    Join us for lunch with Al Vermeulen the former CTO of Amazon and Rogue Wave

    Al Vermeulen the former Chief Technology Officer of Amazon.com and Rogue Wave Software will be the guest speaker at Portland Startup Founder 101, July 23rd from 12:00 � 1:30, at the Willamette University Center in Portland’s pearl district.     Al Vermeulen was previously the Chief Technology officer of Amazon.com, where he is still active today, and was involved with the development of Amazon's cloud based systems including AWS and S3. Prior to Amazon he was CTO of Rogue Wave software which had a successful public offering on NASDAQ in 1996. Al also co-wrote the book "The Elements of Java Style" and helped pioneer C++.

    In addition, Robert Wiltbank, PhD. will be helping guide the discussion. Dr. Wiltbank is the author of Catalyst: How You Can Become an Extraordinary Growth Leader, and Effectual Entrepreneurship a textbook used in over 140 universities to teach hands on entrepreneurship. Dr. Wiltbank is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Willamette University MBA and a Partner with Montlake Capital, a Seattle based venture capital fund.

    Portland Ten Skill Development Workshop

    We are pleased announce the kickoff the summer round of the Skill Development Workshop Series. We have talented and seasoned professionals on board to instruct each of the 24 different workshops being offered this summer and we are looking forward to another excellent series. Workshops will be held at the Willamette University Portland Center (1120 NW Couch, suite 450) every Tuesday from 3-5pm and every Friday from 4-6pm starting June 8 and finishing Friday, August 27.

    Passes for the workshops go on sale today and can be purchase at the door before each workshop.     6-7 pm: 16 Things That Indicate You're An Entrepreneur Who "Gets It"

      How do investors and other seasoned professionals in the startup and business world evaluate you during and after a meeting? As a founder, mastering the qualities of an entrepreneur who "gets it" helps attract resources and connections, and makes the process of bootstrapping a new venture, a little bit easier. 
    
      Carolynn Duncan, director of Portland Ten, and Rob Wiltbank, partner at Buerk Dale Victor venture fund, and associate professor at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University, will present "16 Things That Indicate You're An Entrepreneur Who Gets It", both from the entrepreneur- and investor points of view.

      Come get an inside look at Portland Ten! Hear from our founders-- about their projects, what they've learned during their time in the program, and what's next as they work toward the goal of $1MM in revenue each, by October 2010. 
    
      Learn what's in the works for our second round of Portland Ten,  beginning June 8, as well as community outreach projects on queue for the summer, designed to strengthen Portland's early stage founder, investment, and tech communities.
