We are a new community of Portland Front-end Engineers and Designers, gathering monthly to talk about the things that move us (chiefly among them, Sass).

We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month, 6pm at Puppet Labs.

Drupal frontend devs, have you ever experienced frustration with Drupal's theming layer? Have you fought epic battles with theme functions or render arrays just to get that one snippet of crucial markup how you need it? Does template.php make you want to cry in a corner?

Jay Mallison and Mike Katsufrakis from Live Axle will tell us all about their adventures in creating a #NearlyHeadlessDrupal site where they are decoupling Drupal's excellent content management abilities from it's less-than-ideal frontend using JSON output and Angular.js.

This month Erik Bladwin will be presenting on Gulp! For those of you who don't know, Gulp is a task/build manager best used for automation. Praised by many as easier to use than Grunt with all of the same benefits. Gulp can be used to easily; minify and/or uglify your code, refresh your browser when files have changed, and so much more. If you enjoy automation, and you haven't heard about or used Gulp, this meet-up is for you!

The Devsigner 2015 Conference provides a time and place for designers and coders to gather, exchange ideas, learn from one another, broaden skill-sets, and interact with the local design community. Sessions will range from non-tech subjects (e.g. architecture) to highly technical implementation. We expect a full house of talented, top-notch professionals and are excited to be one of the first events held in the newly renovated Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design in Old Town Portland.

This month's Portland Drupal User Group will be next Wednesday, May 10th from 6pm to 8:30pm at Acquia (1120 NW Couch St. Suite 630 Portland, OR 97209).

Food and beverages are hosted by Acquia. We're mixing it up this month. Acquia is providing taco bar catered by Los Gorditos, which is a Mexican restaurant nearby that has vegan/gluten free options. Come at 6pm for food and socializing, and get to know your local Drupal community in a casual welcoming environment.

The presentation will start at about 6:30pm.

Welcome to the PDXNode Hack Night!

What is a PDXNode Hack Night?

PDXNode Hack Nights are your opportunity to enjoy a low-pressure JavaScript-centric environment where you shouldn't feel like you're supposed to do anything. First and foremost–just come and enjoy yourself. The night is yours: hang, hack, learn, or do whatever you’re interested in doing. 🙌

Depending on the size and interests of our attending group, we have various paths the night could go, and may or may not attempt some of the following:

Map Ctrl-H into Hackerspace Regions

The hackerspace will be mapped into 'regions', and you can feel free to gravitate towards whichever one suits your interest!

• A place for beginners who want to get going with node for the first time. • A place for people who want to work on their own projects (eg. projects you want to do outside of work, but need to find the time). • A place for people to just hang out and connect. • A place for people to work on projects in groups!

'Unconference'-style Team Hacks

For team-hackers, we'll have a board up and sticky-notes available available at the beginning of the night. Anyone can feel free to write the name and/or description of something they'd like to hack on with other people–and others who're interested can feel free to go to that region and join in!

End of Night Show and Tell

There will be a list available to write your name, or team's name down on to give a quick show and tell of your projects at the end of the night. We're pumped to see what you've been working on!
