update Calagator::Event 1250462033 CHIFOO presents: "Security *IS* a Game: Using the Blender Game Engine for Security" with Jeff Bryner Roll back

description SecViz.org is a great resource for security visualizations, but most suffer from a lack of interactivity. Completing kinectasploit for DEFCON19 made me realize the utility of game engines for interacting with security tools and security information. Jeff will start with a recap/encore performance of kinectasploit (http://p0wnlabs.com/defcon19), which uses gestures to drive a first-person shooter 3D game environment to break into computers on victim virtual machines. Then using the same technology, Jeff will walk through a couple scenes using standard corporate security data in a 3D, kinect-driven environment made possible by the blender game engine. Kinect and gestures are two of the most prevalent game-changing technologies to affect user interfaces since the keyboard and mouse. Applying these tools to real-world data is challenging, fraught with pitfalls, and a heck of a lot of fun! Let’s discover the boundaries of current technology by pushing it until it fails! update Calagator::Event 1250462140 Drupal Users Group: March 2012 Roll back

description Ryan Alsett is presenting at this month's user group meeting, and it looks awesome! Ryan has built a system that allows attendees to launch a remote desktop session complete with all tools needed to debug a native Drupal instance. In other words, bring your laptops: we're going to debug drupal at the touch of a button, no ugly configuration or installation involved. We're going to walk through the Drupal 7 bootstrap and watch as each part falls into place. Ryan is also going to show us some simple approaches to debugging our own projects. So, to recap: Wednesday, 6pm, OpenSourcery. Bring your laptops and enough battery for about 1.5 hours. This session is going to go about 30-45 minutes longer than normal due to all the awesome we're trying to cram in. See you there!

update Calagator::Event 1250461941 PDX-UX: JavaScript Web Apps Roll back

description "Avoiding the Spaghetti" by Henrik Joreteg Clientside code doesn't have to be an ugly cluttered mess. Building clean, sane, maintainable client-side applications is indeed possible. We'll talk a bit about CommonJS on the client, properly abstracting a model layer, the DOM as a dumb view layer, sharing code between client/server and other techniques for avoiding insanity like automated static code analysis. Henrik is a partner and lead JS developer at &yet (http://andyet.net), a boutique web software company in Richland, WA. He's a member of a growing group of javascript developers who are blazing the trail of realtime and single-page web application development and server-side javascript. Let’s put it this way: the dude cannot shut up about node.js, backbone, and socket.io. He is the primary developer for &bang (http://andbang.com) and has written a slew of single-page real-time web apps using a number of technologies. He recently spoke at NodeConf and KRTConf and was a technical reviewer for O'Reilly's JavaScript Web Applications. He is the author of the popular open source javascript templating solution, iCanHaz.js and as an early adopter of Backbone.js wrote several definitive blogposts on the subject. update Calagator::Event 1250462062 PDMA: Product Management Challenges in the Transition to Agile Roll back

description ## March PDMA Learning and Networking Event If your development has started to embrace Agile methods, you’ll quickly notice the team is acting strangely. All of a sudden an MRD becomes a “backlog”, software releases become “sprints”, requirements become “user stories” and new languages such as “estimating poker” and “fist to five” start creeping into meetings. A successful transition also requires that Product Management behaves differently to leverage the benefits of Agile. During this transition, Product Management can either become the hero that helps Agile to shine as a serious business tool, or a villain that drives Agile deep into the dark corners of development. We’ll discuss some of the following specific challenges the Product Managers often experience in this transition among others: - Converting visions to backlogs - Driving and reporting roadmaps in Agile - Working with Product Owners… or being a Product Owner - PM’s role in iteration and release planning The Oregon Chapter of the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) invites you to its March Learning and Networking Event. At this event, experienced professionals will share their experiences with transitions to Agile and offer specific tactics to make your transition successful. They will then lead a vigorous discussion based on Q&A from the audience. A special thanks to the Oregon Technology Business Center (OTBC) for hosting this event. **Speakers** * **Tony Aiello, Consulting Vision Engineer, Machine Vision Consulting** * **Dorian Simpson, Managing Partner, Planning Innovations** * **Miki Tokola, Managing Partner, Micom Consulting** **Date, Time, and Cost** * Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 5:30-8:00 PM * $20 on-line registration prior to the event * $25 at the door * **To register for this event, click on the website address above** * A discount is available for PDMA members The Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) is the premier global advocate for product development and management professionals. The Oregon chapter's mission is to help local professionals and organizations to identify, develop, and launch more innovative and profitable products and services through cross-industry collaboration, thought leadership, and the sharing of best practices and practical knowledge. **Speakers** * **Tony Aiello, Consulting Vision Engineer, Machine Vision Consulting** * **Dorian Simpson, Managing Partner, Planning Innovations** * **Miki Tokola, Managing Partner, Micom Consulting** **Date, Time, and Cost** * Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 5:30-8:00 PM * $20 on-line registration prior to the event * $25 at the door * **To register for this event, click on the website address above** * A discount is available for PDMA members ## March PDMA Learning and Networking Event If your development has started to embrace Agile methods, you’ll quickly notice the team is acting strangely. create Calagator::Event 1250462137 AgilePDX: Beaverton/Bangalore: A Tale of One Scrum Team Roll back

description nil Will we nil we, offshore development and distributed teams are here to stay (see CIO Journal 2/27/12 “Offshore Outsourcing Can Boost Agility).” Some people contend that it can’t be done effectively. Come hear a case study of how one distributed Scrum team (Beaverton/Bangalore) learned to work together, rapidly improve velocity in a few sprints, and deliver the expected product on schedule. Jean Richardson and Rob Mills will discuss what it took to make it happen, the ups, the downs, and the lessons learned. Robert Mills currently is the VP of IT at Rivermark Community Credit Union and was previously the Director of Engineering for CoreLogic, Consumer Services. Rob has led multiple organizations during their transition from waterfall or iterative processes to using Scrum. His organizations have been both global and local as well as both in Software Engineering and Information Technology. Jean Richardson is experienced in Scrum and leadership coaching, adaptive and predictive project management, writing, training, public speaking, and requirements and business analysis. She has led, coached, and participated on both co-located and distributed teams, presented to IEEE IPCC on virtual teaming, and has been previously engaged to create an offshore development best practices white paper for a large local high-tech firm. Her client list includes a wide range of businesses including ADP, CoreLogic, Daimler/Chrysler, Action Without Borders/Idealist.org, Mentor Graphics, Portland General Electric, Oregon Health Authority, The Regence Group, and Tripwire.

create Calagator::Event 1250462136 CTO & Engineering Executive Forum: Adapting Manufacturing Principles to Engineering Projects Roll back

description nil “Value Stream” is a term that originated with Lean Manufacturing meaning to analyze and design the flow of materials and information required to bring a product or service to a consumer. The whole idea is to drive out waste, deliver fast, build quality in, and engage all of the people involved in the value stream so that great products emerge. Urban Airship has had a lot of success with Kanban and Kaizen… So wrote Mike Herrick, VP Engineering at Urban Airship in Portland. Coming from both an engineering and operations background myself, this caught my attention – the idea of using manufacturing principles to streamline and accelerate product development and deployment is intriguing. Engineering Executives must assure that the flow continues all the way from blue-sky concept through development, productization, release to manufacturing, scale-up and support – often to a world-wide market. We’ve invited Mike to join us to kick-off our round-table CTO Forum discussions in April with a few anecdotes and reflections on what they’re doing and what they’ve learned. Please join us for this opportunity to exchange ideas and real-life experiences with your industry peers. Event Details: When: Tuesday, April 17, 2012 Time: 5:30 – 8:30 PM Where: TBD, Portland, OR Fees: $95 Members, $120 Nonmembers To Register: TechAmerica Oregon, 503-624-4871 Thank you Marger Johnson & McCollom PC for sponsoring!

description nil Form a team with a few of your friends and be part of an amazing game that is sweeping the nation! From fictitious graveyards to s'mores designed in morse code to music clips containing a hidden message, anything is possible to encounter when playing in the DASH puzzle hunt. A puzzle hunt, a unique type of treasure hunt, is a fun, interactive, outdoor event in which teams of players race to find and solve creative puzzles hidden in different locations. DASH (Different Area—Same Hunt) is a puzzle hunt event that happens simultaneously across multiple cities across the United States. The inaugural DASH in September 2009 spanned 8 cities. DASH 4 is currently being planned in 13 participating cities. Creating the hunt is a collaborative effort of puzzle enthusiast volunteers across the country. Each city contributes a clue to the event, and each event uses all the clues from the contributing cities.
