CivicApps Ideas is a two-hour discussion of ideas and datasets between data providers and citizens. As a precursor to the CiviCode Day Event, scheduled one week later at Open Source Bridge, this meeting is your chance to initiate the discussion surrounding your project ideas and data needs with others.

CiviCode Day will be co-located with the Hacker Lounge of Open Source Bridge at the Portland Art Museum, in the Sunken Ballroom of the Mark Building. An un-conference styled event, kicked off with a keynote address by our Mayor, Sam Adams, followed by brief introductions of project ideas in the morning, then breaking out into groups for the remainder of the day for a "hack-a-thon" with your peers. The last hour or so will be reserved for a show-and-tell of our work.

Who should attend?

Ruby, Python, PHP, web developers, coders and anyone who has a passion to code, hack or kluge applications that will free (or otherwise enhance) the accessibility and usefulness of government-shared data.

Although the sprint takes place On Oct 3rd after CyborgCamp Portland, you don't have to be attending the conference to join us!

What's going to happen?

There will be organizers on-site to help get things rolling. At 5:30pm, each app will be evaluated by the Hackathon Partners and prizes will be awarded to those teams or individuals that develop the best applications in the 8 hour. Participants need not show up right at 8:30am, but those who do will have the most time to code!

Partners are companies and organizations that provide tools or services that can enhance open government apps. They're also providing the prizes and will be choosing the winners.

The three top projects will be automatically entered into the Webvisionary Awards in the Mobile Category.
