Description

Join us to talk about civic issues and work on civic tech projects for a better Portland! Bring projects, ideas, designs, laptops, data, and friends.

Please let us know if you're interested in giving a lightning talk! The usual format is 5 minutes with an optional extra 2 for questions. The subject should be related to local government & civic technology. Please avoid jargon and try to be novice-friendly!

Schedule:

6:00-6:20 -- Participants arrive and socialize.
~6:15 -- Pizza arrives.
6:20-6:30 -- Introductions & announcements.
6:30-7:30 -- Presentations!
~7:30+ -- Hacking! Project teams break out to work. New participants can join teams, circulate, form discussion groups, or seek out organizers for orientation.

Code for Portland has a Code of Conduct! Please always be respectful and help us keep our events welcoming, positive, productive environments for everyone.

Please RSVP so that we know how much pizza we'll need!

Civic Heroes of all types welcome! This event is for coders and non-coders alike -- as long as you're interested in making government more transparent and building interesting things for our city, you're more than welcome!

Bring a laptop if you intend on getting some hands-on hacking done (it’s ok if you can’t but it definitely helps to have one).

There will be pizza! We'll be getting some 'za from Hot Lips, so there will be vegan and vegetarian options.

If you have something you'd like to work on or are excited about, please let us know via the meetup or at the hack night itself. We are always looking for new projects. Our volunteers, ideas, and energy come from the community.
