update Calagator::Event 1250477056 Panel Discussion on Facial Recognition Use in Portland Roll back

description Facial recognition technologies are being implemented around the world. While some uses of facial recognition, like unlocking your phone, may be convenient, others allow your facial information to be collected, used, and shared, without your knowledge or consent. Both governments and companies are now using this technology, often with little to no oversight or rules in place. In addition to transparency issues, facial recognition software programs have varying degrees of accuracy and have been shown to be less reliable when analyzing people of color, women, and children. Because of these issues, some cities, including San Francisco, Oakland, and Somerville, MA, have banned government agencies from using facial recognition. Portland city officials are also considering a facial recognition ban and are looking to go a step further and address use by private entities as well. There are many details to consider when adopting technologies like facial recognition, which can be used for surveillance. What are the costs and benefits? Who will be the target of the surveillance? Will it make us safer? What are we giving up in exchange for that safety? And should the technology be adopted at all? On June 15th, join us for a combined event, with local privacy group PDX Privacy, where we'll ask our knowledgeable panelists the answers to these questions. We'll explore the risks of facial recognition technology, the ways it affects various groups of people, and how we can preserve our privacy and protect our communities. create Calagator::Event 1250477057 Portland, Oregon OWASP Study Night (Virtual) - Detect Complex Code Patterns Using Semantic Grep Roll back

description nil RSVP: https://www.meetup.com/OWASP-Portland-Chapter/events/271144214/ Abstract: We’ll discuss a program analysis tool we’re developing called Semgrep. It's a multilingual semantic tool for writing security and correctness queries on source code (for Python, Java, Go, C, and JS) with a simple “grep-like” interface. The original author, Yoann Padioleau, worked on Semgrep’s predecessor, Coccinelle, for Linux kernel refactoring, and later developed Semgrep while at Facebook. He’s now full time with us at r2c. Semgrep is a free open-source program analysis toolkit that finds bugs using custom analysis we’ve written and OSS code checks. Semgrep is ideal for security researchers, product security engineers, and developers who want to find complex code patterns without extensive knowledge of ASTs or advanced program analysis concepts. Speaker bio: Clint Gibler (@clintgibler) is the Head of Security Research for r2c, a small startup working on giving security tools directly to developers. Previously, Clint was a Research Director at NCC Group, a global security consulting firm, where he helped companies implement security automation and DevSecOps best practices as well as performed penetration tests for companies ranging from large enterprises to new startups.Clint has previously spoken at conferences including BlackHat USA, AppSec USA/EU/Cali, BSidesSF, and DevSecCon Seattle/London/Tel Aviv/Singapore. Clint holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Davis.Want to keep up with security research? Our events are intended to educate and share information related to technology and activism, and anyone who is there for this purpose is welcome. Please report any incidents to the event organizer. Facial recognition technologies are being implemented around the world.
