description PDXOSGeo connects again this week, Wednesday March 25, 6:30p Hot Lips Pizza @ the Natural Capital Center 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland OR. Join us for some show and tell and good open geo discussion! We're striving to post our speaker a couple weeks in advance of the meeting, so watch this space! PDXOSGeo connects again this week, Wednesday March 25, 6:30p Hot Lips Pizza @ the Natural Capital Center 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland OR. Join us for some show and tell and good open geo discussion! Our featured speaker this month is long-time contributor Ryan Hodges, who will be sharing how sometimes, to deal with the big things, you have to start with the little things. “Should I open a window?” This talk will cover how this question led one person to confront and process issues like digital isolation, international tariffs, and climate change. Ryan will share about how he has chosen to collect and publish environmental data to open data sets using open source hardware and software, why these metrics are so important for measuring community health, and why citizen science may be our best hope to support data-driven decisions and rebuild trust in polarized times.

create Calagator::Event 1250482514 Tech Talk | Code, Content, and Community: Life as a Developer Advocate Roll back

description nil Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to work as a Developer Advocate? Developer Advocacy sits at the intersection of technical depth, strategic communication, and community building. It blends coding, content creation, and relationship-building to help bridge the gap between engineering teams and the developers they serve. In this live Tech Talk, Jeremy Rivera, Full-stack Software Engineer and Developer Advocate, will explore the three pillars of modern developer relations: code, content, and community. He will share real-world lessons from working between engineering and marketing, and explain how advocacy can scale impact through education, open source, and accessibility. Whether you are exploring Developer Advocacy or looking to expand your influence beyond writing code, you will walk away with practical insights on how technical skills and communication work together. Save your spot now and join us on Friday, March 27 at 1 PM PT | 3 PM CT | 4 PM ET to discover life as a Developer Advocate.

create Calagator::Event 1250482513 Portland Linux/Unix Group General Monthly Meeting: Inside AI Supercomputers, with Jesse Lopez Roll back

description nil Summary: Inside AI Supercomputers: From GPUs to Multi-DC Clusters Large language models and other frontier AI systems are trained on clusters with thousands to over a hundred thousand GPUs. But what does that infrastructure actually look like? This talk walks through the anatomy of an AI supercomputer from the ground up: individual GPUs, multi-GPU nodes, racks, and full clusters. We'll cover the three pillars of compute, storage, and networking, then look at how training and inference workloads place very different demands on hardware. Finally, we'll explore how Linux runs the show at every layer from the OS on each node, to InfiniBand fabric management, to job scheduling with Slurm, Kubernetes, and Ray. No AI/HPC background required - just curiosity about what it takes to build and run the machines behind the models. Bio: Jesse Lopez is an AI/ML and Technical Program Manager in the Azure HPC/AI organization where he helps deploy large-scale AI infrastructure and works with customers to put it to use. A former scientist, he has a background in high-performance computing, AI/ML, and has been a Linux user since the nineteen hundreds.

create Calagator::Event 1250482510 Portland Monthly BEAM Meet & Chat Roll back

description nil Let’s get together for an informal BEAM PDX hangout: coffee, conversation, and light co-working. This is a low-key monthly meetup for folks working with Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, and other BEAM languages, aimed at reconnecting the local community and rebuilding momentum after a long quiet stretch. We'll holding this on the second Thursday of each month. There will be opportunities to: Ask questions about Elixir and other BEAM languages Share what you’ve been working on (or stuck on) Get help with programming or design problems Co-work: get things done with like-minded folks nearby Brainstorm ideas for future talk-based meetups and identify potential speakers Bring your laptop if you’d like. It's totally optional. New to BEAM languages, or just curious? You’re very welcome. Please RSVP so we know roughly how many people to expect. If your plans change, un-RSVP when you can. This meetup is also part of our transition away from Meetup to a new home for the group, where we’ll be organizing future events.
