description nil Co-sponsored by: IEEE Region 6 and Oregon Section <h2>Smart Grid Week September 8-10, 2010</h2><p> A set of three 1-day events about the Smart Grid organized by the Oregon Section.</p><p>The Smart Grid marries the electrical grid, an extremely complex system based on mature, conservative technology, with two fast moving innovative technologies, computers and communications. It is one of the greatest electrical, electronic and information processing challenges of our time and represents a significant engineering opportunity over the next two decades and beyond. It captures information about supply, system demand, individual usage, and pricing that fundamentally shifts how electricity is used. It enables the operators of the power system to increase efficiency and reliability while reducing costs and empowering consumers of electricity to minimize their own electricity costs. </p><ul><li><strong>The Workshop - Sept. 8.</strong> Sponsored by Region 6 and the Oregon Section. It will cover the Smart Grid as a system. “Smart grid” means many things to different audiences, we have brought together a distinguished set of thought leaders and subject matter experts who will present the architecture, operation and implementation of the Smart Grid, with a focus on the technologies and enabling standards that will make it work. It will be webcast to all of Region 6. See <a href="http://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/2801" target="_blank">http://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/2801</a> for full details and registration.</li><br /><li><strong>The Tutorials - Sept. 9 and 10.</strong> IEEE Oregon has partnered with TADA Training for two Smart Grid tutorials on wireless technologies for Smart Grid and Smart Grid metering. These workshops are targeted for the embedded systems engineer (hardware and/or software) and managers at the Intermediate / Advanced level. <strong>Prerequisites: </strong>knowledge of embedded systems concepts and development, including rudimentary C language coding. Each runs from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM (Pacific Time), at ITT Technical Institute, on Cascades Parkway in Portland. <strong>Special Smart Grid Week IEEE member rate: $249.00.</strong> For full details and registration, go to <a href="http://www.tadatraining.com/smartgrid" target="_blank">http://www.tadatraining.com/smartgrid</a>.</li></ul><br /><p>&nbsp;</p> Agenda: Smart Grid Week Schedule<br /> <table border="0" align="center"><tbody><tr><td><strong> Date</strong><br /></td><td><strong>Event</strong><br /></td></tr><tr><td>Wednesday Sept. 8</td><td> <a href="http://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/2801" target="_blank">IEEE Smart Grid Workshop: From Appliance to Generator and Back</a> <br /></td></tr><tr><td>Thursday Sept. 9</td><td> Tutorial - "<a href="http://www.tadatraining.com/smartgrid" target="_blank">ZigBee Wireless and Smart Grid</a>", TADA Training<br /></td></tr><tr><td>Friday Sept. 10</td><td> Tutorial - "<a href="http://www.tadatraining.com/smartgrid" target="_blank">Metering Design for Embedded Systems</a>", TADA Training</td></tr></tbody></table> Location: Portland
