How Digital Tools are Reigniting Civic Engagement
Roll back

Join us for a fireside chat with DeJuana Thompson and Tristan Wilkerson of Think Rubix and Woke Vote.
The pivotal time leading up to the 2020 U.S. presidential election sparked a sense of urgency to harness technology to support organizers and equip voters of color with everything needed to amplify their voices. With the pandemic changing rules around canvassing and campaigning, innovation became even more critical.
Woke Vote and Work & Co partnered to launch a new site and all-in-one digital tool designed to help organizers activate people and streamline the actual process of voting for users.
Just over a year after launch, Work & Co Managing Director Tyesha Snow will join Thompson and Wilkerson to explore how the teams worked together to bring Woke Vote to life, and debate technology’s role in social innovation. They’ll also shed light on new initiatives Think Rubix is spearheading through their engagement studio to help Black communities increase civic engagement, and ultimately revamp political landscapes through a lens of equity. |

We'll run this meetup with the leancoffee.org method. Our community enjoys sharing code projects, however, the topics can be about any project you want to share.
If you don't have a project, don't worry, I have a couple of projects to get us started.
Stay inspired!

**Registration through Zoom is required to gain entry to this virtual event**
Can you believe we made it through another pandemic year? Thanks for sticking with us and standing up for one other. This December marks TEN YEARS since the co-founders of PDXWIT decided they were going to build this incredible community! Let’s celebrate this milestone together.
Join PDXWIT and host Alchemy Code Lab as we celebrate a decade of changemaking.

Our audience will get to choose the big winner in real time!
There will be a special edition Recruiter Roll Call where you can learn about some open positions throughout Portland and beyond. Chat with these recruiters and hiring managers in our Virtual Job Seekers Lounge using <a href="http://pdxwit.org/slack">Slack</a> after the event.
We will have ASL interpretation and closed captioning throughout the event.
* You will have the option to provide your address at registration so we can send you something cool ahead of the event in the mail.

At our November Native Americans in Tech mixer, we’re creating a decolonized space for Indigenous folks who work in tech or would like to. In the spirit of storytelling, we would like to encourage the community to share some 3 minute talks on recent projects, life events or challenges. This will be an informal, virtual meetup for attendees to nurture existing relationships and build new ones.
**This community will center the experiences of Indigenous people of North America.** While this group is for folks that have a grounding in their Native American identities, we understand that Indigenous folks exist from all points of the globe and welcome you as well. We recognize the varied experiences of indigeneity for those who have had barriers in reclaiming their culture.
This event will be facilitated by Erin Grace (Chetco, Tututni) and also supported by Court Morse (Chippewa, Ojibwe, Anishinaabeg).
This ongoing series is supported by <a href="https://techtownportland.com/">Tech Town</a> powered by Prosper Portland.
We will have ASL interpretation and live closed captioning throughout.

**Registration through <a href="https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_wAzlQet2RdC6jWquPu5GLA">Zoom</a> is required to gain entry to this virtual event**
PDXWIT Happy Hour is back with our November host Opus Interactive!
We’ve lined up two dynamic lightning speakers for this lunch hour event. [Amanda Squiemphen-Yazzie](https://www.linkedin.com/in/amanda-squiemphen-yazzie-60082070/), a proud Warm Springs, Navajo, Wasco, and Yakama woman, and local consultant, will touch on land acknowledgments and what they mean to her. [Grace Andrews](https://www.linkedin.com/in/graceandrews/), a technical storyteller with a cross-cultural focus, will weave a tale of tech intersecting with life.
As always, recruiters will share open positions throughout Portland and beyond during our Recruiter Roll Call. Chat with these recruiters and hiring managers in our Virtual Job Seekers Lounge using Slack after the event.
For those of you looking to network with the community, we save the last 15 minutes of each event (12:45 pm - 1 pm PT) for optional on-camera discussion, but you don’t have to wait until then to meet someone new. Get involved in the chat throughout the event as well.
We will have ASL interpretation and closed captioning throughout. Please get in touch with any additional accessibility needs you may have.
*You will have the option to provide your address at registration so we can send you something cool ahead of the event in the mail.*
Hope to see you there! |

Portland Linux/Unix Group: Linux on RISC-V

Portland Linux/Unix Group General Meeting Announcement
Who: Drew Fustini<br>
What: Linux on RISC-V<br>
Where: https://meet.jit.si/pdxlinux<br>
When: Thursday, November 4th, 2021 at 7pm<br>
Why: The pursuit of technology freedom
This talk will explore the future of Linux on RISC-V, an open
instruction set (ISA). I will introduce the open source FPGA ecosystem
including Migen and LiteX, and explain how they make it possible to
quickly implement SoC designs in an FPGA capable of running Linux on a
RISC-V. I will also look at the current RISC-V SoC's that are capable
of running Linux and available dev boards. I will also talk about how
support in Linux for RISC-V is continuing to evolve such as the
introduction of KVM RISC-V support and look at RISC-V hardware support
that is in the process of being upstreamed. I will describe how the
RISC-V Platform Specification Task Group is trying to standardize boot
and runtime requirements with the creation of the Linux-2022
specification.
About Drew
Drew Fustini is a Linux developer at BayLibre and serves as an
ambassador for RISC-V International. He sits on the board of
directors for the BeagleBoard.org Foundation and the Open Source
Hardware Association (OSHWA). When not hacking on Linux, Drew enjoys
designing open source hardware projects in KiCad that are fabricated
in purple and gold by OSH Park.
PLUG is open to everyone and does not tolerate abusive behavior on its mailing lists or at its meetings. |

Pitch Club
Roll back
| description |

Pitch Club is an event where entrepreneurs learn the criteria and methods used by real investors to evaluate their venture as a potential investment. This is done by recreating a typical investor meeting where a few companies pitch and receive feedback from TiE Oregon Charter Members. These meetings follow the same basic agenda of an investor meeting with three sections: the pitch, Q&A, and investor discussion & decision..
Who facilitates Pitch Club?
Pitch Club is organized by Kari Naone, TiE Oregon Executive Director and led by Tom Kingsley, a TiE Charter Member who is an investor and successful entrepreneur.
What to expect?
Each attendee who intends to pitch should prepare a five minute pitch presentation. (This can include a power point projection that will be presented from your computer.) Directly after pitching a five-minute Q&A will take place, followed by a five-minute Investor Discussion & Decision).
Those who attend pitch club will walk away with a better understanding of what investors look for in a pitch and how to answer the questions possible investor will ask. In addition, each presenter will receive a digital copy of their pitch and feedback from their peers and TiE Charter Members. |
