create Calagator::Event 1250473197 Data Privacy for Activists Roll back

description nil Data privacy is important to everyone but can be felt even more keenly by those who advocate for causes that can be controversial. This workshop is to introduce foundational data privacy strategies and teach easy solutions for helping activists protect the privacy of those they engage with and themselves. Of course, you don't have to be an activist to benefit from making your digital life more secure -- all are welcome! Greg Stromire, a local security engineer and activist, has hosted variations of this workshop for over a year. He will base the content on the interests of those who attend, covering: • Why Privacy Matters • Private Messaging, Email, and Voice Communication • Securing Your Devices • Best Practices Online • Storage for Private Data Schedule: 6:00 PM: Doors 6:10 PM: Introductions and news 6:15 PM: Data privacy 7:15 PM: Q&A 7:30 PM: Wrap up and networking We'll have snacks, and there will be an opportunity for networking following the talks. We hope to see you there! By attending this TA3M meeting, you agree to follow our Code of Conduct: https://www.meetup.com/Portlands-Techno-Activism-3rd-Mondays/pages/22681732/Code_of_Conduct/ {short} Code of Conduct Portland's Techno-Activism 3rd Mondays is dedicated to providing an informative and positive experience for everyone who participates in or supports our community, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, socioeconomic status, caste, or creed. Our events are intended to educate and share information related to technology and activism, and anyone who is there for this purpose is welcome. Because we value the safety and security of our members and strive to have an inclusive community, we do not tolerate harassment of members or event participants in any form. create Calagator::Event 1250473195 Choosing Change- How to Enable a Shift to Agile Roll back

description nil Is your Agile implementation going slow, failing, or not sustaining? April Mills, author of Everyone is a Change Agent, will describe several common mistakes made in implementations and outline techniques you can use right away to get your implementation back on track. Examples of the common mistakes include: trying to force people to be Agile, keeping the goal of becoming Agile vague, and not protecting the Agile people and behaviors from the status quo. Improving your Agile implementation is more within your control than you think. April is an expert change agent and author of “Everyone is a Change Agent”. She blogs at engine-for-change.com and tweets as @engineforchange. April will have copies of her book available for $10. Feel free to stick around after her presentation and get your book signed.

create Calagator::Event 1250473194 AgilePDX Westside Cafe: Coaching Overloaded Product Owners Roll back

description nil What do you do, when your product owner has too much on her plate and seems eager to take on more? An overworked product owner likely isn't a healthy contributor. Questions can go unanswered, feedback opportunities are missed, and team safety or delivery success may take a hit. This can undermine everybody's effort to improve. So, what can you do? How can you coach them and help them maintain the sustainable pace that most helps the product and the team? Join us if you are a product owner or work with one. Have you been successful in helping the product side of the house manage their workload? Are you struggling with this situation? Have you learned the hard way how to coach in this situation? We'd love for you to join us to share your experience and discover new approaches.

create Calagator::Event 1250473189 Galois Tech Talk: New Applications of Software Synthesis: Firewall Repair and Verification of Configuration Files (Ruzica Piskac) Roll back

description nil Title: New Applications of Software Synthesis: Firewall Repair and Verification of Configuration Files Abstract: In this talk we present a systematic effort that can automatically repair firewalls, using the programming by example approach. Firewalls are widely employed to manage and control enterprise networks. Because enterprise-scale firewalls contain hundreds or thousands of policies, ensuring the correctness of firewalls – whether the policies in the firewalls meet the specifications of their administrators – is an important but challenging problem. In our approach, after an administrator observes undesired behavior in a firewall, she may provide input/output examples that comply with the intended behavior. Based on the given examples, we automatically synthesize new firewall rules for the existing firewall. This new firewall correctly handles packets specified by the examples, while maintaining the rest of the behavior of the original firewall. We also show, using verification for configuration files, how to learn specification when the given examples is actually a set of configuration files. Software failures resulting from configuration errors have become commonplace as modern software systems grow increasingly large and more complex. The lack of language constructs in configuration files, such as types and grammars, has directed the focus of a configuration file verification towards building post-failure error diagnosis tools. In this talk we describe a framework which analyzes data sets of correct configuration files and derives rules for building a language model from the given data set. The resulting language model can be used to verify new configuration files and detect errors in them. Bio: Ruzica Piskac is an assistant professor (tenure-track) at Yale, Computer Science Department. Her research interests span the areas of programming languages, software verification, automated reasoning, and code synthesis. A common thread in Ruzica's research is improving software reliability and trustworthiness using formal techniques. Ruzica has received a NSF CAREER award for her proposal, “Synthesis in a Live Programming Environment”. She proposed the concept of cooperative programming which combines a live programming environment and the programming by example paradigm.

description nil Portland Linux/Unix Group General Meeting Announcement Who: Russell Senior<br> What: How to get a Municipal Broadband network in the City of Portland<br> Where: PSU, 1930 SW 4th Ave. Room FAB 86-01 (Lower Level)<br> When: Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at 7pm<br> Why: The pursuit of technology freedom<br> Stream: http://pdxlinux.org/live How to get a Municipal Broadband network in the City of Portland As many of you know, Russell has been kind of passionate about building an open-access Internet infrastructure in Portland for the last decade or more. No privately owned network would voluntarily allow open-access, and hasn't since the DSL days (when they were required to), and the Feds, namely the FCC has been steadfast in its refusal to enforce line-sharing (essentially the same thing as open access) on infrastructure built since 1996. Many of you may have heard about the FCC action in December rescinding the relatively new Title II regulation of ISPs and the Network Neutrality rules that went with it. With the consciousness raising this event has provided, there is a new window of opportunity from the groundswell of interest to create pressure on our political systems, namely City Council in Portland OR, failing that, an initiative petition to provide a local solution. Russell will describe the problem and what a solution would look like, where the user ends up in the driver seat. Bring your Net Neutrality questions! Many will head to the Lucky Lab at 1945 NW Quimby St. after the meeting. Rideshares to the Lucky Lab available PLUG is open to everyone and does not tolerate abusive behavior on its mailing lists or at its meetings.
