Sunday 07/31 4:00pm - Evening Possibly dinner in Bend, return to Portland (4.5 hour drive) Portland's premier rocket club is scheduling a public rocket launch in the Oregon high desert. This is the fourth launch of our third generation rocket. We expect to reach about 14,000 feet and to break the sound barrier! It's a 12 foot tall aluminum and fiberglass rocket that burns almost 15 pounds of fuel! If you've never seen a large(ish) rocket launch this could be your chance! This will be very similar to our last launch in October, but with new flight computer electronics. Read about our last launch here: http://psas.pdx.edu/news/2010-10-17-2/ Brothers is a long way from anywhere, we come in on Saturday and camp. You're welcome to join us. For the less adventurous (there are no amenities, bring your own water and food) you can stay in Bend and drive in -- it's about 45 minutes -- on Sunday morning. description nil AIGA Portland is holding The Living Principles Workshop on Wednesday, August 3rd. The Living Principles design framework is a catalyst for driving positive cultural change, and distills the four streams of sustainability—environment, people, economy and culture—into a roadmap that is understandable, integrated and most importantly, actionable. This event will help design/creative professionals understand and use this innovative sustainability framework. The event, on Wednesday, August 3rd from 1:30 – 5:00 pm at the David Evans & Associates Inc., is $20 for AIGA members, $15 for student members and $35 for non-members. Please RSVP and obtain additional information at https://aigaportland.org/events/living-principles-workshop-event. Phil Hamlett, one of the chief architects of The Living Principles, and graduate director of the School of Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, will lead the workshop. Through a series of engaging group challenges, attendees will apply The Living Principles to practical design problems. AIGA, the professional association for design, is committed to advancing design as a professional craft, strategic tool and vital cultural force. With Portland already at the vanguard of sustainability dialogue, the AIGA Portland Sustainability Committee provides on and offline environments for designers and thought leaders to discuss sustainability, green practices, the future role of visual communications, and beyond.

create Calagator::Event 1250460987 (Unconference) Evolving Virtual Teams Roll back

description nil Generally acknowledged best practices for software development strongly favor co-location, but with mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing, and off-shoring the co-located team is becoming an endangered species. Teams now are commonly project-based and geographically distributed. How can we work effectively with team members in different physical locations? Learn from key open source leaders that with the help of virtual teams produce some of the highest quality, most widely used software today. Come prepared to speak your mind, share your experience, listen and learn about working in a virtual team. If you are involved anywhere in the software development lifecycle, this event is for you. What is an Unconference? An Unconference is the inverse of a conference, in that there’s no predetermined, pre-set schedule, agenda, or speaker lineup. Utilizing the concept of OpenSpace, this unconference is the coming together of participants, with no predetermined agenda or program, to have an open discussion and share insight in a place where experts and beginners are equal. You won't be lectured at, rather you'll leave with a better understanding of a topic and the satisfaction of being heard outside Q&A time. The OpenSpace methodology is carefully designed to elicit maximum involvement and creativity in a constructive atmosphere. It is also highly flexible so that the content is entirely determined by you -- the participants. This is not to suggest that the conference will not have content or outcomes, for there certainly will be both. Achievement in the meeting will be totally dependent upon individual and collective responsibility to make it happen. The content is what each person shares, and the outcome is what we will all create. The event will be inventive, creative, productive and full of surprises. Capacity: 160 attendees Audience: From executives whom are concerned with productivity, quality and cost management to product owners, analysts, developers, designers, and testers all who are attempting to share a single thought and build upon it. Tickets | Volunteer

create Calagator::Event 1250460986 TechIgnite! Roll back

description nil If you had just five minutes to showcase your cutting-edge products, technologies, or methodologies, what would you say? What if you were forced to present those ideas with 20 PowerPoint slides that each rotated automatically after 15 seconds? The Software Association of Oregon is sponsoring an Ignite event on September 15th. As a speaker, you'll land a platform that challenges not only the way you present your ideas, but grants you access to an audience eager to listen. As an attendee, you'll learn about emerging, innovative, locally-sourced concepts while networking with a diverse and passionate crowd of like-minded, "early-adopters." We are actively looking for proposals but are limiting them only to only those innovations being built in Oregon. Want to give a talk? We know you do! Submit your proposal online by August 15. What is Ignite? Ignite is a fast-paced geek event where speakers share their personal and professional passions via 20 Powerpoint slides each auto-advancing every 15 seconds, giving each speaker exactly 5 minutes of fame. Quick, fun, thought-provoking, social, local, global - Ignite is all of these and more. It satisfies the ADD in all of us. It's a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by local people who have an idea - and the guts to get onstage and finally give that "elevator speech" we've all been told we need but rarely get to give. Agenda 5:30pm Doors open, badges, networking, booths, and music 7:00pm Welcome & Ignite talks begin 7:45pm Break 8:00pm Ignite talks resume 8:45pm Ignite talks end, final networking 9:00pm Event ends Presenters We've got 15 open TechIgnite! spaces - Submit your Proposal! Topics All TechIgnite! proposals should fall into at least one of these categories: * Products * Technology * Methodology * Concepts * Open!
