update Calagator::Event 1250476950 POSTPONED TO APR 7 - Agile Fluency® Game night Roll back

description *Postponed to April 7 due to Coronavirus concerns. Doublecheck on April 7 in case it's postponed further.* Come play the Agile Fluency Game! You’ll gain new insights into the benefits and trade-offs of adopting agile practices—and you’ll have a great time doing it. The Agile Fluency Game authentically simulates 2½ years on a software development team. It was developed so experiments in the game lead to new insights about your real-world options. As you play the game, you’ll make decisions about which agile practices to adopt. Of course, you have to deliver features, too! Or what’s the point? This is a great experience for agile team members interested in learning more about their options; managers and leaders wanting to better understand agile development; and people who enjoy modern board games such as Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride. *“Saved us money on our agile transition effort by getting a preview in 90 minutes!”* —Director, Agile Center of Excellence *“Makes the need for best practices come to life.”* —Manager *“Played first game and beautifully painted ourselves into a corner through the same mistakes real teams make. How’d that happen? Powerful teaching.”* —Senior Learning & Development Manager *“[Our leadership team] experienced 20 years of agile learning in 4 hours!”* —Director, R & D *“The shift from playing the game gave new focus to our discussion of leadership challenges.”* —VP, Product Management Doors open at 6pm. We’ll start playing at 6:30. Be sure to arrive before then: the building is secured at 6:30 and no further entry is allowed. To learn more about the game, visit https://www.agilefluency.org/game.php. CORONAVIRUS NOTE: We've been asked if we still plan to hold this event given the concerns about Coronavirus. We DO plan to hold the event, with the following precautions: * Attendance is limited to 16 people. (First come, first served.) * We will not be serving food or drink or allowing food in the game room. If you bring food, we have a separate dining area where you can eat. * Hand sanitizer and tissues will be available. Restrooms for washing hands are right across the hall. * Do not attend if you're sick or have flu symptoms. *Cancelled due to Coronavirus.* Come play the Agile Fluency Game! Our panel will discuss their tactics for working at home or remotely. We will talk about how we have adjusted schedules and environments to accommodate kids and other folks at home with us. update Calagator::Event 1250476956 Women Who Code Portland - Working Remote and Creating Community Roll back

description Panel and Discussion on Working Remote and Creating Community As the COVID-19 situation evolves, many of our offices have issued voluntary, recommended, or mandatory work-from-home guidance. While some of us already work from home and some of us are new to it, we are all adjusting to new situations with partners, kids, pets and housemates. We are also readjusting to a new way of socialization with virtual coffees and happy hours. Our panel will discuss their tactics for working at home or remotely. We will talk about how we have adjusted schedules and environments to accommodate kids and other folks at home with us. Then we will discuss ideas on how to create community and stay connected while practicing social distancing. We will then open it up for Q&A and discussion. We also want to hear from you, since this is a new situation for all of us and none of us have all the answers. create Calagator::Event 1250476955 PDXWIT Presents: Address Sexual Harassment: Create a Healthy Work Culture in Tech Roll back

Have you ever thought you shouldn't be the one to have to deal with it because you're not the one being sexist? If so, you're not alone. The good news is there are solutions. In this presentation learn: -- What sexual harassment is and how to identify it in your environment. -- How to respond as an ally when you see bullying or abuse in your work environment. -- The three key things you can do to create not just a safe, but a healthy workplace culture for yourself, no matter what. Agenda: 5:30 pm - Doors open / networking 6:00 pm - Introductions 6:15 pm - Presentation and Q&A 7:00 pm - Networking 7:30 pm - Event Ends Event FAQ Q: Will there be gender neutral restrooms? A: Yes. Q: Is the space ADA accessible? A: Yes. Q: Will there be food and drink at this event? A: Yes, and we will label vegan & gluten-free. Q: What is the parking situation? A: YES—however, it is not free. The on-site parking is in Pacific Center Garage, which is located in the basement floors of our building, The entrance ramp is on SW Taylor, right-hand side of the street, between SW 6th & Broadway. Q: Is there any special information that might help me find the entrance? A: Before 6:00pm, both Pacific Center entrances are available (SW 6th Avenue or Broadway). After 6:00pm, for attendees who do not use the parking garage, Pacific Center access is through the main SW 6th Avenue building entrance. The building is locked to visitors after 6:00pm. For attendees who are using the Pacific Center parking garage (this applies to cyclists who will lock their bikes in the garage, too). The parking garage is located on B1 and B2. From B1/B2, you will be able to access only the 1st Floor (this is the street level / lobby floor of Pacific Center). Take the elevator to the 1st floor, and exit to the elevator lobby. From there, a PDXWIT volunteer and Smarsh employee will be stationed in the elevator lobby to provide elevator badge access to the 8th floor. For all attendees exiting the event, elevators will take attendees from the 8th floor to the 1st floor (street-level, lobby exit) or to B1/B2 (basement, parking garage exit) without requiring an access badge. Q: Is there secured bike parking? A: Yes, there is bike parking in Pacific Center Garage, at the base of the ramp. It is free and secured, but not within Smarsh premises. Q: Should I consider using public transportation? A: Yes—Smarsh is located on SW 6th Avenue, which is a transit mall street, and most MAX lines have a stop within a 2 block walk. Q: Can I bring my dog? A: No, we ask that you leave your furry friend home. Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

create Calagator::Event 1250476951 Mob the Docs! A radical exercise in collaboration during a time of separation Roll back

description nil Joint Meetup with the Agile Mob Programming Workshop and Write the Docs Mob programming is a collaborative way to leverage the strength of the collective developers to solve problems and produce code with results that can be greater than the work of the individual participants alone. But can mobbing work for tech writers? Join us in this social experiment to apply mob programming principles to writing documentation. Mobbing works on the constraints created by the group. For this joint meetup, participants will be 100% remote. To join the meetup, please RSVP at Meetup link, and we’ll post a meeting link here on the day of the event. As a group, we will be presented with a writing challenge. With these constraints, and any further agreements we make, we’ll use collaborative online tools to explore the benefits and challenges of docs mobbing.

description Each Thursday, Alchemy welcomes anyone interested in our program, Portland's most accelerated coding boot camp, to stop in to take a tour of the school, meet our staff, students, and instructors, and ask any questions about an education and career in software development. We look forward to meeting you! No appointment necessary, just stop in and we'll be ready to greet you!!! ABOUT ALCHEMY CODE LAB: Learn from industry professionals in a collaborative environment with in-person instruction from experienced software developers. They share their knowledge and practices to enter the field at a more advanced level. Be supported by teaching assistants and career coaching. A low instructional staff to student ratio of 6 to 1 means you have access to the guidance and help you need to successfully complete our rigorous training. Get prepared and ready to network and connect with the companies that interest you and need your technical skills and experiences. Get more out of your code school. Go beyond online and video-based programs to launch your career at an accelerated level.
