update Calagator::Event 1250461842 Own Collective Agency: a weekly civics meeting Roll back

description This is kind of a weekly Agile meeting: what's happened, what are we working on, what's blocking us from moving forward that we'd like support or advice on? It focuses on "Collective Agency" overall, and also on people here working on their own thing. "Collective Agency" is a cooperative group in the form of an unincorporated association, and is the name of a place. There is a Constitution, members have voting rights, people self-organize here, there is a Coordinating Council, with the main Community Organizer term-limited, and there are community workgroups that create educational events free of charge and open to the public. Meeting new people and being around people doing a variety of work is why 95% of people are here. Come to the new weekly civics meeting. It's called "Own Collective Agency" because that's what the goal is. Responsibilities you can have, ways you can be here, actions you can do, long-term planning, things you can know (want to know the budget, not just numbers but the context of what they mean? we want to share that with you). By learning and doing, you'll support what happens here overall. Coordinating Council members Alex, Fitz, and Emanuel will be there. What is ownership? Fitz says about what we have here: "To do these things requires ownership." Alex says that the good meaning of ownership is "responsibility." Ownership by who? For what? What does it mean to own the equivalent of a very small city, which is a workplace? What might you want to assist with, to give advice on, to do, to own? As we have grown from tens of people to hundreds of people, how does the structure grow to support that? What's the catch? It's that you can own part of this: you can be responsible for this place and group-of-groups staying and growing. main organizer: Alex Linsker (503) 517-6900, Twitter: @alexlinsker or [email protected] This is kind of a weekly Agile meeting: what's happened, what are we working on, what's blocking us from moving forward that we'd like support or advice on? description nil Triage-a-thon 2011 Love Puppet? Hate the backlog of tickets? Want to help us out? The Puppet community has grown really fast and a lot of you have logged tickets and issues. We’ve tried to give those tickets as much love as we could but some slip through the cracks and sometimes we get overwhelmed. We’ve recognised this and want to try to get a handle on the backlog of tickets. But we need your help to do this. What we’re going to do is hold a Triage-a-thon hosted locally in our offices and virtually on IRC and the Web. We’re going to review all the open tickets in the Puppet project with a view to: Update and confirm that issues are still relevant Ensure tickets are in the right status and all the right information is present to help us resolve it Close any invalid or no longer relevant tickets We’ll assign blocks of tickets to every participant, have documentation explaining what you need to do and provide people on the ground to help you make decisions and answer questions. We’ll also provide pizza, snacks (and beer!) and a venue locally in our Portland, OR offices. Virtually we’ll provide an IRC channel, IM and rewards (t-shirts, patches, stickers, badges, and books) for people who triage tickets and get involved.

create Calagator::Event 1250461815 PDMA Learning and Networking Event: CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS – WHY DO WE GET IT WRONG? Roll back

description nil While the need to understand the customer’s requirements is widely acknowledged, too many development efforts suffer from problems with the requirements. A common mistake includes capturing what the customer asks for at a high level, without really understanding the customer need and use model for the product. Many product failures can be attributed to not having a full understanding of what creates value for the customer. Fully understanding what customers value will make the product development process more productive and increase the likelihood of customer success and satisfaction. The Oregon Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) invites you to its January Learning and Networking Event. At this event, experienced professionals will discuss their experiences with understanding customer requirements, how to best understand their underlying need, what approaches work best for collaborating with the customer in creating requirements, and common mistakes to avoid. *A special thanks to the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC) for hosting this event.* **Moderator:** To be announced ### **Panelists** ### **Chris Dennis** – Managing Director, Steaming Kettle Consulting ### **Leo Fishberg** – Principle Architect, User Experience ### **Albrech Enders** – Owner and Principal at endersgroup $20 on-line registration prior to the event $25 at the door A discount is available for PDMA members Click on the website address above to register for this event

create Calagator::Event 1250461814 Pitch Club Roll back

description nil Want to practice your startup pitch in front of people who've done it before? Crave the harsh criticism of your peers? Need the validation of seeing what works and what doesn't in other pitches? Bring your 3 minute pitch. Put your name in a hat and if it gets picked, you're on. Leave your Powerpoint at home - just pitch. Then, answer questions and listen to painfully honest feedback from a panel of so-called experts. The first rule of Pitch Club is you have to be ready to pitch. No teams, no moral support, no looky-loos. More rules as we think of them. FAQ: Q: Who are these so-called experts and what are they going to do to me? A: Your pitch will be evaluated by tech entrepreneurs who have pitched and gotten funded. They are your superiors. Q: What about NDAs? Someone's going to steal my idea! A: There are no NDAs - use your best judgment about what to talk about and what not to. Also, remember the first rule of fight club - don't talk about fight club. We're all on the honor system here. Q: My pitch is more than 3 minutes - can I have more time? A: No. Q: Will it be catered? A: Hell no. You know what's in the lobster bisque. Q: Can anyone critique a pitch? A: No, only the panel.
