ThursdayJul 19 2012Your Future in the Cloud - Come for the Predictions, Stay for the Drinks
It's no secret that the cloud is growing - and fast. But where is it going in such a hurry? What can we expect (and prepare ourselves for) in the years to come? Join us on Thursday evening (7/19) on the gorgeous Wieden + Kennedy rooftop for drinks, networking and a special discussion on the future of the cloud. The short discussion will be led by cloud evangelists Ben Kepes (@benkepes) and Krishnan Subramanian (@Krishnan), and moderated by TechCrunch's enterprise reporter, Alex Williams (@alexwilliams). From Hobbits to heterogeneous infrastructure, we'll take a look at where the cloud is going and what it will look like when it gets there. Stick around after the talk, mingle, and catch the breathtaking Portland sunset like you've never seen it before.

TuesdayApr 10 2012Quantified Self Show & Tell
Please join us for a night of conversation on self tracking and monitoring where you share ideas, tools and experiments with the Portland Quantified Self community. Gary Wolf, the co-founder of Quantified Self and Ernesto Ramirez, Community Organizer for Quantified Self, are also joining us for this evening.
If you are self tracking in any way --- life logging, biometrics, athletic performance, mood, sleep, medical symptoms, happiness, energy etc... come and share your methods, results and insight.
6 - 7 PM Social Hour and Networking.
Do you wonder what you could discover or change about yourself if you had the right idea, tools or data? Are you curious about what others are tracking? Meet like-minded people and share your experiments even if you don't feel like getting up and talking about it in front of everyone.
7 - 8:30 pm QS SHOW & TELL TALKS
Talk about your personal self-tracking story! Please let us know in your RSVP if you would like to give a talk!
You can let the three prime questions guide your presentation: What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn?
Here are some examples from previous Quantified Self events:

NOTE: Please RSVP using the link below.
Recently the Portland Development Commission conducted a web-based interview to explore ways to increase the competitive advantages of our software industry. We would like to invite you to a meeting to discuss the results of this interview.
When: Wednesday, May 26th from 4:30 to 6:30 Where: Wieden + Kennedy (224 Northwest 13th Avenue, Portland OR 97209-2977)
The web-based interview revealed 4 critical areas that are impacting the success of our region's software professionals.
- Education
- Investment
- Political Engagement
- Taxes & Fees
The goal of the meeting will be to vet the ideas shared in this dialog and brainstorm other ways for the PDC to help address these issues.
Based on the results of this meeting, we will go out to the larger community with a second web-based interview to make sure that we're giving the PDC advice that reflects the entire region.

MondayJun 30 2008PDX Lunch 2.0v4
- REVISED FORMAT *
On Monday June 30th, the PDX Tech/Tweeple community is cordially invited to join 50-100 W+K employees for a "blind date meets grade school birthday party" ad/tech extravaganza. It's going to be a fun, it's going to be quirky, and it's going to rock RockBand style (literally).
In order to get the most out of this event, we ask that those interested in a little extra fun swing by the W+K lobby on June 16th (next Monday) between 6-9pm to pick up an event package that will contain information about your Lunch 2.0v4 "date" . You DO NOT have to have an event package to attend, but it should be worth your time/effort should you choose to participate. (No worries, you will not be tied to your "date" for the duration of the event, only a brief introduction and escort to the lunch location.) Also, those who cannot make it on the 16th are welcome to ask a friend to pick up a package for them, or have it mailed directly by sending an address to gaia dot brown at wk dot com.
Thanks to those who have voiced concerns. Hopefully these changes will help ensure that all who wish to attend have a chance to do so. And, speaking of attendance, please register here on Upcoming so we get a general head-count and can adjust accordingly.
You guys totally rock and we've got a lot of W+Kers who are looking forward to meeting you!
Questions? E-mail gaia dot brown at wk dot com or find @gaeyia on Twitter.
