create Calagator::Event 1250473358 Angular Portland March: AOT, TDD, & NativeScript! Roll back

description nil We've got three awesome 15 minute talks for you this month! **Venue and Food** This month we're hosted by the fantastic folks at Vacasa, and food this month is brought to you by Apex Systems! **Our Talks** Setting Up AOT with ngUpgrade: We all love the CLI, but in an ngUpgrade project, you can't always use it. Yet we need to be able to take both Angular and AngularJS to production. That means we need to be able to set up our Angular project and our Webpack build to use Angular's AOT compiler. In this talk, Sam Julien will show you how to do it and what pitfalls to avoid. **\_(ツ)_/¯ Works on my machine: a practical approach to TDD:** How do you know if your code works? common stigma: [“You should writes tests", "If you don't write tests from the start, you'll never get around to it”, “I never have time to write tests”]. Nathan Brenner is here to show you how he got around these hurdles. **Say Bye Bye to Hybrid apps, and Hello to NativeScript:** Ever wanted to develop native mobile apps but couldn’t find the time to learn new languages? Or, you tried hybrid app development but were not happy with the performance? NativeScript is here to offer you the best of hybrid and native development workflow. With NativeScript, you are already a Mobile app developer! You will get a development experience which is similar to the web, while still getting a native mobile app as the end result. AND you can get to market up to 5x faster than a native approach, with no compromise to performance. Shiva Prasad joins us remotely all the way from India for this exciting talk! **Our Speakers** Sam Julien ([@samjulien](http://twitter.com/samjulien)) is the founder of UpgradingAngularJS.com and a C# and JavaScript developer at Energy Trust of Oregon. He's also the co-organizer of this meetup (woot!). Nathan Brenner ([@njbrenner](http://twitter.com/njbrenner)) is a senior software engineer with lots of Angular experience. He's currently funemployed but that's subject to change. Shiva Prasad ([@MultiShiv19] (http://twitter.com/MultiShiv19)) is a Lead Software Developer at Bfit Technologies, a partner at nStudio.io, and a NativeScript Developer Expert.

create Calagator::Event 1250473348 Learn to Code | Thinkful Portland - Predict the Oscars Using Data Science Roll back

description nil <p>• What we'll do<br>The outcome of the 2017 Academy Award for Best Picture surprised us all. But, could that have been predicted?</p> <p>In this practical workshop, you'll use a dataset that contains previous Oscar winners to build a prediction model to guess the winner for Best Picture Award. You'll get an introduction to a data scientist's tools and methods, including an overview of basic machine learning concepts. Unlike last year's Oscars, our model will predict only one winner!</p> <p>No previous knowledge of data science is required. Some programming background is helpful but not required. This is a designed to be an introductory (and fun) workshop for beginners.</p> <p>If you have a laptop, make sure to bring it. Otherwise, we can pair you up with someone who has one.</p> <p>• What to bring<br>Laptop</p> <p>• Important to know<br>Space is limited! Please RSVP on Eventbrite here:<br><a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/predict-the-oscars-using-data-science-tickets-42892279964" class="linkified">https://www.eventbrite.com/e/predict-the-oscars-using-data-science-tickets-42892279964</a></p>

description nil <p>• What we'll do<br>It's been a while since we've met, but we're using Portland Startup Week as an excuse to resurrect this incredible meetup. About Coffee w/ Co-Founders: As a business owner you are faced with many challenges. You're forced to make decisions every day that could make or break your business. Coffee w/ Co-Founders is a way to network with other Entrepreneurs to allow free flowing information with the intent to collaborate and help each other. So often we're challenged and there's very little we can do to express our challenges with the people we work with or the people we care about. Think of Coffee w/ Co-Founders as your own personal support group for business owners. We're all here to help!</p> <p>• What to bring</p> <p><br>• Important to know</p>

create Calagator::Event 1250473346 Building Reusable re-frame Components w/ Ryan Neufeld Roll back

description nil Much has been said about building re-frame applications in the small, but how well do these same techniques perform building large applications? In practice, our team found traditional approaches to events and state management led to highly-coupled code that was difficult to maintain and test. In this talk we'll explore *why* this happens and some simple techniques you can use to create more re-usable re-frame code without boilerplate or any 3rd party libraries. Biography Ryan is a Clojure developer, author, and founder of Homegrown Labs (http://homegrownlabs.ca ), a consultancy and education company based in Winnipeg, Canada. Since April 2017, Ryan & Homegrown have been working with Funding Circle building rich admin applications using ClojureScript & re-frame. Beyond consulting, Ryan organizes Clojure Remote (http://clojureremote.com )–an online conference focussed on remote Clojure & ClojureScript developers. Keep an eye out for ClojureScript Days coming Summer of 2018.
