description nil Fedora has been experimenting with immutable, OSTree-based versions (https://fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops1) as a new paradigm for the Linux desktop, focused more on containers and Flatpaks instead of traditional package management. What does any of this jargon mean, and how did they replace the package manager? I'll explain what this is all about, from the underlying technology up to how I use this for taking the headaches out of managing my developer workstation. Bio: Robert Detjens has been hands-on with Linux ever since re-flashing his high school Chromebook. Through college, he discovered a love for sysadmin and cybersecurity in OSU's LUG, Security Club, and Open Source Lab. These days, Robert is a CloudOps Engineer for The Linux Foundation and keeps a homelab full of old servers at home to experiment with.
