description nil Please join us for a night of conversation on self-tracking and monitoring where you share ideas, tools and experiments with the Portland Quantified Self community. If you are self tracking in any way – life logging, biometrics, athletic performance, mood, sleep, medical symptoms, happiness, energy, etc. – come and share your methods, results and insight. Here's our agenda: Intro and Announcements - 6:10 sharp! We'll have a round of introductions, and then Steven will give a quick primer on QS as a movement and recap some of the most interesting self-tracking projects he's seen in the past couple of months. Presentations* - 6:20 to 7:30 (Confirmed talks with more to come) -Steven - Using smell to improve flashcard performance -Mark - Update on my metric-collecting exercise chair If you have a project you can talk about, let us know when you sign up! Post-talks Social Time - 7:30 to 8 pm After some amazing presentations, we will have some time to converse with those around us. *Where our talks come from: Our talks come from you! Do you have a personal self-tracking story to share? Please let us know in your RSVP. You can let the three prime questions guide your presentation:What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn? Here are some examples from previous Quantified Self events: http://vimeo.com/groups/quantifiedself/videos/27380858 http://vimeo.com/28734230 Parking: Lots of 5-hour metered street parking and nearby parking lots (for weekdays check out 1602 SW Taylor and 1201 SW Yamhill), and free 2-hour parking north of Burnside.

A* is used in games to calculate the least-cost path for a computer character to move from one spot to another. Elm is a language similar to Haskell (but simpler) that compiles down to JavaScript, used for apps that run in web browsers.</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250472597 AgilePDX Dntn Pub Lunch: Measuring the Value of Work "Done" Roll back

description nil What tools and attempts have you used to measure the value of work delivered? A strong component of team motivation is understanding the value of the work they are doing; As well as determining ROI for the business to pursue\continue a project. This is measured differently across organizations and many teams have minimal measurements in this area, if any. Have you tried & failed to measure the value of what your team delivers? Have you had some success? Do you have a method that has proved to work across several cycles? Come share what you know, or what you'd like to understand as the agile community discussions are engaging and leave us with new ways to think about the same problem (plus ideas to try)! You know the place. You know the time. We'll be in the back. We start and end on time.

create Calagator::Event 1250472591 PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) National Code Retreat Day Roll back

description nil ***Registration through Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pdx-women-in-tech-pdxwit-national-code-retreat-day-tickets-38483100991) is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event *** Come join us for the first anniversary of PDXWIT Coderetreat! Our first Coderetreat was on last year’s Global Day of CodeRetreat, an event during which groups of coders the world over follow the sun and stay in communication via Twitter about their progress and learning throughout the day. If you have attended one of our Coderetreats in the past, please come back and help us celebrate. If you are new to Coderetreats, know that Coderetreat.org is a self-organized, volunteer-led organization dedicated to enabling software developers to help each other improve their craft and teaming skills. Software developers of all sorts gather with their machines, IDEs and the ready-to-code Conway's Game of Life. A Coderetreat facilitator assists the developers during several 45-minute sessions throughout the day. Iman Bilal, Tracie Ward, and Jean Richardson will be teaming up to facilitate this Coderetreat. Tech Academy is donating space and providing breakfast and lunch for the event. Come along for a day of codeplay in a supportive environment and help Coderetreat follow the sun during the global celebration of software development! If you were there in February, we look forward to seeing you again. If you missed that event, grab your laptop, your favorite IDE, and join us. Agenda: 8:30 AM: Doors open 9:00 AM: Introduction and orientation 5:00 PM: Event ends PDXWIT Purpose: PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women. Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.

update Calagator::Event 1250472590 Portland Accessibility and User Experience Meetup (PDXAUX) - Accessible Technology in Higher Education Roll back

description Millions of individuals interface daily with colleges and universities throughout the Northwest region, as students, employees, and members of the public. Thousands of these individuals have disabilities that impact the tools and methods they use for accessing websites and information technologies. How are colleges and universities in Portland and throughout the Northwest region handling this challenge? What strategies are they employing internally and through procurement to ensure their websites and information technologies are accessible? What can the rest of us learn from higher education's examples? At the October meetup, we will explore these questions including strategies for getting buy-in. Terrill Thompson from University of Washington, Kaela Parks from Portland Community College, Emiluz Lopez from CollegeNET and Gabriel Merrell from University of Oregon will share their strategies, stories and experiences in an informal conversation about IT accessibility in higher ed. CrowdCompass is our event host. They are graciously providing refreshments for this event! Review their accessibility information and let us know if you have questions. Lineup/Agenda: • 6:00 gather/networking • 6:30 panelists share their experience • 8:00 time for Q&A and conversation • 8-8:30 closing/networking Our panelists: Terrill Thompson - University of Washington Kaela Parks - Portland Community College Emiluz Lopez - CollegeNET Gabriel Merrell - Oregon State University See our (Meetup page](https://www.meetup.com/Portland-Accessibility-and-User-Experience-Meetup/events/243046035/) for bios on all of our presenters.
