We've had lots of requests for Apache CouchDB Training in Portland, so we'll be doing a two day training at Souk in downtown Portland.
Day one of the of CouchDB training course provides an introduction to using and working with CouchDB, covering the key aspects of interacting with CouchDB, essential tools for working with CouchDB, the core API, document design, views, replication, bulk documents and document validation.
On day two of CouchDB training you will focus on view patterns and queries and how to format documents and views from your database using the built-in list and show functionality. You will also learn about advanced techniques for working with CouchDB data, from consuming the changes feed, creating replication ï¬lters, document update handlers and database and document security.
This is a fantastic opportunity if you're a developer, or if you are a manager looking to get your team trained.

Portland Ruby Brigade monthly meeting

PRESENTATIONS:
* Ezra Zygmuntowicz will give a deep technical talk about the Cloud Foundry system he's been working on at VMWare. It's an open source Platform-as-a-Service that plays well with different hosting platforms, frameworks and services. It's written entirely in Ruby and uses bleeding edge features of 1.9, fibers, EventMachine, etc. He'll walk us through the bits and pieces -- no "marketecture", only architecture and deep tech. [See a more complete description at the bottom of this email]
* Markus Roberts' Ruby hangman puzzle [hopefully]
* Maybe 15 minutes for another talk and discussion at the end.

GROUP: The Portland Ruby Brigade is a user group for Ruby programmers in the Portland Oregon area. Join other developers for presentations and discussions about Ruby and its uses.
VENUE: The building entrance is on SW Columbia between 2nd and 3rd Avenue. The door may be locked, but there's a guard on site that will let you in and you can use the doorbell to summon them. Ask the guard nicely to let you up to the 2nd floor conference room, the elevators require them to use a key card. When you get to the 2nd floor, just follow the "pdxruby" signs. This meeting space is kindly offered to us by Robert Half Technology, a company that provides IT staffing services and positions: http://www.roberthalftechnology.com/

Portland State Aeronautics Society Rocket Launch
Roll back
description |
Portland's premier rocket club is scheduling a public rocket launch in the Oregon high desert.
This is the fourth launch of our third generation rocket. We expect to reach about 14,000 feet and to break the sound barrier! It's a 12 foot tall aluminum and fiberglass rocket that burns almost 15 pounds of fuel! If you've never seen a large(ish) rocket launch this could be your chance!
This will be very similar to our last launch in October, but with new flight computer electronics.
Read about our last launch here:
http://psas.pdx.edu/news/2010-10-17-2/
Brothers is a long way from anywhere, we come in on Saturday and camp. You're welcome to join us. For the less adventurous (there are no amenities, bring your own water and food) you can stay in Bend and drive in -- it's about 45 minutes -- on Sunday morning.
Directions to the launch site:
http://www.oregonrocketry.com/?page_id=78
**NOTE** this is currently a tentative launch date. More information will be posed on our home page at http://psas.pdx.edu as we get closer to the date. |

If you're like me, you spend WAYYYY too much time in front of a computer.
