description We have some interesting content lined up this month: Robert Dodier, a developer and project administrator on the Maxima project, has offered to give us a talk on it. Maxima is a computer algebra system written in Common Lisp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxima_(software) Also, time permitting, we'll hear about Haskell and Clojure versions of small command-line programs, such as one for parsing and displaying data from a weather API. See the mailing list for details on this month's agenda. Attendance is limited at this venue. RSVP via the Meetup group. ABOUT THE GROUP: Join programmers, researchers and enthusiasts to discuss functional programming. pdxfunc is a study/user group exploring the world of functional programming, based in Portland, Oregon. The group welcomes programmers interested in all functional languages, including Haskell, Erlang, OCaml, Lisp, Clojure, Scala, Oz, Agda, Idris, and others. Do AI In C Alex Randolph's wonderful game Ricochet Robot (Rasende Roboter) depends on a player's ability to quickly find a path through a large maze. In this talk, I describe the game, and then describe my solution to the game (the first solution I am aware of): a table that allows instant lookup of the solution to any given game position. The table is almost 1 TB uncompressed, and required around 30 CPU-days to generate. This application is a good demonstration of why and how much AI is still done in C. I will show some techniques for clean yet highly efficient coding, demonstrate some infrastructure building and use, and discuss tradeoffs between memory use, speed optimization and easily verifiable correctness. --- Bart Massey is a 15th year Assoc. Interstate, Portland, OR 97217 Sunday, May 31, 2014 1-5pm While having a single teacher and many students helps get ideas and skills out to the community, sometimes it is more fun to have some chaos. So instead of one to many, we'll have many to many. Bring a project or collaborate on someone else's project. We provide space and power. You bring tools and projects. Ask fellow dorks for help and offer help to others. RSVP by replying to this page and telling folks what you'll be working on!
