create Calagator::Event 1250470810 Creating the Future of AI: Not Just for Silicon Valley Roll back

description nil It is not too soon for social debate on how the economic fruits of AI-Technologies should be shared 100 Year Study~ Stanford University Forge Portland is proud to present the 1st in a series of conversations on the future of AI and our role in shaping how the technology will be integrated into our economic, social and political lives. Over the next 10 years our society will likely experience the most profound shift in the course of our history as computers and automation take over more and more of our jobs and daily tasks. While we are (probably) far from a Hollywood version of having Robot Overlords, innovations in automation, robotics and expert systems will fundamentally re-shape the nature of work and human interactions. The time to make these conversations mainstream is now. Join us for a panel discussion with Heath Nieddu, Senior Research Analyst of Optiv Security, Ben Berry, CEO of Airship Technology Group, and Arun Joshi, CEO of Visulon, on the scope and definition of AI, innovations in drone technology, and how companies are using the Hololens and VR in business today. Each panelist will present for 5-7 minutes and field questions from the audience. Afterward, Rob Bart, founder of Forge and moderator for the series, will lead a discussion between the audience and the panelists. A limited number of free tickets are available. create Calagator::Event 1250470808 Automated Acceptance Tests using SpecFlow and Xamarin.UITest Roll back

description nil Ryan will present what he learned about using SpecFlow from Alexandra Marin’s talk at .NET Fringe, “Mobile testing for grown ups”, for anybody who missed it! Here is the description of Alexandra Marin’s “Mobile testing for grown ups” talk: "If you’re anything like me, coming on to a new project is terrifying: unknown domain, indecipherable (yes, I had autocorrect rewrite that word) tests and general panic. And I love unit tests as much as the next face-deep-in-code 24/7 developer, but that’s a limited way of testing your app and we can do better. So let’s take a swing at turning specifications into concrete, executable and easy-to-repeat behavior. The result is powerful UI acceptance testing by performing common behaviors like pressing buttons, making swipe gestures and entering text. Oh, and did I mention you can automate all this?" Doors Open at 6:00, Talk Begins at 6:30. Viewpoint is providing Pizza and Soda!

For September its going to be Gokul Surya from Nike! In his own words, here's how Gokul manages his career: "Continuously iterate to reach the pinnacle” is what comes to my mind whenever I take time to think about the future. I believe that people, processes and perspectives will help me get to where I want to be. Trusting the people, collaborating on developing the processes, and using different perspectives to solve problems along the path to develop a successful organization. Coderetreat.org is a self-organized, volunteer led organization dedicated to helping software developers help each other improve their craft. Tanya Crenshaw and Jean Richardson will be teaming up to facilitate PDXWIT's 2016 Coderetreat. The Tech Academy is donating space and providing breakfast and lunch for the event. Come along for a day of codeplay in a supportive environment and help Coderetreat follow the sun during the global celebration of software development! Here's how it works: SW developers of all sorts gather together with their machines and IDE's ready to code Conway's Game of Life for 45 minute sessions. Pairs change with every 45 minute iteration so everyone gets exposed to different problem solving strategies, and everyone learns together: newbies and master-craft persons alike. There is no expectation to finish coding Conway's Game of Life at any point during the day. The purpose is to learn coding problem solving strategies, share skills and experience pairing in a supportive environment. An over $1500 value!

Summary
We live in a world of Big Data, trying to make sense of it to deliver Business Intelligence. We have the promise of NOSQL and Applied Data Science to deliver some solutions. In dealing with today's challenges we need some new and different ways of thinking. Do we still need Conceptual models? How do they continue to benefit us? What are the limitations of relational models, and how do we overcome them? What are the best strategies for preparing and presenting data model diagrams to support meaningful conversations with our business partners? How do our data modeling tools help? How is the data warehouse environment evolving? Are we beyond dimensional models? How do we work with NOSQL tools and schema-less databases? Do these environments still need data modeling? What is a Data Lake and how do we manage it? Dr. Gordon Everest will explore these questions and provide some insight for dealing with issues surrounding the role of data modeling in the world we live in today. His presentation will provide some new strategies and approaches. His presentations are always lively and will challenge our thinking.
PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DATA MODELING – Beyond the basics, and beyond relational

ADVANCED DATA MODELING CONCEPTS AND CONSTRUCTS

NORMALIZATION – Myths. description nil #Building Security In ? **› Please RSVP via our Meetup group [HERE](https://www.meetup.com/New-Relic-FutureTalks-PDX/events/233979508/)** Everybody *wants* to write secure code, and yet it’s hard to find a dev team that truly owns application security. Instead, a small and external security team is tasked with keeping the constant and large amount of produced functionality secure. As we can see in daily headlines, this approach is not working, and is breaking down further in the face of high efficiency continuous deployment. How can we fix it? In this panel, three experts who deal with this problem on a daily basis will debate the ways dev teams can step up and build security in, touching best practices, tools, where to get started and much more. **• Guy Podjarny** CEO at Snyk *Guy (@guypod) is a cofounder at Snyk.io, focusing on securing open source code. Guy was previously CTO at Akamai and founder of Blaze.io, and worked on the first web app firewall & security code analyzer. Guy is a frequent conference speaker, the author of "Responsive & Fast”, “High Performance Images” and the upcoming “Securing Open Source Code."* **• John Steven** CTO Cigital and Codiscope *John’s expertise runs the gamut of software security—from threat modeling and architectural risk analysis to static analysis and security testing. He has led the design and development of business-critical production applications for large organizations in a range of industries. Since joining Cigital as a security researcher in 1998, John has provided strategic direction and built security groups for many multi-national corporations, including Coke, EMC, Qualcomm, Marriott and Finra. His keen interest in automation continues to keep Cigital technology at the cutting edge. Presently, he serves as internal CTO of Cigital and CTO of Codiscope. He has served as co-editor of the Building Security In department of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine, and as the leader of the Northern Virginia OWASP chapter. He speaks regularly at conferences and trade shows. Follow John on Twitter @m1splacedsoul* **• Omri Iluz** Co-founder and CEO, PerimeterX *Omri is the CEO and cofounder of PerimeterX. After spending a decade and a half building and securing web scale infrastructure at companies such as Akamai, Cotendo and iPlay, Omri decided to focus on ridding the web from Bots and other automated threats. With experience that spans everything from writing code and malware reversing to modern web architecture, Omri provides a unique point of view on the current state of affairs of web security.* ##Details **• Doors will open at 5:30 for a 30-minute networking happy half-hour!** The food, beer and drinks are provided by Bellagios and New Relic. **• The presentation will begin right at 6p.** **• NOTE: after the event**, everyone is invited to continue networking at a special happy hour opportunity, one story up at Portland City Grill. › Stay tuned for the latest developments and updates on this and upcoming events by joining our Meetup group, **New Relic FutureTalks PDX** (link above), and following us on Twitter **@newrelic**. description nil We'll have two talks this month. Making Games in Clojure(script) with the DEVS Modeling Formalism In this talk, Austin Haas will discuss why games are difficult to make and how DEVS, a popular simulation modeling formalism, can help. This talk may be relevant to anyone interested in game development, systems theory, actors, agents, or FRP. Regex derivatives: the functional pearl inside core.spec The new spec library in Clojure 1.9 uses an old but elegant method for recognizing sequences. We'll develop an implementation of this algorithm in Clojure. Bio: Russell writes Clojure at Puppet. He's into guitars and separating his functions from his data.

They go on to contribute a generic eliminator function that works for any type defined in this way.
