create Calagator::Event 1250476473 PNSQC 2020 Vision: Lighting the Torch Roll back

description nil This year’s theme for PNSQC is 2020 Vision: Quality Looking Forward. We chose this theme to inspire attendees and speakers to think of ways to learn from the past, and envision ways to achieve quality software in the future. Just as lighting the Olympic flame before the games is a gesture of ceremony and inspiration, this kickoff of the call for proposals for PNSQC 2020 is a way to spark your imagination to contribute your own vision of quality. Come hear a "full stack" of lightning talks on visions of quality. What’s in store for software QA in the future as it merges with DevOps. How will you adapt to changing organizational structures, roles and required knowledge? Find out what leaders in the field are thinking and doing. Get inspired to see yourself presenting in October at PNSQC 2020 Networking afterward for ideas to achieve 2020 vision. Snacks and refreshments available during the talks. Then prepare to share your own clarity of vision at PNSQC 2020 by submitting a proposal to present at the conference in October. How do I get involved? To attend, please finish your RSVP here on meetup. If you wish to present at this event, please submit your ideas on PNSQC’s OpenConference site: https://www.openconf.org/pnsqc2020/author/submit.php This event is open to software developers, IT managers, project managers, product owners, testers, security professionals -- anyone who is passionate about professional software quality.

create Calagator::Event 1250476472 Portland Linux/Unix Group: Do you still use ASCII? Roll back

description nil Portland Linux/Unix Group General Meeting Announcement Who: Steve Dum
What: Do you still use ASCII?
Where: PSU, 1900 SW 4th Ave. Room FAB 86-01 (Left Entrance, Lower Level)
When: Thursday, December 5th, 2019 at 7pm
Why: The pursuit of technology freedom
Stream: http://pdxlinux.org/live A look at the journey from ASCII to UTF-8. I'll discuss the ramifications of the results of this journey for users and highlight cautions for developers. We have gone from the simple, a character is a byte, to a character may be tens of bytes, and worse monospace characters are not always the same width when displayed. This is a overview of features every GNU/Linux user should be aware of. It also highlights some issues programmers and sysadmins will face. I am a UTF-8 neophyte trying to fix a broken program that now needs to use UTF-8. I've spent decades porting large programs to new environments. Now I'm planning on integrating a large library to a small program. ATTENTION! Thanks to a new security policy, attendees will need to enter through the 1900 SW 4th entrance by 8PM, just North of the 1930 SW 4th entrance adjacent to Hawaiian Express, formerly Taco Del Mar: https://www.google.com/maps/place/1900+SW+4th+Ave,+Portland,+OR Many will head to the Lucky Lab at 1945 NW Quimby St. after the meeting. Ride shares to the Lucky Lab available PLUG is open to everyone and does not tolerate abusive behavior on its mailing lists or at its meetings.

create Calagator::Event 1250476471 Multnomah County Municipal Broadband Town Hall Roll back

description nil Multnomah County and a collection of constituent municipalities have launched a feasibility study to investigate the challenges and opportunities of building a publicly owned telecommunications utility here, largely at the behest of a campaign called Municipal Broadband PDX. Next week we are going to hold the first of two public outreach events, in conjunction with Multnomah County. The idea is to report on where we are, and gather feedback on what people want when it comes to the future of telecommunications in Multnomah County, and how we can get there. On December 4 (doors open at 5:30pm, program gets underway a little after 6pm), we're holding the first event at the Louiza Event Space, 2808 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Suite B. It's free. There will be some food and drink. Multnomah County commissioners Sharon Meieran and Susheela Jayapal will be there and speak briefly. There will be break out sessions at tables to answer questions and collect feedback. The second event will take place on December 17 in Gresham. The details and registration links can be found on our EventBrite page. Municipal Broadband PDX welcomes your participation! https://www.eventbrite.com/o/municipal-broadband-pdx-19768337447

description nil The Linux Clinic meets once a month on the third Sunday from 1 - 5 pm at Free Geek, 1731 SE 10th Avenue, Portland, 97214. Bring your Linux computer that is being a brat and we'll teach it some manners. Or bring your computer that has some evil operating system on it and we'll send it home with a shiny, clean Linux distro. Or just come and look over shoulders to see what Linux is all about. If you already know Linux well, the Clinic is also a good place to learn how to help users troubleshoot problems. It's excellent training for tech support work in Linux. We have monitors, mice, keyboards, and miscellanous other perifpherals, so generally all you need to bring is the box. There will also be coffee and people usually bring munchies as well. After all, you can't do computers on an empty tummy.
