Announcing a new Meetup for Content Strategy PDX!
What: End of Summer Social Meeting
When: Thursday, September 2, 2010 6:00 PM
Where: Vendetta
4306 N Williams Ave
Portland, OR 97217
(503) 288-1085
We hope you all have had a great summer. Jim and I have been busy planning and designing some great events for the fall and we can't wait to share them with you.
Our next meeting is an informal and more social meetup to hear the fall line-up, catch up with everyone since June and eat nachos and have a few drinks.
Vendetta has a fabulous, spacious patio and a small covered area if it rains. But if it is wet outside and we have a turnout like we've had these past few meetings, we'll bring it inside.
IMPORTANT: Vendetta doesn't have a name on the building. I know. Bad content strategy, huh? It's right on the corner of N. Skidmore &Williams in a low-slung, nondescript building. Parking on the street is plentiful.
RSVP to this Meetup:

Tour-based Testing: The Hacker's Landmark Tour
Roll back
description |
Presented by the Quality Assurance Forum
Growing application complexity, coupled with the exploding increase in application surface area, has resulted in new quality challenges for testers. Some test teams are adopting a tour-based testing methodology because itâs incredibly good at breaking down testing into manageable chunks. However, hackers are paying close attention to systems and developing new targeted attacks to stay one step ahead.
Rafal Los takes you inside the hackerâs world, identifying the landmarks hackers target within applications and showing you how to identify the defects they seek out.
Learn what "landmarksâ are, how to identify them from functional specifications, and how to tailor negative testing strategies to different landmark categories. Test teams, already choked for time and resources and now saddled with security testing, will learn how to pinpoint the defect - from the mountains of vulnerabilities often uncovered in security testing - that could compromise the entire application.
Meet the Speaker: Rafal Los, Hewlett-Packard
Rafal Los, Web Application Security SME with Hewlett-Packard's Application Security Center (ASC), is a 10+ industry veteran who has worked in a variety of security positions - from consultant to Information Security Officer in the Fortune 100 - within some of the most demanding business environments.
Rafalâs unique blend of technical expertise and business knowledge enable him to teach audiences about security techniques, programs and processes that they can both understand strategically, and realistically apply. He has extensive experience in security testing, risk analysis and management, penetration testing and architecture and policy. Rafal is an accomplished writer maintaining 2 popular blogs with numerous appearances in the mainstream media and niche sites such as Slashdot. Previous successes include building and implementing a successful web application security program for one of the largest and most diverse companies in the world.

Come join fellow Scala hackers and enthusiasts. The guest speaker this time will be Peat Bakke, who will be speaking about some of his experiences building a service with Scala. Or in his words:
Scala, Circumflex, and MongoDB
Or, why writing everything from scratch is a great way to learn a language, but a terrible way to be productive.
This is about an ongoing Scala project -- a part of the Capacity product planning and resource management system. We'll be looking at a few parts of the system, a homebrew ORM for MongoDB, and the guts behind the scenes that handles the calculations, and the Circumflex-based JSON web service.
The goal of building these from scratch was to learn, and it continues to be an experiment, so I'm looking forward to everyone's feedback on how to make it better! |
