Coming to OSCON? Be sure to come a day early and join us for another PgDay! This summer marks PDXPUG's 5th anniversary, and we want to see *your* smiling face! We will be celebrating at Gotham Tavern after the day of sessions. Sign up for sessions and afterparty here: http://bit.ly/f1F2Mz .
Yes, it's ok to show up just for the afternoon (or the party) if your flight arrives on Sunday.
We'd like a $30 donation to SPI for the sessions, but don't let lack of funds deter you from attending. |

Mobile: The Market, The Web, and Windows Phoneâs Future
Roll back
| description |
TOPIC: Mobile: The Market, The Web, and Windows Phoneâs Future
There are few things more frustrating than reading the tech press in the United States try to cover the mobile market. First Microsoftâs mobile efforts are going nowhere. Six months later, it will be bigger than the iPhone by 2015. Say what?
Letâs back up for a moment from the day-to-day horse race coverage of Android versus iPhone and look at what the big picture trends are in the mobile market. What makes mobile unique? What makes a mobile product successful? And finally does Microsoft have a chance to get back into the mobile game?
Jason Grigsby was one of the project leads on the Obama iPhone Application and helped design the user inferface for the Wall Street Journal's Blackberry application. He founded and organizes Mobile Portland, a local mobile group.
Jason is a co-founder of Cloud Four, a small start-up focused on mobile and web development. He blogs at http://CloudFour.com/blog and provides frequent updates about mobile as @grigs on Twitter. |

Free beginning programming workshop for women. This inaugural workshop will focus on web development with Ruby and Rails. The workshop is free. You must attend both the Friday evening install fest and the Saturday workshop.
MORE DETAILS TO COME
If you would like to help plan, join our Google group here:
http://groups.google.com/group/lot-workshops
A note about our audience:
These workshops will be a series of events meant to increase gender diversity across the spectrum of the Portland software development community. Each workshop will familiarize participants with a programming language and its ecosystem through tutorials, practice exercises, and one-on-one help from volunteer guides. Attendees will learn the basic skills and vocabulary needed to start participating in the relevant user groups and open source projects.
In keeping with our goal of increasing gender diversity, we open these workshops to all self-identified women and genderqueer persons. Men are welcome to attend when invited by an attending member of these qualifying groups. |

What is ADX? It’s what shop class should have been. Want to make something?
We’re your gym for a better kind of workout. Everyone is welcome―in our 12,000-square foot facility, high-profile designers work alongside students, retirees share their knowledge with novice builders, and entrepreneurs mix with hobbyists. We give you access to the tools, the space, and the community to help you create anything you dream up.
Want something made? Need a 12-foot tall light-up sign? Want to ditch that Ikea set for a handcrafted, exotic hardwood line of custom furniture? Or maybe just a really sweet keychain? We’ll work with you to get your project done right. |
