Each year, in conjunction with the conference, WebVisions honors the most visionary, daring, and curious talent on the web by awarding them with a miniature robot. We wanted to make this award show different in every way, other than the winners receiving an award part.

This year, we have a comedian for a host, a killer DJ to supply the beat, and presentation karaoke to kick it off.

An 'A-list' group of robot lovin' luminaries will judge the awards, including typography icon Roger Black, Mark Frauenfelder of MAKE Magazine and BoingBoing.net, Merlin Mann of 43folders.com, Molly Holzschlag of Molly.com, Renny Gleeson of Weiden+Kennedy, Armin Vit of UnderConsideration, Scott Porad of LOLCATS and many others.

Darya Rose, Ph.D is the author of Foodist, Using Real Food and Real Science to Lose Weight Without Dieting. She’ll be signing books on Saturday at Kiva Tea Spa.

As luck would have it, her husband Kevin Rose is speaking at WebVisions, this week. You may know Kevin from such hits as Digg on which he worked with Portland’s Joe Stump, Revision3, Pownce, and Milk. Well, and if you’re as old as me, ZDTV/TechTV.

Anyway, he’ll be at the book signing to hang out, as well.

Don’t look now, but your life depends on user experience design. Smartphones lead us around by the hand, we strap computers to body parts like it’s going out of style, and autonomous cars are already on the road. Thankfully, Mark Wyner is determined to humanize those experiences. As a user experience designer, Mark has architected software for the US Army, Nike, Intel, Chrysler, and more. He has eloquently addressed the need for interfaces we understand and trust, both in writing and as a speaker at events like Webvisions.
