Co-creAIt, an unconference about human/AI collaboration
Roll back
| description |
nil |
→ |
Co-creAIt is an unconference about Humans and Generative AI collaborating at work. The event is for brand-side digital leaders, agencies, consultants, developers, and other creative professionals. The event is presented by the Digital Strategy Exchange.
As an unconference, there are no speakers or panelists (you've probably heard a lot from several AI experts already). INSTEAD, each attendee is an equal participant in the various topic discussions, which the attendees decide on together at the start of the event. It's the most interactive and collaborative event type.
NOTE: Each attendee will get a box lunch at the event.
TESTIMONIAL from Co-creAIt 2025 attendee:
"Having never attended an “unconference” before, Co-CreAIt was a breath of fresh air. It brought together a mix of AI-curious folks—technologists, filmmakers, and business leaders across a wide range of industries and skill levels. Everyone felt genuinely welcome. The format felt laid-back and fluid, unlike a typically rigid event. I met some really interesting people and left inspired. It’s exciting to see a community like this starting to take shape in Portland. Looking forward to the next one!"
Garett Stenson, Founder & Head of Strategy, db clay, Founder, MIXED* AI film festival
You've put in the time to learn and use some GenAI tools. Now's the time to gather with your peers in these essential discussions about the pros & cons of humans and GenAI working together, best practices, etc.
EVENT PRODUCER
This is the 2nd Co-creAIt event produced by Steve Gehlen & co-produced by Al Partridge. Steve is the past producer of Cre8con, the Portland Creative Conference (2008-2019), the Cre8Camp unconference services, Inverge: the interactive convergence conference, the Internet Strategy Forum Summit, and founder of the Digital Strategy Exchange, a new professional development network for brand-side/in-house digital leaders.
PRESENTED BY: Digital Strategy Exchange, a new professional development network for brand-side/in-house digital leaders or individual consultants with 10+ years of brand-side experience.
For information about how to join the Digital Strategy Exchange, visit https://digitalstrategyexchange.com

MeeBoss Hiring Festival – Startup Registration
Roll back
| description |

Oregon's Flagship Startup Hiring Event
The Oregon Hiring Festival brought to you by MeeBoss, Oregon Entrepreneur Network [OEN], and WeWork, is HERE! We'll be bringing together 10+ hiring companies and ~100+ job seekers for an afternoon of matchmaking, conversation, and in-person connections.
Here’s how it works: once you register, MeeBoss will get your open roles live within 48 hours. Our match-first, chat-first platform connects you directly with qualified candidates ahead of time so you can begin conversations online before the event. Then, at the festival, you’ll meet those candidates face-to-face at your booth, alongside new walk-ups who discover your team on the spot.
To keep things flowing smoothly, the hiring block runs for three hours straight. While some job seekers step out for lunch or attend the panel discussion, others stay engaged at the booths. Creating a natural rotation and steady candidate flow without overwhelming lines. Please bring more then one person to support your booth.
This streamlined format guarantees high-quality interactions while giving you the buzz, PR spotlight, and networking energy of a full-day festival, but without requiring your team to commit an entire day. |

Portland Monthly BEAM Meet & Chat
Roll back
| description |

Let’s get together for an informal BEAM PDX hangout: coffee, conversation, and light co-working.
This is a low-key monthly meetup for folks working with Elixir, Erlang, Gleam, and other BEAM languages, aimed at reconnecting the local community and rebuilding momentum after a long quiet stretch. We'll holding this on the second Thursday of each month.
There will be opportunities to:
Ask questions about Elixir and other BEAM languages
Share what you’ve been working on (or stuck on)
Get help with programming or design problems
Co-work: get things done with like-minded folks nearby
Brainstorm ideas for future talk-based meetups and identify potential speakers
Bring your laptop if you’d like. It's totally optional.
New to BEAM languages, or just curious? You’re very welcome.
Please RSVP so we know roughly how many people to expect. If your plans change, un-RSVP when you can.
This meetup is also part of our transition away from Meetup to a new home for the group, where we’ll be organizing future events. |

It’s been so great to see this community gather for our very first event. We’re excited to get everyone back together on March 4th at 6:00 PM to continue our work in raising awareness around AI safety here in Portland.
What to expect this time: We’ll kick things off with a short presentation to set the stage, but the heart of the evening is about conversation. Our goal is to give everyone space to engage, ask questions, and connect with one another. We want to hear your thoughts and keep the dialogue going.
We'll have some snacks and refreshing drinks for you as well. Meet us in the large Community Room 1A (right by the main entrance on the right).
Whether it is your first time or you are coming back, we’d love to have you!

This is an in-person meetup.
Modern developer experience on WildFly
Has your view of Enterprise Java evolved with the platform? In this session, James R. Perkins (Jakarta EE & Jakarta REST Co-Lead) dives into the modern developer experience on WildFly.
We will explore the latest in Jakarta EE and how WildFly has transformed its provisioning model.
You will learn how to build slim, cloud-ready runtimes using the WildFly Bootable JAR and Galleon, moving away from the traditional "full server" installation. Finally, we will look at a new approach to integration testing using wildfly-testing-tools, demonstrating how to easily spin up environments and test Jakarta REST endpoints with confidence.
Speaker:
James Perkins is a Software Engineer at IBM and a longtime open-source contributor. He currently leads the RESTEasy project and helps drive the future of enterprise Java as a co-lead of Jakarta EE and Jakarta REST.
A WildFly committer for over 15 years, he also leads several WildFly integration projects focused on simplifying the testing and development experience for modern Jakarta EE developers.

PDXOSGeo February Meetup
Roll back
| description |
PDXOSGeo connects again this week, Wednesday February 25, 6:30p Hot Lips Pizza @ the Natural Capital Center 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland OR. Join us for some show and tell and good open geo discussion!
This month we will be discussing Landslide Susceptibility Modeling With Information Theory: The Terroir of Landslides, with David Percy
David Percy “Percy” has been doing research on applying Reconstructability Analysis (RA) to categorical raster GIS datasets since 2012, and is preparing to defend his dissertation on Spatial Reconstructability Analysis soon. RA is a form of machine learning algorithm (MLA) that works exclusively with discrete data, so categorical data such as the variables in the SSURGO soils database, the geologic database (DOGAMI), and land cover (NLCD) can be used in their native format without conversion to dummy variables, as is typically done in other MLAs.
These variables are used along with topographic data to model landslide susceptibility in two of the counties ranked highest by FEMA for most landslide hazards: Lincoln and Tillamook. We find that there is evidence to suggest that we can map a Terroir of Landslides, using combinations of soil type, geology, elevation, and terrane group, similar to the combinations of environmental factors that are used to characterize wines, chocolate, and coffee. Results will be presented that show how these data are useful in making hazard maps. All of the extraction for analysis was done in QGIS and Python using open source GIS libraries Shapely and Rasterio. Code will be shared and discussed.
Join us Wednesday for a lively discussion! |

This month we will be discussing Landslide Susceptibility Modeling With Information Theory: The Terroir of Landslides, with David Percy, aka "Percy". Percy is preparing to defend his dissertation on Spatial Reconstructability Analysis, and led us in in a lively discussion in January. This month he will share another aspect of his work on applying Reconstructability Analysis (RA) to categorical raster datasets.
RA is a form of machine learning algorithm (MLA) that works exclusively with discrete data, so categorical data such as the variables in the SSURGO soils database, the geologic database (DOGAMI), and land cover (NLCD) can be used as inputs in their native format without conversion to dummy variables, as is typically done in other MLAs.
For his February demo, Percy will show how these variables are used along with topographic data to model landslide susceptibility in two of the counties ranked highest by FEMA for most landslide hazards: Lincoln and Tillamook. Percy will show that there is evidence to suggest that we can map a Terroir of Landslides, using combinations of soil type, geology, elevation, and terrane group, similar to the combinations of environmental factors that are used to characterize wines, chocolate, and coffee.
