ThursdayJun 28 2018Epicodus Alumni MeetUp: Debugging & Worksource–
Phase25:30 Meet&Greet + Eat
6:00 Hannah Neal: Worksource You’re not alone. Worksource Portland Metro has a lot of services for job-seekers, and especially for those seeking to switch into a career in tech. Hannah will give a mini-talk/overview of what’s available.
6:20 Aaron Krause: Debugging in JS To say debugging is a crucial skill would be an obvious understatement. Aaron is going to talk about (front-end) debugging philosophy. Not philosophy like if an object falls in the woods and nobody has the keys, does it even have a value, but more like How to know what you don’t even know you don’t know.
7:00 Hang out/Network/Maybe form a team to code stuff that will blow everyone away and the rest of us can say we were there when you came up with it.

ThursdayJun 18 2015Free workshop: How to give great presentations (a Devsigner sneak-peek)–
Phase2On Thursday evening, Devsigner presenter Kristen Gallagher will be giving a special workshop for fellow Devsigner presenters -- and it's open to the public.
The workshop is free.
If you're new to speaking -- or just want to brush up on your skills -- please join us!
Talks aren't fun. Panels aren't fun. Conference talks usually suck for many reasons, but they mostly suck because no one is learning anything and everyone is just staring blankly at the talker. It doesn't have to be this way... it doesn't have to hurt. You’re about to give a talk - a talk that really should be awesome. Come hang out and get your hands dirty with making conference talks that are actually awesome. This talk won't hurt at all - all you have to do is teach, don't talk.
In person: Thursday, June 18, 6:00 PM at Phase2, 514 NW 11th Avenue, Suite 203, Portland, OR
Online: We'll be livestreaming the workshop as well. Join us through Google Hangouts at 6:00 PM
Takeaways:
- get concrete tools to set up your presentations to be as awesome as possible
- learn how to be yourself while talking
- learn how to create talks that people remember
Kristen Gallagher is the founder of Edify, a consultancy that designs and builds learning experiences that people actually learn from and like. She brings over eight years of instructional design, alternative learning environment experience, event management, business development, and nonprofit education experience to Edify. Recently, her focus has been on building educational experiences that empower people, especially young women and small business owners.
Gallagher’s substantial experience in museum educational programming, facilitation, volunteer management, community organizing, strategic planning, exhibition design and curatorial work, and program management informs her systems-thinking approach to business problem solving.
You need not RSVP to attend.
The Devsigner Conference features sessions and workshops focusing on frontend web design and development techniques, tips and tools. We also aim to inspire our technically inclined creative community with amazing session topics that bridge the gap between art and code. Join us June 27-28th in Portland, Oregon for the second annual Devsigner!

Praised by many as easier to use than Grunt with all of the same benefits. Gulp can be used to easily; minify and/or uglify your code, refresh your browser when files have changed, and so much more. If you enjoy automation, and you haven't heard about or used Gulp, this meet-up is for you!
