We regularly ask engineers, consultants, software developers, financial analysists, managers, and others for estimates of duration and cost. Businesses make substantial decisions on those estimates, and can be alternatively delighted or disappointed by the results of those estimates. But do we ever take a step back to consider how we might improve the estimation process?
What you’ll learn
– Trust, accurate reporting, and math are prerequisites for good estimation
– How Monte Carlo simulations can produce reliable estimates for fixed deliverable packages
– Why historical estimation bias can help with new or difficult estimates
We will also have a live thirty-minute Q&A period after the presentation. If you have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, you can participate in two live lab exercises where we will work through a Monte Carlo simulation and the creation of a historical bias analysis calculator. This presentation isn’t available on iPhones or Android devices.
