create Calagator::Event 1250460709 DorkbotPDX group show - SUSPENSION/DIS/CONNECTION Roll back

description nil <b>---~~~=== DORKBOT PDX GROUP SHOW 2011 ===~~~---</b> DorkbotPDX (http://dorkbotpdx.org) is seeking works from people doing strange things with electricity for a group gallery show opening September 1, 2011 at the Styloid Process gallery (http://styloid-process.com). The opening will be part of Portland's first Thursday art walk and will show through the month of September. Works will be curated by the gallery owner and DorkbotPDX overlords. The deadline for submissions is July 15th, 11:59pm. Primary preference will be given to works loosely classified as "electronic". Secondary preference will be given to work on the principles of: <b>DIS/CONNECTION and SUSPENSION</b>: (bastardized from Merriam Webster) <b>Connection:</b> a : causal, logical, or contextual relation, sequence, or association b : a relation of personal intimacy c : coherence, continuity d : something that connects/communicates : link/transport e : a source of contraband (as illegal drugs) <b>Suspension:</b> a : the state of being hung b : temporary removal (as from office or privileges) c : temporary withholding (as of belief or decision) d : temporary revocation of a law or rule e : a carried-over musical tone which results in momentary dissonance f : stoppage of payment of business obligations g : a rhetorical device whereby the principal idea is deferred to the end of a sentence or longer unit This is a smallish gallery, so one of the goals is to abuse the vertical space. Ceiling, shelf-mounted, and hanging works experienced from below are blisteringly encouraged. Artists should submit a brief (3-5 sentence) description of the work, dimensions, power/facilities requirements, and a 1 sentence bio or self- deprecating statement. Please provide photos, videos, and/or URLs as applicable. Please send submissions/questions to: [email protected] (503)-208-5433 and cc [email protected]

update Calagator::Event 1250460582 Helping you Solve the Rubik's Cube of Revenue Growth: Getting from $1M to $5M Roll back

description Ever try to solve a Rubik's cube? Most people can complete one side, but solving the whole puzzle is decidedly more difficult. Entrepreneurs experience the same thing when trying to solve the revenue growth puzzle. Achieving the first million is pretty straightforward, but growing revenues from $1M to $5M is complicated. You have to be thinking several steps ahead and managing several moving parts. Solving the revenue growth puzzle requires you to think of marketing, sales, staffing, training, financing, production and distribution. OEN has assembled a stellar panel of entrepreneurs who have successfully grown their companies’ revenues past the $5M mark and are willing to share their experiences, and answer your questions. Please join moderator Frank Helle, CEO of Axian, Inc. and Program Chair for OEN's CEO Roundtable, along with the following three revenue-growth experts for an informative and entertaining panel discussion. There will be plenty of interactive Q&A time regarding how to drive revenue growth from the $1M marker to the $5M marker. Chris Marsh, Pulse Health Julie Pickens, Little Busy Bodies Mike Wright, Wellpartner You can cut to profitability but not to top-line growth...learn what these experts know This panel of local entrepreneurs knows how to create long-term value for all stake holders through top-line growth. They also have succeeded recently despite the challenging access to capital and the difficult economy businesses face today. This workshop is your opportunity to quiz them on their successes, frustrations, and lessons learned that you can apply to your growing business. *NOTE - This listing says 9th, OEN listing says 7th.... update Calagator::Event 1250460671 PDX Drupal Users Group Roll back

description Here's what we've got on the agenda: <strong>1. "A Million Pageviews an Hour: Extreme Drupal Performance" presented by Aaron Longwell</strong> The Kentucky Derby is the most watched horse racing event in the world. It's frequently called "the most exciting two minutes in sports," and is nationally televised on 3 different networks and simulcast worldwide. All that excitement results in www.kentuckyderby.com, the race's official Drupal-powered web site receiving more than 1 million page views in less than an hour. Presented by Aaron Longwell, Chief Technologist at Culture Foundry, this presentation will cover the hardware, software, Drupal modifications and extensions that enabled the site to serve every one of those pages with sub-200ms response times. In particular, Aaron's talk will discuss helpful Drupal modules, Varnish, HTTP in-browser caching, load balancing, redundancy, load testing, Pressflow, Amazon Web Services, and Capistrano--and how each played a part in the Kentucky Derby site. Even small sites with little traffic can benefit from many of the techniques and technologies Aaron will be discussing. The talk will be relatively technical in nature (there will even be a bit of code) but even non-developers should learn something about the principles behind super high performance web sites. <strong>2. "Location + Maps: Making it Actually Work" presented by Katrin Silvius</strong> In her recent work, Katrin Silvius, senior web developer at One Economy, has discovered all sorts of bugs and workarounds necessary to make location and maps work well together in Drupal. Katrin will discuss some of the things she's learned from her work and we'll open up the discussion to other developers about best practices and nagging problems with implementing location and maps in Drupal. Finally, here are the meeting details: Date: Wednesday, June 8 Time: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (after the meeting, we head to <a href="http://goo.gl/maps/VpTD">Lucky Lab NW</a> at 1945 NW Quimby, for drinks and conversation!) The talk will be relatively technical in nature (there will even be a bit of code) but even non-developers should learn something about the principles behind super high performance web sites. (after the meeting, we head to <a href="https://www.luckylab.com/">Lucky Lab NW</a> at <a href="http://goo.gl/maps/VpTD">1945 NW Quimby</a>, for drinks and conversation!)

update Calagator::Event 1250460671 PDX Drupal Users Group Roll back

description We meet, work on our projects, and ask questions of our neighbors with no formal agenda. No need to RSVP, the meetings are open to all. Here's what we've got on the agenda: <strong>1. Even small sites with little traffic can benefit from many of the techniques and technologies Aaron will be discussing. update Calagator::Event 1250460694 Value-first in the nick of time: Agile Methods and Lean Program Managent Roll back

description Value-first in the nick of time: how agile methods and lean program management averted crisis to deliver the goods on a $20 million business process change. Part experience report, part expedition, this presentation will take you inside an Agile adoption nested within a project turnaround. From diagnosis through prescription, convalescence, and recovery to eventual triumph and the acceptance of a new status quo, you will hear how a century-old organization transformed its application delivery capability in the face of a crisis, growing a project team from six to 60 developers inside two months and accelerating from one release in six months to several releases every sprint. This is a must-see for anyone who has ever struggled against organizational inertia or dreamed of rapidly scaling Agile from the team level to the enterprise level to the sound of cheering business managers. Our speaker is Adam Light, Ph.D. Adam is a Management Consultant and Principal at SoTech Advisors (www.sotechadvisors.com) where he plans and executes successful projects and builds work systems that deliver on client goals. Adam has more than fifteen years’ experience designing and developing business applications from shrink-wrapped software to real-time information services in domains from natural resources management to supply chain optimization. As a planning and program management leader, Adam has worked with as few as three and as many as twenty teams, using Agile methods and critical chain techniques to turn around failing projects, revive ailing organizations, and redesign application delivery at the enterprise scale. His broad perspective and deep experience enable him to rapidly deliver return on investment from large projects. This event is free and is at our new location, Puppet Labs. It begins at 6:30 pm with pizza, sponsored by PNSQC (Many thanks to both Puppet Labs and PNSQC for supporting agile in Portland). The program starts at 7:00 pm. After the program you're invited to join us for a no-host gathering at a nearby brewpub for further discussion. description As an early stage entrepreneur looking for the first round of funding, one of the most daunting tasks may be determining the valuation of your company. In this workshop, we will cover the basics of valuing a seed or launch stage company, and answer some questions, such as: * Who sets the valuation - the company or the investor? * What does pre-money and post-money valuation mean? How do I calculate it? * How do I value my company if we don’t yet have revenues? * How do investors determine the valuation? * How have valuations changed in the economic downturn? We'll explain the terminology, demystify the math and explain some of the ways that valuation is set during the funding process. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, so come armed with your questions and be ready to participate in a lively discussion about valuing early stage companies. $30 for OEN Members; $70 for non-members.
