I will not contradict the fact that 2D laser SLAM has reached a maturity that has allowed it to break out of the lab into commercial applications. In this presentation, I will present my experience testing our SLAM algorithm on commercial projects or how our clients are pushing the limit of our algorithms and how multiples robots are now required to map large, complex structures. The multibillion-dollar investment plan includes projects that will address customers’ increasing electric energy use, improve system reliability and deliver wind and other renewable generation resources to more customers throughout PacifiCorp’s six-state service area and the Western United States. Biography: Darrell Gerrard is vice president transmission system planning at PacifiCorp. He was appointed to this position in May 2007 and is responsible for the significant planning, budgeting and delivery of the company’s major transmission efforts. He is the primary technical interface with external transmission parties leading the compliance with the new NERC reliability standards. Additionally, he manages the company’s transmission planning activities for existing transmission assets. The Portland chapter of PES meetings will be held every third Tuesday of the month. description nil → presenter: Mark Jones abstract: Developers of systems software must often deal with low-level and performance-critical details that are hard to address in high-level programming languages. As a result, much of the systems software that is produced today is written in languages like C and assembly code, without the benefit of more expressive type systems or other features from modern functional programming languages that could help to increase programmer productivity or software quality. In this talk, we present an update on the status of Habit, a dialect of Haskell that we are designing, as part of the HASP project at PSU, to meet the needs of high assurance systems programming. Among other features, Habit provides: mechanisms for fine control over representation of bit-level and memory-based data structures; strong support for both functional and imperative programming; and a flexible type system that allows precise characterization of size and bound information via type level naturals, as well as termination properties resulting from the use of unpointed types.

Pacemaker is currently the de facto open-source cluster resource manager (CRM) for Linux HA clustering. With it, nodes and services can be monitored and managed to ensure maximum uptime in the face of the most severe service and hardware level failures. Combining the two allows admins to %99.999 uptime at a fraction of the price of proprietary alternatives. In LINBIT's second PLUG Advance Topics installment, Adam Gandelman will give a more in-depth view of DRBD and Pacemaker and demonstrate how they work closely together to keep applications running and consistent. Leif Warner will also be showing an application he's been developing which uses the Step web framework (a workalike of the the Sinatra framework in Ruby). This app uses Simple Build Tool, Scardf, Jena, TDB, RDF/OWL, graphs and federated queries and is intended to provide an "open source community family tree" of the local Portland-area music scene. If you have a project or some code you'd like to share (for review or just to look at how you solved an interesting problem) please bring it along. description nil → Andrew Hay: Making a Mockery of .NET Andrew Hay is a developer, speaker, author, dad, husband and Chief Belly Scratcher of the family dog. He started over 15 years ago by supporting mainframe assembly language programs which exceeded his own age. A few years after this initial shock treatment, he hooked his wagon to something called Active Server Pages and has been riding the gravy train on the Microsoft platform ever since. Andrew has been an active member of PADNUG since moving from Chicago to Portland in 2002 and he currently works as a developer at Vertigo Software, Inc. TOPIC: Making a Mockery of .NET In a return to showing some good ol' code in Visual Studio, Andrew will present a blend of unit testing topics. First, a quick level-set with a sampling of seasoned and fresh unit test frameworks.
