For November #Action events, PDXWIT will be joining forces with Rose Haven to offer two unique opportunities to make an impact in local women's lives. Rose Haven is “a sanctuary from the street, offering compassion, practical assistance and community to women and children facing loss of home, abuse and other disruptive life experiences in Portland.” On Friday afternoons, Rose Haven offers computer lab hours to their members to provide those without computer and/or internet access the opportunity to have email correspondence, online job searches, online job applications, etc.
In November, PDXWIT #Action will help run two of these computer lab sessions as specific workshops. The goal of each November workshop is to help the Rose Haven members write personalized resumes and cover letters to use in future job applications. It will be a fun and engaging way to share knowledge and directly impact the lives of local women in need. Volunteers with all levels of prior hiring experience are encouraged to sign up to help with one or both of these events, but space is limited, so sign up today!
Event Breakdown:
November 3, 2017 - resume workshop. Please sign up before October 20, 2017.
After the signup deadlines, Melinda will be in touch through email to prepare the details for these events.
Agenda-
1:30 - Overview presentation and suggestions/sample templates
2:15 - 1 on 1 support
3:00 - Each Rose Haven attendee will emerge with their own personalized resume
Purpose:
PDXWIT is a community-based non-profit organization. Our purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources and opportunities. We are unifying a supportive environment for current and potential women in tech, all of whom are committed to helping each other. Our goal is to bring together and empower women in tech and to encourage others to pursue tech careers. This is our step towards reducing the gender imbalance in the industry and addressing the current negative effects of that imbalance on women.
Trans and non-binary people are always welcome at our events.
