description Tickets here: http://pdxgeounconference11.eventbrite.com/ This is a free Open Source Geospatial Unconference put on by the Portland OSGeo User Group. The unconference takes place the day after the GIS in Action conference and is registration is free (though we request you sign up for a ticket here to assist us in planning). The unconference will begin with registration at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm. Coffee, tea, and water will be provided, however participants are on their own for lunch (there are numerous dining options within close proximity). The unconference will take place in PSU's Smith Memorial Student Union building, on the third floor, in rooms 327, 328, 329, 333, and 338. Registration in room 338 (the VanPort room). Maps of PSU Smith Memorial Student Union are available <a href="http://www.pdx.edu/cegs/smith-memorial-student-union/">here</a>. This is a participant-driven event! Please join us on Monday April 4th for a very special UpdatePDX session at PIE, with guest speakers from down the block, up the coast & around the world. This evening will try to take a step back to talk about the recent changes in the data & distributed systems worlds. The program is as follows. Guests: Sarah Novotny, Blue Gecko Alex Payne, BankSimple Bradford Stephens, Drawn to Scale Tim Anglade, Cloudan Act 1: Failing Our guests share their shame, as they tell the tale an IT failure they were personally involved in. Act 2: Making Sense Tim Anglade recaps the state, level & tenor of the database discussion, drawing from the fourty interviews he conducted with vendors, deployers & cool dudes for the NOSQL Tapes. He'll cover the disjointed but slowly converging technical efforts, the confusing marketing talk, the ill-advised attempts and emerging lessons from NOSQL & beyond. Act 3: Building Our guests put on the ascott, dust off their snifters, grab a leather chair and join Tim for a fireside chat about what it means to use & build complex data systems today.
