update Calagator::Event 1250468966 Dynamics of Status, Rank, Power, Esteem: A workshop exploring collaboration and leadership Roll back

description We’re thrilled to announce a groundbreaking new training in status and leadership coming to Portland! Come for a 1-day intro to this work, or stay for 2 days and explore how the model translates to cooperative teamwork Day 1 - Interactive Dynamics of Power, Status, Rank and Esteem Everyone experiences the dynamics of power and status. But we’re often unaware of the underlying forces at play. These forces operate simultaneously, persistently and often unconsciously, in all our social interactions. In this unique workshop, expert facilitators Simo Routarinne and Barbara Tint will present a new framework for understanding the complexities of status and power dynamics. After introducting the framework, Simo and Barbara will lead participants in fun and engaging exercises that deliver a direct experience of these dynamics. Ample post-activity debrief and reflection time will be provided, to deepen participants’ insights surrounding the activities and concepts. Simo and Barbara’s teaching style guarantees laughter and surprise, while developing fabulous insights and practical applications. Participants will walk away with greater awareness and new skills in navigating the tricky terrain of power dynamics in all aspects of your personal and professional life. Come join us to: • Recognize different forms of power, both visible and invisible • Learn about the interplay of power dynamics with gender, culture and class • Explore the difference between intentional and unintentional influence • Learn about your natural status patterns and your default comfort zones • Narrow the gap between your intentions and their impact • Increase your range of flexibility in these processes • Build awareness, authenticity and empathy in communication • Maximize your agency and efficacy in making constructive change Day 2: Navigating Power Dynamics in Professional Situations Day 2 builds upon the theory and concepts of Day 1, applying them to the domain of collaboration in the workplace. When boundaries are blurred and projects are complex, teamwork can present unique challenges. This is true for project leads, product managers, business or creative consultants. Agile teams are a great example – each individual is expected to solve complex problems, effect change, and resolve conflicts together, in a context that (by definition) is emergent, chaotic and volatile. This workshop will help strengthen your skills in building relationships and influencing others, even where there doesn’t appear to be common ground. As in Day 1, Simo and Barbara will lead experiential exercises, this time drawing from participants’ real-world scenarios and challenges for inspiration. Debriefs will refocus on more practical and professional applications of the model. Navigating Power Dynamics will give you new knowledge and tools to be a more effective facilitator and leader, regardless of your organizational position. Participants will walk away with greater awareness and helpful strategies for increased collaboration, creativity and productivity. Join us and you’ll: • Explore the ways status and power dynamics affect team dynamics in the workplace • Understand how communication in organizations is affected by status behavior and use of power • Learn intervention techniques that can increase productivity in ambiguous environments • Cultivate organic and fluid leadership in the absence of rank and role • Improve individual and group performance in complex, volatile and chaotic environments • Facilitate more effective cooperation across organizational hierarchies and silos Although this work can be profound, Simo and Barbara always keep things playful, entertaining and fun. At Statusworks, we believe that learning happens best when participants are relaxed, present, and engaged. We look forward to working, learning and playing with you!
