create Calagator::Event 1250464381 Transition (AKA Change) Management - DAMA PDX (Data Management User Group) Roll back

description nil The DAMA Portland Chapter is dedicated to delivering thought provoking presentations that will make you more successful in your job. In June we take an exciting step away from the hard science topics to explore how to be more effective. How many times have you delivered solutions that were never adopted or fell short in acceptance? If you’ve been around IT and projects long enough, you will know this truth - that success depends on the adoption of new systems, applications etc. by people. The skills that enable delivery are not the same skills that promote acceptance and use. While project management tends to focus on delivery of something, Transition Management (TM) focuses on the people part of solutions. At places like Nike, transition management is taken very seriously and all major projects have a Transition Manager assigned: - Transition Management is a structured approach, and set of tools, to transition individuals, teams, and organizations from a current start to a desired future state - A leadership competency for enabling change within organization - A strategic capability designed to increase change capacity and responsiveness No matter the project or change size, Transition Management should be always a consideration. Ignore TM at your own risk. Transition management is more than just a learning plan. Done correctly, TM is a whole lot more. Nike's Transition Methodology is an evolution of the Bridge's Change Management Model.

create Calagator::Event 1250464380 CHIFOO Presents: Immersive Environments and Advanced Visualization Technologies for Testing New Car Designs Roll back

description nil The Ford Immersive Vehicle Environment (FiVE) applies a variety of real-time, advanced visualization technologies to allow efficient, quick and effective evaluations of vehicle design proposals. Ford is using virtual and augmented reality in a unique and amazing way to simulate a multitude of customer perspectives very early in the development process. Their approach is different…it combines the best of what the virtual and physical worlds have to offer. How did Ford get there? Elizabeth will explain how the need for FiVE was fulfilled, the importance of quantifying the vehicle-owner subjective relationship, and the consideration of human-machine interaction. She will explain the totally awesome VR systems used at Ford and the successes and challenges of virtual reviews. She will relay the practical (and impractical) principles Ford employs regarding conducting virtual assessments, as well as the types of assessments that are used in vehicle development and engineering. Elizabeth will detail how Ford quantifies the emotional connection between you and your car. And she will also provide insight on where gaps exist in the current suite of VR tools, and thoughts on the future of human/computer interaction for vehicle engineering and design. About the Speaker Elizabeth Baron is a Technical Specialist in Virtual Reality and Advanced Visualization at Ford Motor Company. She manages the Ford immersive Vehicle Evaluation (FiVE) Lab in Product Development, and provides immersive virtual reality evaluation systems used for industrial design and product development. She develops and deploys highly realistic immersive systems that address the unique challenges of automotive design, engineering and ergonomics. She has led the development of immersive VR systems that satisfy evaluation criteria for engineering, ergonomics and aesthetic design to allow different disciplines in product development to communicate in a common environment. Elizabeth began her career at Ford in 1988 working as a software developer for Ford’s product design software, later specializing in visualization and solid modeling software. She received her BS in Industrial Technology and Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University. She is also a qualified Six Sigma Academy Black Belt. She is a member of the Human Motion Simulation Consortium at the University of Michigan, the Society of Automotive Engineers, IEEE and ACM.

create Calagator::Event 1250464379 Galois Tech Talk: Non-interference and Binary Correctness of seL4 Roll back

description nil Presented by Gerwin Klein and Thomas Sewell. This talk introduces two new facets that have recently been added to the seL4 formal verification story: a proof the kernel does not leak information between domains, and a proof that the compiled binary matches the expected semantics of the C source code. The first part of the talk presents a new non-interference theorem for seL4, which builds on the earlier function correctness verification. The theorem shows how seL4 can be configured as a static separation kernel with dynamic kernel services within each domain. The binary proof addresses the compiler-correctness assumption of the earlier seL4 proofs by connecting the compiled binary to the refinement chain, thus showing that the seL4 binary used in practice has all of the properties that have been shown of its models. We use the Cambridge ARM model and Magnus Myreen's certifying decompiler, together with a custom correspondence finder for assembly-like programs powered by modern SMT solvers. We cover the previously-verified parts of seL4 as compiled by gcc (4.5.1) at optimisation level 1.

create Calagator::Event 1250464375 Selecting and Implementing the Right Volunteer Management System Roll back

description nil <p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>NOTE:</strong></span></p> <p><span style="color: #ff0000;">This event will not be held on the first Wednesday of the month as per usual. Event moved to July 10 due to the holiday.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #ff0000;">Also note different venue.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>Agenda</strong></span></p> <p>Networking and refreshments 6pm-6:30pm</p> <p>Presentation 6:30pm</p> <p><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>Description</strong></span></p> <p>Intended for small and volunteer run nonprofits, this presentation dispels the mystery surrounding the selection and implementation of a database used to track volunteer related information such as contact info, skills, training history, schedules, time sheets, jobs, and job locations. This non-technical presentation is specifically geared towards nonprofits which are starting to outgrow their current approach to tracking, managing, and reporting on volunteer activity. The right volunteer data management solution can help free up time for managing volunteers (rather than administering the process), enable your organization to make better decisions through targeted reporting, and even increase volunteer hours by making it easier for individuals to engage with your nonprofit.</p> <p>Those organizations currently using paper, spreadsheets, or desktop databases will benefit just as much as those nonprofits already using a purpose built volunteer management system. Join us, share your own experiences, and learn from others as you are walked through the process of choosing and putting in a volunteer management system that best meets the unique needs of your organization.</p> <p>Key Takeaways Include:</p> <ul> <li>A step by step process for selecting the right database to recruit, schedule, coordinate, and communicate with volunteers as well as produce reports for use within the organization</li> <li>A roadmap for moving to the new volunteer management system</li> <li>Common selection and implementation issues and how to avoid them</li> </ul><p><strong style="font-size: large;">About the presenter</strong></p> <p><strong>Jeff Turner</strong>, PMP is the Principal at NPO Back Office, a company specializing in supporting the technology needs of small and volunteer run nonprofits. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Mr. Turner is an accomplished Information Technology professional, nonprofit leader and volunteer who spent the first 18 years of his career improving organizational efficiency and integrating mission critical systems for some of the most widely recognized companies in the Pacific Northwest. He now takes great pleasure in helping nonprofits leverage technology to reduce labor requirements and improve organizational communication.</p> <p><strong style="font-size: large;">What you'll get out of PDXTech4Good events</strong></p> <ul> <li> <strong>Nonprofit staffers</strong> will find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for those not experienced with technology, and many chances to ask questions of tech-experienced nonprofits and experts.</li> <li> <strong>Techies</strong> will find opportunities to hear the real-world stories of nonprofit clients, and put their own expertise to social good — as well as the potential for lasting relationships (be they paid or volunteer) with leading organizations in our community.</li> <li> <strong>Activists and community organizers</strong> will see and be given the chance to present on successful uses of technology for social change. We'll explore how technology can help support activism and where activism can push it forward.</li> </ul>
