Groupon, a company featuring a daily deal on the best stuff to do, see,
eat, and buy in more than 150 cities around the world recently spurned a
$6 billion buyout offer by Google. By promising businesses a minimum
number of customers, Groupon can offer deals that aren't available
elsewhere. Now several local companies have the same objective.
Mobba (Motto: Shopper's Unite!)an online marketplace where consumers
team to leverage their purchasing power on discounted items, Zaphour,
which supports very specific offers by restaurants and Forkfly, which
allows you "to access great deals from some of the best merchants on the
Fly!" will participate in a group discussion about this hot knew area -
group buying. Entrepreneurs can be inspired by these innovative ideas.

Investor Rights with David Nierenberg
Comments from a skeptical practitioner in the real world of corporate governance and performance
Please join your peers for a dinner and forum discussion on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Mortonâs Steakhouse where we will discuss Investor Rights with our special guest, David Nierenberg. David is founder and President of Nierenberg Investment Management Company. The company invests in a concentrated portfolio of undervalued public micro-cap companies, where they build large ownership stakes and work collaboratively with management teams and boards to help close the gap between the companiesâ market and intrinsic value.
David will talk candidly about his experiences as a significant shareholder. He will discuss proxy advisory services which presume to tell you what good corporate governance is. Should you do what they recommend or should you do something else to maximize stakeholder value?
Please join us for this interesting and timely discussion on investorâs rights.
Event Details:
When: Thursday, March 10, 2011
Time: 5:30 PM â 8:30 PM
Where: Mortonâs The Steakhouse, 213 SW Clay St., Portland, OR 97201

Part hackathon, part geek social, these biweekly meetings are a time for you to come join others for insight, inspiration or just insanity. Bring your toys for others to see, or come see what others have been painstakingly chipping away at in their spare time. Whether it's code or chips, hacking of all sorts is encouraged. But we also like to hear your crazy ideas, so please come join us and bring your willingness to share your brilliance. We'll be the kids with all the coolest stuff on the table. Hope to see you there. |

Join us for an evening of education and interaction around the critical topic of "Raising A Million Dollars In This Economy". We are not talking about the status quo of feedback on writing a business plan, networking with everyone you can get a meeting with and then pitching all of the standard funds in town, but rather about how the vast majority of Oregon and Washington start ups actually get funded.
We will have a panel of four local start up founders including:
- Brent Hieggelke (CEO of Second Porch)
- Ken Westin (CEO of ActiveTrak Inc.)
- Kevin DeWhitt (Founder of Agilyx) and
- John Friess (CEO of journey gym)
These founders have each raised between $600K and $9M for their Oregon start ups in the past couple of years. They have raised these funds through their founding team, angel investors, angel funds and VCs. The whole gamut is covered here, but more importantly their candid feedback on what worked well and consistently will surprise you. All of them agree the secret is often something out of your control unless you can create it.
So, if you are looking to better learn about how these four local start ups raised their funding, how long it took, who provided it, what were the terms, what worked well, what their valuations were, where they found their angels, what due diligence cycles were like, etc., then this event is for you.
This event is open to the public and as always this event is free and dinner will be provided. We will start the event at 6:00pm with food and networking and then the educational portion will begin at 6:30pm. |
