    Entangled Thinking: Conversations with Machines.

    CETI @ PSU

    An AI Institute

Led by Ameeta Agarwal, Richard Coffey, Douglas Hanes, Martin Smith, Matthew Sottile, Peter Vickery

Part conversation with experts, part unconference, and part hands-on experimentation, we hope you come away with a fluency, confidence, and understanding to engage further (critically and creatively) with this rapidly evolving and increasingly prevalent technology, and find a community to continue this dialogue.

Learn more about the current state and future of the thing called “AI” at the moment. What it is and isn’t, what’s real and what’s hype; what can it do and what are its limitations; What are applications and implications. What are potential avenues where it can do amazing things? What does it mean for the future of learning, work, and innovation? And should we worry?

This introductory convening — a collaborative conversation and experiential learning — will lead to more advanced skill-building and topically-focussed workshops, hackathon, and an unconference and symposium later in the fall and winter.

Creating Interactive Objects and Experiences: Intro to Arduino

    CETI @ PSU

An introductory workshop on how to use arduinos in interactive art. We will approach how to design a project, break it down into parts, make block diagrams, how various sensors work and how to work with them, and options for output. We will go over how to setup and wire an arduino, and how to turn your block diagrams into basic processing code. The point of this workshop is for artists to demystify microcontrollers, and how to use them practically, and how to design a project to be implemented simply and reliably.

We are offering the workshop for just the(partial) cost of materials and waiving all other costs.

    Prerequisite: none

Required Materials: We will provide an arduino and needed materials for you to take away as well as all needed tools to use in the lab. The ticket cost includes materials

    EMF Explorer Badge Workshop

    CETI @ PSU

The EMF Explorer Badge is an electromagnetic frequency sensing circuit that lets you listed to the world of hidden electromagnetic frequencies around you.

This workshop will involve building the EMF circuit on a breadboard and experimenting with different values. Then, there is a chance to build your own EMF Explorer kit and join us on a sound exploration walkabout.

The completed PCB can also be worn as a badge on a lanyard, used to illuminate yourself at night, and be ready to sniff out hidden EMF signals with the use of headphones. No previous electronics experience is required to appreciate and use this badge, and it’s a great way to learn more about your world by exploring the different properties of our surroundings. The kit requires soldering and runs on two AAA batteries.
