Are you interested in an affinity group for women like you? Have you noticed that it can be difficult to find women in tech who are still in there swinging? PDXWIT is partnering with Jean Richardson to create a group for women like you. In defiance of the infographics that show we disappear after age 50, we will be coming together at Apex Clearing to build and strengthen connections and face forward to the future we want. PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. She specializes in UX design and we look forward to hearing her thoughts and her journey in the digital marketing space. An excerpt of her journey in her own words - "While I started my career in the design industry working on print projects, after joining Razorfish as an Art Director, I dove deep into the world of digital design. As a digital agency Razorfish has a large UX department, and from the get-go I was interested in this "experience-based” take on design. Razorfish encourages employees to experiment with other disciplines, and when I started exploring, UX opportunities immediately opened up for me. I had always enjoyed visual design but once experience design was thrown into the mix, the design problems I had once found interesting became truly fascinating. Jumping on the chance to expand my skill set lead me from a job I enjoyed, to one that I’m truly passionate about."

description nil → Tonight, our Emacs Hangout will feature *two* talks (one oriented to less experienced Emacsians): • First, **Matthew Hoselton** will continue where he left off to give the next part in his series of Programming in Emacs Lisp. The first part covered primitives, and this next part will cover more interesting data structures like associative lists as well as buffers and windows. • Next, **Cyd** will give a presentation on using Emacs to develop **Haskell** projects. A partially completed project, Emacs config, and instructions will be provided before the talk. A Docker image will be provided for those who do not want to install all of the required tools. Packages (briefly) demonstrated will be intero, haskell-mode, haskell-snippets, hlint-refactor, flycheck, company, and projectile. Topics covered will be: automatic type and style checking, type signature insertion, inspecting type and info of thing at point, automatic refactoring using compiler and lint suggestions, yasnippet templates, jumping to definitions (including 3rd party definitions), loading the current buffer into the REPL, and running tests. description nil → BarCamps are free unconferences where the people who show up on the day of the conference decide what the conference is about. It has been shown time and time again to produce some of the best material available. The spontaneity of the entire event stands in stark contrast to the more planned conferences you may have been to. Essentially the entire conference is a hallway track, and many people feel it’s the best quality of BarCamps! The CAT at PSU is an ops training organization that has secured the venue and is organizing the event.
