Entrepreneurship is a path filled with purpose, innovation, and growth—but also with unique challenges that can wear down even the most passionate founders. The constant demands, isolation, and pressure to succeed can build up, creating chronic stress that, if left unchecked, leads to burnout.
In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn to recognize and address the subtle triggers of stress before they accumulate, explore methods to manage self-doubt and fear of failure, and identify practical ways to maintain balance and clarity. Through a combination of real-world insights and a unique framework for resilience, we’ll cover:
- Recognizing early signs of stress that may lead to burnout
- Managing uncertainty and finding your center amidst rapid change
- Working with fears, imposter syndrome, and moments of self-doubt
- Tools to stay grounded, even when resources feel scarce
- Realigning with purpose and creating sustainable work-life boundaries
Whether you're in the early stages or scaling up, this workshop offers valuable strategies to navigate the entrepreneurial journey without sacrificing well-being, integrity, or personal growth. Join us to learn how you can lead yourself and your venture with resilience and authenticity. |

Demolicious - November 2024
Roll back
description |
nil |
→ |
Demolicious is back! This monthly pitch event brings together founders and the community to learn about what is being built here and around Portland.
How this all works: If you are a founder, you will apply to pitch here. Don't worry. "Apply" simply means you want to pitch, but there's no real competitive process to be accepted. We just want to see what you're working on before we put you in front of a room full of people.
You will be given 3 minutes to pitch at the event.
The audience will be given a number to text and vote for their favorite one. The one with the most votes will go home with the Demolicious Championship belt.
The belt is not for you to keep as you will have to come back and "defend" it. However, you will be allowed to put your startup sticker (if applicable) on the belt for all to see and to live on forever in infamy!
We will post the projects/companies that will be pitching a week prior to the event. Which means you have until then to fill out the form.
Teams Pitching:
Shotsy (Defending Champion)
Denada
Funnr
Forcefield
Fluency
Deviceflow
Benvision
Goddess Mousse
Prophetic
Will you be the next founder to pitch!?! |

Portland Linux/Unix Group General Monthly Meeting: an OpenWrt Clinic
Roll back
description |

A quick overview of the build system for OpenWrt on supported devices, followed by a demonstration of installation and configuration. If you have a device you'd like help installing OpenWrt on, bring it along, perhaps we'll have time to address it. At a minimum there will be a Watchguard Firebox M300.
Russell Senior has been building OpenWrt from source for a variety of purposes since about 2006 and has considerable knowledge about the ins and outs and what-have-yous.
For background, you can watch a presentation he gave at Open Source Bridge in 2014:

(some of the information in that talk from a decade ago is stale, so beware) |

description |
PLEASE NOTE: The December 2024 meetup deviates from our normal "last Tuesday" schedule, to avoid falling on New Years Eve. It is taking place a day before on Monday December 30th, the usual time and place.

RainSec is an informal group of like-minded security professionals who meet to network and discuss topics of interest in a non-work, non-vendor setting.

While our target audience is experienced information security professionals, this is a public event open to any interested parties. If you have a friend or colleague who might benefit, please pass an invite along.

Follow @PDXRainSec on Twitter for last minute updates.

Because COVID-19 still presents significant risk to some members of our community, we ask that you observe the following and make your own risk assessment decision regarding your attendance:
* If outdoor seating is available and weather permits, we will be outside.
* **If you are feeling sick, stay home!**
* **If you've had a recent COVID exposure, stay home!**
* **If you are not vaccinated, stay home!**
* If you are otherwise considered high risk for COVID, please stay home until you feel it is safe to gather in large groups (20-40 people). We don't want to be the cause of anyone's illness or death.

You can also find us on Meetup.com and Google Groups.
If you're looking for more security-focused community meetups in the Portland area, check out pdx-infosec.com. |

→ |
Delivering products, services, and experiences that truly delight and inspire people requires human-centered designers, researchers, and product managers to have a huge influence on the strategic business decisions made by their leaders. Learn proven ways to draw C-suite and other key stakeholders into your design process at the right moments to help them build empathy and invest in innovations that maximize customer and business impact. Our session will use case study examples to introduce techniques you can apply now to design for influence.
About our speaker:
Jed Cahill has spent the majority of his career driving strategic initiatives at the intersection of business planning, strategic design, and innovation in both management consulting and corporate strategy leadership roles. With a passion for creating inclusive work environments that promote empathy, creativity, and future thinking, he empowers people across all backgrounds and organizational levels to push the boundaries of what's possible.
Jed and his teams have led the strategic design of new experiences and digital products rolled out to tens of millions of customers, transformed business operations to drive efficiency and better employee experiences, and generated hundreds of patented inventions at the intersection of emerging technology and human needs. A graduate of University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business (MBA), he now lives in SE Portland.

PDT is a volunteer-run organization, and as you can imagine, organizing events can be expensive. We rely on sponsors and donations to help us offset these costs. If you would like to help, we accept donations through Venmo @PortlandDesignThinkers. |

Pacific Northwest Aerospace Expo
Roll back
description |

We are the Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS), an interdisciplinary, student-led group at Portland State University, that built Oregon’s first and second satellite, both which are in orbit. PSAS works closely with students, non-profit organizations, companies, and schools both in and outside of Oregon to also promote STEAM education, one of which is our Pacific Northwest Aerospace Expo (PNWAE).
The PNWAE is a yearly event held by PSAS at Portland State University since 2019. What was once a small, intimate gathering of local aerospace industry professionals and enthusiasts has become better than ever with remarks from Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley in previous years. We've also had esteemed guest speakers from NASA, John Hopkins APL and other instructions join us for remarkable talks.
Although we are a hybrid event, this year we are having in-person booths, to which other universities, colleges, and science organizations such as Oregon State University, OES Aerospace, etc. are coming to table and participate. |
