>Lessons for Non-Profits from Your For-Profit Friends</b></p> <p>There are things I needed to know about running a successful nonprofits that I learned from my for-profit friends.</p> <p>Let’s face it—there isn't much difference between non-profits and for-profits. We both have strategies, missions statements, goals we must met… however, there are helpful hints I think non-profits could learn from a for-profit organization. </p> <p>You’ll leave this meetup with the 10 lessons you can immediately put into action at your non-profit.</p> <p>We’ll cover lots of topics:</p> <p>•  Quick and easy tech tools to start using … and they are free</p> <p>• How to fake being an extrovert… a social guide to networking and fundraising</p> <p>• Recruiting virtual volunteers</p> <p>• How to run successful events</p> <p>• Basic project management</p> <p>• Wearing multiple hats without getting a headache…</p> <p>• Marketing 101 and why it’s important</p> <p>• Consultative solutioning</p> <p>• Multiculturalism</p> <p>• How to lose your audience in 5 minutes or less  (when not to talk tech)</p> <p>• How to close the deal/donation</p> <p><b>PRESENTERS</b></p> <p><b>Christy Howell Moore</b> has over 20 years in for profit environments working with local, Fortune 500 companies and the Japanese government.  She has an MBA in sales and marketing but most of her success is due to well-honed street smarts and a variety of jobs. Christy is a pioneer in the food industry specializing in convenience stores. She volunteers with several local non-profits.  You can connect with her on LinkedIn and Twitter. Seriously send her a marketing problem she’ll work with you on a solution (for 5 cents) just like Lucy from the Peanuts. </p> <p><b>Stephanie Gutowski </b></p> <p><b>TWITTER</b></p> <p>Event: Use the #pdxt4g hashtag, and/or mention @PDXTech4Good<br>Presenters: @SigmaRue<br>Venue host: @idealist<br>Sponsors: @NTENorg and @NetSquared</p> <p><b>AGENDA</b></p> <p>Networking and refreshments: 6pm-6:30pm<br>Presentation: 6:30pm-7:50pm<br>Q&A: 7:50pm-8pm</p> <p><b>ACCESSIBILITY</b></p> <p><b>Mobility Access: </b>This venue is wheelchair accessible.<br><b>Hearing Access: </b>We will not have access to a PA.<br><b>Sight Access: </b>Presentations will use a projector.</p> <p>We want everyone to be able to participate in the PDXTech4Good community and events. We'll explore how technology can help support activism and where activism can push it forward.</p>
