The Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS) is a volunteer group working on open source/open hardware amateur rockets. We build everything from the ground up, including rocket airframes, avionics hardware, Linux flight computer software, and communications systems.

Our current focus is testing a new airframe and building a new avionics system. We hope to launch with airframe only this spring/summer in eastern Oregon, and launch with the full avionics stack at BALLS 18 in the Blackrock Desert of Nevada on October 2-4. http://www.balls17.com/

PSAS meets every Tuesday in the Computer Science lounge area of the Fourth Avenue Building. Enter at through the glass doors at the main entrance at SW 4th and SW Hall. Walk up to the guard station in front of you, then turn left and walk down the hallway. Continue past the PGE office (on your left) and the Microsoft Research lab (on your right), until you see a wall in front of you. Turn right and walk through the glass double doors to the CS lounge area. There will be wooden tables and white boards.

Want to get involved? Just show up! Our meetings are informal and friendly. PSAS is an open source project and we welcome any help we can get! At our meetings we discuss our current status and break out into small groups to work on projects ranging from writing sensor firmware to designing rocket structures.

Just want to know what we are up to? Come to one of our meetings just to chat, and don't forget we have a launch scheduled for June 27th in Eastern Oregon.

Portland's premier rocket club is scheduling a public rocket launch in the Oregon high desert.

This is the fourth launch of our third generation rocket. We expect to reach about 14,000 feet and to break the sound barrier! It's a 12 foot tall aluminum and fiberglass rocket that burns almost 15 pounds of fuel! If you've never seen a large(ish) rocket launch this could be your chance!

This will be very similar to our last launch in October, but with new flight computer electronics.

Brothers is a long way from anywhere, we come in on Saturday and camp. You're welcome to join us. For the less adventurous (there are no amenities, bring your own water and food) you can stay in Bend and drive in -- it's about 45 minutes -- on Sunday morning.

We are the Portland State Aerospace Society (PSAS), an interdisciplinary, student-led group at Portland State University, that built Oregon’s first and second satellite, both which are in orbit. PSAS works closely with students, non-profit organizations, companies, and schools both in and outside of Oregon to also promote STEAM education, one of which is our Pacific Northwest Aerospace Expo (PNWAE).

The PNWAE is a yearly event held by PSAS at Portland State University since 2019. What was once a small, intimate gathering of local aerospace industry professionals and enthusiasts has become better than ever with remarks from Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley in previous years. We've also had esteemed guest speakers from NASA, John Hopkins APL and other instructions join us for remarkable talks.

Although we are a hybrid event, this year we are having in-person booths, to which other universities, colleges, and science organizations such as Oregon State University, OES Aerospace, etc. are coming to table and participate.
