update Calagator::Event 1250471095 Collective Agency Holiday Party Roll back

description December 8th, Thursday, 5-8pm, is the sixth Collective Agency Holiday Party. It’s at our NW location. It’s potluck-style. Bring food and drink. The disco ball will be on. RSVP at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1800463503507540/ and https://www.meetup.com/Collective-Agency-community-workplace/ The holiday party got rescheduled to January 12th because of the snow day. We did have a mini-party, with multiple courses of: pizza tarts, pizza puffs, and onion tarts, with wine. We had a paper airplane contest (for distance). The disco ball was on, and we listened to James Brown. But January 12th will be the actual holiday party. *** It’s potluck-style. Bring food and drink. The disco ball will be on. create Calagator::Event 1250471163 From Coraline to Kubo: A history of LAIKA's Films Roll back

description nil (NOTE: This is the 2nd post as the first was deleted. LAIKA has presented at TechFestNW multiple times. Their films, imho are a marvel of engineering and design. As a member of the tech community, I believe it fits here.) Mark Shapiro of LAIKA, the studio behind Coraline, Kubo & the Two Strings, The Boxtrolls, and ParaNorman. Mark Shapiro from LAIKA will present how these beloved oscar-nominated films are made by hand — from script to illustrations to stop-motion animation. It's a painstaking labor of love that produces an average of two seconds of footage in an week. Mark will also give you an intimate look behind the curtain of LAIKA's biggest stars — the puppets, of course! He'll bring an armature and other stop-motion film goodies with him. All proceeds benefit Cerimon House, a non profit arts and humanities org.

We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. create Calagator::Event 1250471158 Galois tech talk: E3DB – Tozny’s End-to-End Encrypted Database Roll back

description nil # abstract: Project E3DB is a tool for programmers who want to build an end-to-end encrypted database with sharing into their projects. We are providing a command-line client for you to play with and a Java SDK to prototype with. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be getting feedback from you, adding features, and making it ready for production. In this talk, Isaac will discuss what E3DB is, where it’s going, and provide a tutorial for trying it out. Bring your laptop to try! More on E3DB: https://tozny.com/blog/announcing-project-e3db-the-end-to-end-encrypted-database/ Tozny is a Galois product spin-off. Our mission is to make strong crypto easy for both developers and end users. # bio: Isaac is a security researcher at Galois where he has lead authentication and collaboration projects for the DoD and IC. Isaac earned his master’s degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland, University College, and his B.S. in Computer Science from Ohio State University. In 2013, Isaac founded Tozny, a Galois spin-off company aimed at solving the password conundrum. Easier and more secure than passwords, Tozny replaces passwords with an easy-to-use cryptographic key on a user’s mobile phone.

description nil Magic Night is a hands on, team oriented, Javascript coding lab, welcoming of all experience levels and backgrounds. We get together because coding is fun; fun to solve hard problems, and fun to work together. We organize into small teams to code up creative solutions to a common challenge, then after 3 hours of building, present to the group. This month, we'll be divide into teams and work together to build Yatzee. Can you and your team create a dice roller? Build a game loop? Awesome, how about multiplayer, and multi device? Websockets would be interesting to work with for this.

description nil StatefulSet, previously known as PetSet, is one of the major features of Kubernetes 1.4. While still in alpha, it's already the easiest and best way to deploy stateful services like databases on Kubernetes. In this presentation, we will walk through the elements and options of creating a StatefulSet, with detailed examples including deploying: • Etcd • Single-master, HA PostgreSQL • Clustered and/or sharded PostgreSQL • All of the above, again, using Helm Charts Attendees will get sample Kubernetes configs and Helm charts they can use themselves, or adapt to other databases. Extra: A report from KubeCon 2016, for those who weren't able to go.

We now need to deal with massive, distributed, real-time data systems that ingest potentially terabytes of data, support real-time and batch analytics, do machine learning, and support a host of web and mobile app interfaces. This session will walk through architectural patterns and technologies for building these modern data pipelines. You will learn about Apache Kafka, a variety of databases, and data processing frameworks like Spark. RSVP at: https://niketechtalksdec2016.splashthat.com.
