update Calagator::Event 1250463028 Winter Coders' Social - Sixth Annual Edition Roll back

description Join Portland's tech community in celebrating the end of another year. This is a fun, free annual event where members of local user groups and their families are invited to mingle, eat and play games. This is the fifth time the event's been held and it's lots of fun every time. We'll have a potluck, so you're welcome to bring something yummy to share with others. If possible, label your food and whether it meets particular dietary needs, e.g. "vegan", "vegetarian", gluten-free", etc. If you'd like, tell others what you plan to bring, or see what others are bringing at http://bit.ly/winter-social-2012-potluck. We'll provide some beverages, plates, cups, utensils and napkins. Like games? Bring your favorites and play them with others. We'll have some rooms with tables set aside. Have an activity or contest that you'd like to organize? Join the discussion at https://groups.google.com/group/pdxgroups. Also, this year there will be a raffle toward the end of the night. update Calagator::Event 1250463185 AgilePDX Downtown Pub Lunch: Managing the Backlog Roll back

description This month we’re all about managing the backlog: Backlog Grooming: What does it mean? How do teams do it? Outside the sprint? What other things can be considered to be done "outside" the scrum team to facilitate a better backlog of stories that are ready for the team? Planning days take too long if the stories aren't ready for the team. It takes effort--how are teams ensuring that it gets done? Should we/ do we consider backlog grooming another of the critical 'scrum ceremonies'? Estimating the backlog: How do teams estimate the backlog? Who does it? How do teams accommodate the business pressure to have information about sizing from which to make long term business plans (roadmap planning)? Is estimation a key part of the grooming process? PO’s, BA’s, SM’s, and Team members, link hands and make the walk over to Ringlers on Burnside at noon this Friday. Bring your questions, your answers, and your backlog grooming passions. Yes, there is still beer. This month we’re all about managing the backlog: Backlog Grooming: What does it mean? How do teams do it? Outside the sprint? update Calagator::Event 1250463208 SFWA Pacific Northwest Reading Series -- Portland Roll back

description The greater Pacific Northwest is home to Ursula K. Le Guin, Kay Kenyon, Jay Lake, Nancy Kress, Brent Weeks, Ted Chiang and Ramona Quimby. Although Ramona isn’t known for her Science Fiction and Fantasy escapades, the rest are, and will be celebrated as part of the Pacific Northwest Reading Series. These free quarterly events provide the Northwest Science Fiction and Fantasy community a chance to gather, network and enjoy readings from local and visiting authors in Portland and Seattle. Each event starts with notes from the host, a leading author, who has selected two of their favorite writers to complete the evening’s theme. In turn, each is given time to read from their latest work, interpreting and explaining their concepts and vision. In addition, space is provided for networking and conversation. The next Portland event will be held on Wednesday, January 30 and will be hosted by James Patrick Kelly, accompanied by Felicity Shoulders and Grá Linnaea. Open to the public!</li> </ul> We will be taking advantage of the audio/visual system to have an open-mic style event. Think: OpenDork meets OpenMic. Bring your own signal! Signal ideas: <ul> <li>Music performance</li> <li>Video (short film, realtime performance)</li> <li>Ignite style quick talk</li> <li>Reading source code</li> </ul> To keep things moving, we're going to have slots that you sign up for. We will try our best to stay on schedule and enforce the following limits: <b>Setup: 5 minutes<br> Performance: 8 minutes</b> To sign up, add your name to the wiki page above. We're trying to keep the audio and video slots independently available, so if you're performing some sound based work, someone else could present video work at the same time. If this won't work for you (because it's a quick talk for example) sign up for both audio and video in that slot. See you there. <ul> <li> <b>When:</b> Monday, December 17th, 2012 :: 8pm</li> <li> <b>Where:</b> <a href="http://www.somedaylounge.com/">Someday Lounge</a> (<a href="http://goo.gl/maps/d5IQg">map</a>) (just two doors down from Backspace)</li> <li> <b>Who:</b> <a href="http://dorkbotpdx.org">DorkbotPDX</a> and YOU!</li> <li> <b>Cost:</b> Free!
