create Calagator::Event 1250460801 Portland Linux/Unix Group: Rapid Discussions on Any Topic Roll back

description nil PRESENTATION Rapid Discussions on Any Topic by Anyone & Everyone Instead of having a formal presentation, we will get together and discuss anything anyone wants to discuss in brief sessions of no more than a few minutes each. If we have enough people involved we can break into smaller groups to handle each topic. One very short topic that I will be prepared to discuss for a few minutes will be: - Open Source at Two Year Colleges Why are text books so damn expensive? AND YES - We are looking for speakers for upcoming months. Volunteers and Recommendations are welcome.

create Calagator::Event 1250460798 Galois tech talk: Parallel K-induction based Model Checking Roll back

description nil Presented by Temesghen Kahsai. We give an overview of a parallel k-induction-based model checking architecture for verifying safety properties of synchronous systems. The architecture, which is strictly message-based, is designed to minimize synchronization delays and easily accommodate the incorporation of incremental invariant generators to enhance basic k-induction. A first level of parallelism is introduced in the k-induction procedure itself by executing the base and the inductive steps concurrently. A second level of parallelism allows the addition of one or more independent processes that incrementally generate invariants for the system being verified. The invariants are fed to the k-induction loop as soon as they are produced and used to strengthen the induction hypothesis. This architecture allows the verification of multiple properties in an incremental fashion. Specifically, the outcome of a property -- valid or invalid -- is communicated to the user as soon as the result is known. Moreover, verified valid properties are added as invariants in the model checking procedure to aid the verification of the remaining properties. We provide experimental evidence that this incremental and parallel architecture significantly speeds up the verification of safety properties. Additionally, due to the automatic invariant generation, it also considerably increases the number of provable safety properties.

update Calagator::Event 1250460793 Mentorship Speed-Dating -- Business, Software Development, Visual Communications Roll back

description Are you looking for a mentor? Are you looking for someone to mentor? Here's your chance to find a match! Much like speed dating, we'll set you up with eight different mentors in your field, and you'll get 15 minutes to share your ideas, questions, answers and advice with each one. Unlike speed dating, there's no awkward Yes/No checkboxes to turn in at the end. Everyone gets everyone else's contact info, and nobody feels left out. Hopefully. We're looking for eight mentors and eight mentees (a funny word for someone who needs a mentor), in these three categories: * Business (10am - Noon) This includes anything in the topic of Business: sales, marketing, operations, finance, legal and management. * Software Development (1 - 3pm) This can include coding, programming, web app development, back-end, front-end, and anything related to making software. * Visual Communications (4 - 6pm) All things visual: art, design, graphics, visualization, photography, whatever gets the message across. Important: We can only accept 8 mentors and 8 mentees in each of the three categories. To RSVP, email [email protected] and tell us your name, what category you'll be in (Business, Software Development or Visual Communications), and whether you're a mentor or mentee.) description GROUP: The Portland Ruby Brigade is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland Oregon area. Join other developers for presentations and discussions about Ruby and its uses. VENUE: The building entrance is on SW Columbia between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The door may be locked, but there's a guard on site that will let you in and you can use the doorbell to summon them. Ask the guard nicely to let you up to the 2nd floor conference room, the elevators require them to use a key card. When you get to the 2nd floor, just follow the "pdxruby" signs. create Calagator::Event 1250460790 IndieWebCamp Roll back

description nil Rather than posting content on many third-party silos of data, we should all begin owning our own data that we're creating. Publish short status updates on your own domain, and syndicate to Twitter. Publish photos on your own domain, syndicate to Flickr, etc, etc. This is the basis of the "Indie Web" movement. We'll get together for two days to talk about what has been done in the field, and where still needs to be done. There will be workshops and breakout sessions the second day. For some reading on the subject, browse Tantek's documentation of his projects like Whistle and Falcon, two projects he created as an effort to begin owning his own published content. Hosted by Tantek Çelik, Aaron Parecki and Amber Case. RSVP on the IndieWebCamp Wiki.
