create Calagator::Event 1250476768 PDX Ruby Monthly Meeting Roll back

description nil RSVP required, now closed. The February meeting will be held at Microsoft where we're going to hear from Scott Hanselman on personal productivity and being a social developer. We've heard from Scott before and can confirm that he is an excellent speaker with solid advice that will help you make the most of your career in tech. You can check out some of Scott's huge volume of technical content on his website hanselman.com. There are plenty of blog posts, talks and podcasts to give you a good idea of how fortunate we are to have Scott come join us to speak. Due to space limitations this event has a hard cap of 60 attendees. We're also going to need to submit a list of attendees to security ahead of time so it's vital that you RSVP if you're planning to attend. With that in mind please don't RSVP if you're not certain you can make it, as we expect we'll end up turning people away for a seat you're not planning to fill. Our second speaker of the evening will be the new/old organizer of PDX.rb Jonan, with an update on the present state of PDX.rb and the Ruby community at large as well as some exciting future plans for our community. You won't want to miss it. Come be social and make some new Ruby friends, we're looking forward to seeing you there!

create Calagator::Event 1250476767 How Our Earliest Relationships Shape Our Neurobiology and Influence Our Health - Synapsistic Meetup Roll back

description nil Beginning before birth, human development takes place deeply embedded within a biobehavioral system with other conspecifics. The attachment bond that forms between the highly altricial infant and its caregiver not only ensures the infant's survival but is the critical context for the brain development that underpins executive function and self-regulation. Emerging research identifies how infant-caregiver neurobiological synchrony between helps shape this development and how early experiences marked by deprivation, adversity, and trauma influence mental and physical health across the lifespan. In this talk, Dr. Waters will discuss the neurobiology of attachment, the ways in which early experience gets under the skin, and what we can do about it.

create Calagator::Event 1250476764 PDX Serverless Architecture Meetup: AWS CloudFormation: A Stack in the Sky ☁️ Roll back

description nil Join us in February for a fantastic introduction to AWS CloudFormation from Senior Software Engineer at Nike, Yves Gurcan! From Yves: "Tired of zipping and updating your Lambda functions by hand every time you want to deploy to production? Yeah, me too. What if I told you that there is a solution out there that lets you deploy your entire application to AWS from your local machine? What, you don't believe me? But this tool even has a cool aerial name that's like super on point because it's about cloud computing! Too good to be true? Great news! This service exists and it is called AWS CloudFormation. Let's talk about infrastructure as code! In this presentation, Yves will walk us through how to create a stack with CloudFormation... and then delete it! Together, we will thoroughly explore the capabilities of this service through the AWS Console. We will look at the CloudFormation template of an example application and decrypt the hieroglyphs 🐦 ☀️🏺 (also known as YAML CloudFormation) that deploy your resources to AWS. We will build things, break things, and have a good laugh! Bonus: After demoing how CloudFormation works, host Yves Gurcan will also showcase how Stackery can help you visualize your stack while you are writing it in Visual Studio Code!" About Yves: Yves Gurcan is a certified AWS Cloud Practitioner and a senior software engineer. Expert in all things JavaScript, he enjoys building bleeding edge web applications in React and Node. He also is the maintainer of an open-source library that enables browsers to play MIDI files: https://github.com/yvesgurcan/web-midi-player. Want to know more about this mysterious Frenchman? Get in touch with him at https://connect.yvesgurcan.com Schedule: Doors Open at 5:45 p.m. Programming to begin at 6:15 p.m. with Q&A after. Drinks and a casual dinner will be served. **Interested in speaking at a future event? Message us and let us know or fill out the form below! description nil Hey everybody. Got a bug you just can't land? Is there a recent CVE you've been eyeballing seductively? Just want to brush up on your APPSEC or OPSEC? Do none of the above questions make any sense, but you're interested in computer security? PDX Exploit Workshop is the longest running security meetup in Portland (10 years!). It's an open, self driven event for people interested in computer security. Whether you're a novice or career professional, all are welcome. It's always a good time to learn about security! We spend this dedicated time each week researching and exploring topics of software and hardware security as well as working on personal and group projects. Occasionally we have presentations on our findings. Bring a willingness to learn, a curiosity about security, and/or a specific area of interest to share with others. This group meets in the PDX Hackerspace mainspace which has comfy seating, deluxe wifi (thanks Kyle!), Club Mate soda in the snack shack, and hackable LED displays to play around with. p.s. This event is open to everyone! No ^H membership is required to attend. All are welcome. That means you!

update Calagator::Event 1250476759 PDX Home Automation meetup Roll back

description I'm very happy to announce our next meetup is at the Control H hackerspace in NW Portland. Its a really great space and perfect for the meetup group. They have a lot of interesting resources and free wifi! For this meetup we're going to have a little more structure to it. First we're going to have a 'show and tell'. Bring your laptop or borrow someone else's and show everyone what cool new gadget you set up or automation. Or you can just talk about what-ever you want to that you've recently got working in Home Assistant. These will be limited to 5 mins per person Next, we're going to go through the basics of getting started with Home Assistent. We'll talk about what to install it on, how to get it installed, and then maybe adding some simple device to start. If you have a Raspberry Pi or a device that you want to install Home Assistant on please bring it with you. Also if you have a monitor and keyboard that would be great. If not I believe there will be some monitors available. Those who already have Home Assistant running can help out those who are getting it installed Last but not least, pizza will be provided. I'm asking that everyone bring their favorite beverage. Ideally beer and cider (I prefer cider!) to go with the pizza Looking forward to seeing everyone! create Calagator::Event 1250476758 PDXNode – Hack Night! 💻 Roll back

description nil Welcome to the PDXNode Hack Night! What is a PDXNode Hack Night? PDXNode Hack Nights are your opportunity to enjoy a low-pressure JavaScript-centric environment where you shouldn't feel like you're supposed to do anything. First and foremost–just come and enjoy yourself. The night is yours: hang, hack, learn, or do whatever you’re interested in doing. 🙌 Depending on the size and interests of our attending group, we have various paths the night could go, and may or may not attempt some of the following: Map Ctrl-H into Hackerspace Regions The hackerspace will be mapped into 'regions', and you can feel free to gravitate towards whichever one suits your interest! • A place for beginners who want to get going with node for the first time. • A place for people who want to work on their own projects (eg. projects you want to do outside of work, but need to find the time). • A place for people to just hang out and connect. • A place for people to work on projects in groups! 'Unconference'-style Team Hacks For team-hackers, we'll have a board up and sticky-notes available available at the beginning of the night. Anyone can feel free to write the name and/or description of something they'd like to hack on with other people–and others who're interested can feel free to go to that region and join in! End of Night Show and Tell There will be a list available to write your name, or team's name down on to give a quick show and tell of your projects at the end of the night. We're pumped to see what you've been working on! Some general stuff to remember: Help is available! There will be seasoned Nodesters ready and available to help anyone with questions or advice in any of the hack-zones: beginners, solo, and group projects. Feel free to reach out and ask at any time throughout the evening. Do what you want to do Above all, we hope for this to be an easy-going event for people to do what they want to do with the time we have. Make the time awesome, it's yours. 😎 Code of Conduct PDXNode continues to abide by its Code of Conduct, and we ask everyone to commit to keeping to it in order for all of us to have a safe, fun, and amazing time. Wahoo! See you then! 🎉🎉 💻 🎉🎉

create Calagator::Event 1250476753 Galentine's Day: How to Make Friends as Professional Women Roll back

description nil While it might seem tough to maintain and cultivate friendships as a professional woman, the joy that stems from spending time with a close companion is immeasurable. Sometimes you just need a friendly shoulder to cry on when things turn sour. Or an ear to share your oh-so-exciting job news with! Too often we assume we don't have enough time in the day to be with friends. But that's what makes Galentine's Day so special — it gives you a full 24 hours to celebrate the friendships that make your life so wonderful. "Galentine's Day: How to Make Friends as Professional Women" is a festive opportunity to really honor the power of friendships. Bring your pals to honor each other over free food and drink - we'll have boozy and non-boozy drinks available. There will be an array of local, successful women speaking on a panel that focuses on the importance of friendships while toiling away in the working world. They'll talk of ways to cultivate friendships, and how to avoid the misconception that you can't make friends as an adult. There'll also be a fun ribbon activity that helps unite introverts, extroverts, and everyone in between. As well as a Valentine's Day card station - write up a message of love for your bestie and we'll stamp and send it for ya! ***Plus! Proceeds from this event will be going to Rose Haven - a local day shelter for women and children.*** Join us today to snag a seat amongst a bunch of amazing women! Meet the Panelists: Julia Andrews represents the National Association of Women Sales Professionals as the Chapter President for Portland, OR and is the founder and creator of The Art of Feminine Selling™, a sales methodology that highlights empathy and vulnerability as a strength with an emphasis on mindset and authenticity to self. She is a sales coach and a sales-team strategist who's sold over $215M in sales and who bring her expertise from working over 2 decades as a top-tier performer in corporate financial services to help and support women not be afraid of selling and achieve the financial success they envision for themselves. Before moving to the U.S. Julia shares that one of her biggest adventures was learning English as a second language while at the same time learning how to sell as she needed to alleviate the household burden to her single mother with 5 children. As she describes it, "Sales was my second language and English was my third." --- Blaire Hervey was born in Dallas, TX, raised in Louisville, KY, and launched a career as a highly competitive Sales Professional in Atlanta, GA. description nil Hey everybody.
